Gollant Thilthorpe McAdam
Rankine Fog Rachelle

That would have to be up there with one of our most exciting and athletic forward lines we've ever compiled and I'm deliberately leaving out Tex as he's not the future.
That RaFogRa forward line alone is drool worthy.

How much weight are we putting into Kim Dillon saying over last weekend, Rankine nearly pulled the plug? Sounds like the Gold Coast were paying violins to him and almost guilt tripping him.

Luckily it sounds like he has come to his senses.

As Dillon works with Rucci, 0.0%.

Will be absolutely filthy if we trade our first this year. Rankine is the cream, We don’t have the ******* cake yet.
I think we will trade out a player with a bit of value and bundle a couple of picks in the 20's for a late first. This is how I see it playing out unless we use a future first on Rankine with a future 2nd coming back to us. I don't see Horne going anywhere.

I think we gotta be realistic about this.. GC knows what he's worth... they gonna want something decent ... imho our first rounder is gone... it will only be a matter of what scraps we can get back....

So when is a Rankine trade request likely to come, if it happens? Next week?

If he is planning to walk he will move back to SA and announce a formal request to move probably a week or two to trade week. Doing it now is a long time out and not a lot of point. Both Gold Coast and Adelaide would be in negotiations now anyway.

We are being realistic. He is a player that has played half a season of decent games. He isn't Dawson who put together a couple of seasons of quality football. Pick 15-20 is more than enough for Rankine otherwise it's PSD.

It will take a top 10 pick, any thoughts of a late 1st round pick is footy fantasy thinking

Regardless of the situation, I’m not giving pick 4 or 5 for a small forward. I’d offer next years first or something else but not this years pick.
GC have to many advantages in my eyes, they have all of Northern Territory for free as well.
If they piss us off I’d say PSD, ask Rankine to put 1 million for one year and he comes to us.
Al Clarkson says thanks very much, I've got a truck load of salary cap space here at Norf and Rankine will be a nice addition to my forward line.

Dodoro is also waiting to pounce

PSD is not an option

Scenario 1: Future 2nd & Best 22 Player for Rankine.
Scenario 2: Future 1st for Rankine & Pick in 30's.
Scenario 3: Pick 5 & Future 1st for Rankine, Pick 7 & Pick in 30's.

I think Gold Coast would want a KPP in the Draft (Busslinger or Cadman) and/or Future picks. I expect they'll trade their picks 2nd Round and below for Future picks and/or for Brisbane's 1st Rounder. I think they'd also happily take experienced players that would improve their best 22.

Crows clearly want Rankine. They should be equally desperate for top end midfield potential, particularly big bodied midfield potential. Either their own pick 5 or Gold Coast's pick 7 in this years draft probably gives them a chance to tick this box.

It would be disappointing if we didn't land Rankine and also didn't have a top 10 pick in this years draft (unless we somehow get JHF).

Gold Coast value him at 650k a year, that's what they think he is worth.
However, I think our first pick is gone, and maybe then some.

If Rankine was on our list and out of contract, would we get offered a first rounder for him?

Absolutely not. He has failed to live up to expectations. Has a hand full of memorable games to his name in 4 years. Forget potential, he is what he is. He is not worth our first round pick. Pick 5 is way too high

Darcy Fogarty disagrees with the notion of you are what you are after 4 years. It's certainly not uncommon for a player to really accelerate in years 5 and 6.

Mind you, Rankine is worth a first round pick after his 2022 campaign. After all, 4 years in and in terms of goals created (i.e. goals + goals assists), Rankine was 8th out of general forwards this year with 47, with everything else being in a good place, production wise. Ours is probably a tad too high at 5, but pick 9-13 is probably bang on for value.

Heck, I don't even know if I'd be that fussed if we relented and got him for pick 5, seeing he looks on track to mould into a player who could change the entire complexion of a teams offense, ala what Betts did for us in the 2010s, and Cameron for Brisbane.

Not as uncommon as you think. For the non-Martins/Judds of the world, there seems to be two common paths for a pick 3 to reach the zenith. First is to break out year 3-4, slow down 1-2 years and then really cement themselves as A-grade players in years 5-6, seeing that's what path McLuggage and Brayshaw followed.

Mills would be someone who really cemented themselves with a breakout campaign in year 6 after being a solid player beforehand. An older example would Stephen Hill, though he only had 3 years of elite production. Ryan Griffen was another one, taking 5-6 years to really move on from being a solid footballer to a top line one.

That said, the risk any one of these stalls out into the Masten/Plowman/Billings tier of solid footballers, but not in that A-grade bottleneck. Mind you, it's no different of a risk to us drafting someone with pick 5. Just you'll get to find out where someone like Rankine fits in quicker.
