Firstly well done to Carlton, no denying they are the real deal in 2022.

I was happy with the fightback and it’s frustrating because their is so much promise. Maybe it’s just a year too soon?

Umpiring across the board has been so inconsistent. I’ve been saying for weeks we need to protect players heads regardless of the intent. Far too many swans players caught high and no frees paid. With other decisions such as holding the ball and holding the man their is far too much inconsistency and it’s 50/50 whether or not a free kick is paid most of the time.

Umpiring was not the reason we lost tonight though. We need to stop these significant momentum shifts where teams are kicking five plus goals in a row against us.

Finally best game so far from Logan McDonald. Thought he he needed a few games in the VFL but done more than enough tonight to keep his spot.

Hopefully we respond against the Tigers!

Tell you what tho Stephens must be thinking they keep selecting Bell ahead of me why am i still here.

James Bell has played more games than Chad Warner

papley could rotate mid a bit with ronke back in
giphy.webp

Rough night with the umpires, but I thought we had a decent run against Hawthorn.
I was out and couldn't watch the Hawks game with volume on, so naturally I thought we got reamed then too :p

Don't think I've seen our defence drop more marks and be more out of position than the 2nd quarter. We desperately need a smaller lockdown defender for an opposition forward line like Carlton's.
I think it was this, more than anything else, that cost us the game.

We rely so heavily on our key backs marking and T Mc had a mare.

I’ll forgive him.

If I am Stephens watching in the corporate box, whats the point of not being allowed to ride through the highs and lows as a young player?

He was great against Geelong, who are declining but are still top 8. That Bulldogs game was weird all round and he wasnt great but so were the others. Then gets dropped.

If the same standards apply, Bell and Wicks are gone. Lloyd very lucky to survive 2 weeks against Gold Coast and Brisbane.

They only had two number 1 draft picks tonight. We had 1, a delisted one at that.

he will still had plenty of top 10 picks out there

not sure that matters
we must rate them to pay them

Only thing I can think is that Bell is being rewarded for effort. Yes, he gets smashed in the contest, yes when he does get his hands on the footy he panics, but you can't say he doesn't try his guts out.

The knock on Stephens is that there were times last year when he'd simply disappear on the wing for 2 quarters and you'd forget he was out there.

In saying that, I though he was significantly improved early this year and stiff to be dropped. Even stiffer not to get a crack this week.

Pretty much whenever the ball is in our defence you can see a score coming in the next play or 2.

Ball hits the ground we are in huge trouble back there.

yep had more good than bad games that’s for sure

That was the most dubious umpiring I have ever seen in my life. I’m lost for words after that really. We had all the chances to win in that last quarter but the decisions and non decisions over the course of the game were mind boggling. I am seething.
If the club don't stand up for themselves and call this shit out they can GAGF. That's it for me. Will not watch AFL anymore. Blatant *ing cheating. Number 23 whoever the * he is should be ashamed of himself. Calling holding the ball against us in their forward half and non calling it in ours. ****ing disgraceful.

In close losses thing like this stick out to me:
  • Bombing the ball on Buddy's head - particularly when logan was looking good tonight.
  • Still too easy to score against - This is both a defence and mid issue imo. Need a true lockdown small/med defender. If I was laidler I would be whispering in Sheather's ear that there is a spot for him in the 1s if he can string together a couple more consistent performances. Along with a lockdown, would love to uncover a marking third tall (rampe replacement)
  • Lacking a big body in the midfield stares out window Miss you George...
  • We are just generally a very frustrating side. Would back our best quarter of a game against one but unfortuantely we can very rarely deliver for more than 2-3 quarters.

Carlton’s smalls we’re exceptional which overemphasised the issue a little in my mind. Their forward pressure was elite tonight unfortunately

It was just completely fkd man there were probably about 50 htb and in the backs that were called or that weren’t there and all of them were against us it was the most disgraceful shit I’ve ever seen
