Review Winners and Losers of the 2020 Trade Period

Papley is not going back to a club where he has to be played out of position, he was Sydney's primary small forward, it was personal issues that were seemingly resolved since.

Comparison is stupid and irrelevant.
One (papley) was for reasons to be in Victoria as he did mention.
Two was Dunkley that was offered heaps more money and to revive his brothers career. Time will tell that you are wrong big time.

He wasn't offered all that big a deal in the end, certainly not the $900k Zac Williams or Treloar type money.

It's pretty clear that Dunkley is unlikely ever to be the main man in the Bulldogs midfield, whereas playing on-ball at Essendon means he's (in my opinion at least) likely to be a chance of a Brownlow and some AA selections.

Opportunity to play as the #1 clearance player would be pretty appealing, it doesn't need to be a godfather offer.

To decide the win or loss, what were Essendon's holes before trade week and what are they after ?

Hawks desperately needed a key back to replace Frawley and a wing to replace Henderson and Smith.

We could also use a key forward unless Clarko thinks Mitch Lewis steps up this year.

We covered the first 2 for nothing. The 3rd is the unknown. But Im very happy.
Before Daniher, Saad and Fantasia left: At least two inside mids to balance the midfield, a KPF to support Draper and replace McKernan, a HB to replace McKenna, a quality winger and a KPD to replace Hooker who will probably retire next year.

After trade period:
Inside mid (we got Caldwell to fill the other slot), a KPF to replace Daniher (we also acquired Wright to support Draper), quality winger, a HB to replace McKenna (we acquired Hind to replace Saad in the interim) and a KPD to replace Hooker.

With 6, 7 and 8, we can split pick 8 and change with Collingwood for 16 and a future first. We can draft an inside mid with 16, a KPF (by packaging 6 and 7 for pick 2 to select Logan McDonald) and a HB (relatively easy to draft). We have two KPPs as NGAs. Eyre is probably the more highly rated NGA for us as a KPF. Brand is a KPD.

We can basically fill all of our holes (including replacing Daniher) while keeping our future first and Collingwood's future first. If we traded for Dunkley with Bulldogs' asking price, we'd have a complete midfield, but we'd likely be unable to select Logan McDonald or fill the rest of the holes.

Also, next year, these are the free agents/OOC players:
- Oliver
- Angus Brayshaw
- Josh Kelly (FA)
- Bont (FA)
- Tom Green (will be the best inside mid in a few years)
- McCluggage

With Hooker retiring, we'd have huge salary cap space + two 2021 draft picks to use to either bring a player in or use in a strong draft.

Wouldnt the Roos be desperate for a KPF to replace Brown?

Not sure they would want to lose pick 2 ?

Not for 6 & 7 anyway (in reality 8 & 9, possibly even 8 & 10)

I love the assumption that this is just going to happen from Essendon supporters.

The rumoured GC offer is going to trump theirs im afraid.

5 >>>>> 6 this year.

We aren't going to trade a Logan McDonald/Elijah Hollands for Tanner Bruhn and Archie Perkins.

We will trade them for a Will Phillips/DGB, a swag of second rounders, as well as GC's 2021 R1 pick though.

Not even sure, we dumped Mason Wood alongside Brown. Larkey is already a household name, Xerri who's proven to be decent in the games he's played IMO alongside Charlie Comben who is very athletic and is rated very highly internally but couldn't play a game this year due to injuries.

I can see them trading down because they're heading for a full scale rebuild.

It's not a given. We'd have to offer something compelling for North to let go of pick 2. It would have been much easier if Adelaide received pick 2 compo for Crouch. Didn't happen unfortunately.

I doubt Gold Coast would give that much for a 3 pick upgrade. I don't see who they'd want that isn't available at pick 5.

Elijah Hollands or McDonald won't get to #5.

They are the 2 they want.

They can afford to give up that much because they only need to use 1 pick this year.

It's only really #5 and the 2021 R1. The second rounds are fairly inconsequential to them this year.

Which isn't to dissimilar to GWS' trade last year for a 2 pick upgrade. They traded pick 6 & 9 in the end to Adelaide for pick 4 to get Ash.

The deal already done . Worst case scenario North change their mind , GCS happy to keep next year 1st round.

Yep, this is the rumour atm.

Source?

Was it a reasonable trade or a Dodo trade?
Channel 7. It was a reasonable trade. Ned Guy put the trade together.

Dogs would have had Treloar, Pick 26 & 33 for JUH points + Collingwood's future first and Essendon's future 3rd, which could have easily been upgraded to our future second if Bulldogs were listening to offers.
Dogs flat out refused to trade in a 3-way, meaning Collingwood had no other option but to get smashed in the Treloar trade and Essendon couldn't trade for Dunkley without giving up an unreasonable amount.

Dogs can do what they like of course. We don't have to cave to their demands though.

The Dogs ended up getting Treloar for an effective second rounder. Was the smart move to go for your future first over Collingwood’s.

GC have two first rounders next year, is it their compo pick or the one based on ladder position

They can't trade the end of R1 PP, it's been locked by the AFL for trading until further assessment next season.

It's their ladder position one.

in fairness, GWS had just lost the Grand Final and it was a very lucky thing for Adelaide that GWS imploded somewhat this year and finished outside the top 8. It could also easily have been 4 for 6 + pick 16-18 (2020)

Pick 2 for Pick 5,27,37,2021 R1.
GC wouldn't want anything outside the top 10 due to their concessions of just adding academy players and they already have 50 on the list, so picks 27 and 37 are of no value to them.

So from GC perspective, it's pick 5, 2021/1 -> 2

Good deal for North, and I think GC would be looking to trade the draft picks and make a play for a FA or established players anyway.
