Season over. 4 games in 14 days. Playing this Monday has screwed us. On top of not having our bye in the first block.

No club has it worse

Of course Richmond have a pretty good run. 6 day break between Round 9 and 10, then a 4 day break before Round 11, and a 9 day break before Round 12.

I guess they need extra time to recover though after their only travel during that period - from Queensland to play Port in Adelaide.

The Gabba could be an absolute cow's paddock by the end of that stint. They have 10 games on the ground in 20 days. Get a few days of heavy rain in amongst that and it could possibly be unplayable by the 3rd week.

Jesus. West Coast in Perth on Saturday and then North in Brisbane on Wednesday, Monday against ST K and then Friday against Port. 4 games in 15 days?

That's a tough fixture and you guys got screwed by the AFL.

It's actually 5 in 20 if you count the Freo game next Monday night.

We will get a bye in rounds 13-16 which will be another 4 games in 3 weeks, but for us 3 games in 3 weeks. Then rounds 17 and 18 will be like the normal setup Thursday (or Friday) to Sunday.

edit: So essentially our last 5 games of the season, we will average 1 game per week which is good prep going into finals....

It’s a joke. They also play the Suns at the Gabba and the Lions at Metricon!!. What happened to the time old arguement that AFL games MUST be played where the most fans can see it. I mean it’s “in the same state like that hour up the road I’ve been told”

4 day break after travel. That's harsh.

This is ultimately what the point of the shortened quarters was, though, and it's why we now need to maximise the list. Kids will have to get chances because there will need to be frequent rotation of players to avoid injuries. You'd assume everyone fit and ready will get a go at some point.

4 games in 14 days and looks like 17 other clubs are in similar boats. Kids will get their chances all over the comp

Crazy.

The upside is (unless the MC is determined to play the preferred 22 into dangerous exhaustion) kids will definitely play. Goes without saying they should aim to rotate 1 or 2 at a time (rather than going ‘nuclear’ 3 or 4 plus) perhaps with some veteran returning from injury. Scratch matches won’t be needed!

Aside from exhaustion for the squad, I think the big stress point is Ruck. If Stanley is not fully fit, it is a huge ask for Fort, even with help from Sav and Blitz. Imagine they’ll have to rotate Sav and Fort and bring in Kreuger or JJ (if fit).

Even though the senior squad is exceptionally fit, it is going to be huge ask to win more than a game or two in that time.

Of course there is a reasonable chance that an outbreak could occur in one of the squads or even QLD that would scarper the season.

Hah. The mention of JJ just made me go "Jarmaine Jones? Jarrad Jansen? Ohhhh Josh Jenkins!"

We've had a few JJs on the list recently!

They are both Richmond home games, so playing them at a venue that isn't the oppositions home ground makes some sense. And they do get to travel to SA for their match against Port
As for maximising crowds - not sure that's really relevant this year, even in a state like Qld that is permitting fans, are they permitting full crowds or still reduced capacity?
