I'm glad you bought that up. Having someone like danger and Pendlebury in your side is worth it's weight in gold. Their knowledge of the game plan and ability to direct the others is invaluable. Unfortunately Carlton don't have such a figure, so they just don't understand the value. I have already tipped Geelong this week because danger is playing. We would not have won the flag without Pendlebury out there. It's been well documented

Cripps hasn't been around long enough yet. He hasn't had the finals experience of the other two. A great player but never tagged because clubs are happy for him to go about his business and concentrate more on the outside runners. I'm not saying that he won't become a spiritual leader but you really need heaps of finals experience before you can get to that level

Mate I'm sorry but if you think Cripps has never been tagged you do not watch Carlton. There is literally not a player that gets more attention around stoppage then Patrick Cripps in the AFL over the last 5+ years.

The reason tags sometimes go to Walsh is because Cripps is a brute and elite distributor. Very difficult to stop him doing that.

It's more about his lack of finals experience. Cripps doesn't really get tagged that much. It's a very well known thing right throughout the industry and there's nothing I could say that would change your mind. However, he's going to have to get quite a few grand finals and prelims before he reaches Dangerfield and Pendles

Durham literally played a negating role on Cripps in our last match. Cripps is never going to get a James Jordon come to him or a Toby Beford because look at them compared to Cripps. He's destroyed the likes of Green and Rowell this year so what chance do they have.

If you watch around stoppage there are multiple opposition players who focus completely on Cripps and not the ball. Pies did it multiple times in our last matchup. That's how dominant coaches know him to be around the ball.

Finals experience fair enough but to say he is not a spiritual leader just because of that is odd to me.

If you knew the behind the scenes dialogue about our flag last year. We don't win without Pendles. It was well documented in the media in the days following the win. It's when the real stuff starts that the experienced leaders come into their own. No criticism of Cripps because he's an absolute gun but he's going to need a lot more runs on the board in finals. You probably would have beaten Brisbane if your leaders had more experience. I'm not having a go but it's so important that we are offering Pendles another year. It's just hard to explain

Pendlebury is in the top four players I have seen since 2000 (Ablett, Buddy, Judd and then him) and I am on record saying that on BF. Have never said a bad word about him.

Today's football is all about how fast you move the ball and how well your role players can help with that . If you notice it's players like daicos, Neale and Butters that are starting to get the hard tags. Inside mids don't get as much attention because it's the outside, it's line breaking runners that win you the game. Inside mids can be negated by having an extra or two around the stoppages. Every side has its structures, so it's about how you can get through those structures in the fastest way so you can catch them out of structure. Collingwood play the riskiest game plan in the league. They do this because everyone knows their role and by going through the middle, it makes the opposition move their structures. Having experience like Pendles in finals allows our structures to always know where to go and what to do. That's a lot of structure talk

Sorry for posting this here but as it is an active thread I’m hoping to get a quick answer. Was there a HOF thread last night and where do I find it? I’ve looked but can’t find anything.

Who is Patrick Cripps to you?
He's Carltons best leader. He's a pack beast, and rises to the occasion even injured.

Carltons relative lack of leadership means if you smash or at least slow down Cripps when the game is on the line the rest often fail to lift. Hence the targeting he repeatedly gets.

There are no one man teams, but teams have profiles with strengths and weaknesses. Cripps is as big a piece as any in the game for this reason: because Carlton have lacked leaders aside from him (I see Saad giving good direction and shape, and is de Koning showing a little?) and until recently no one else to smash packs effectively.

I'd say he's more important to Carlton than Daicos is to us, as we have similar players to cover: not as good but we proved it last year, winning 2 massive finals without him.

Darcy Moore is our unreplaceable piece for his high marking and great defence. We luckily have good and varied leaders, but the high mark and spoil we can't easily replace.

Think just on individual club forums - like Hawks have one about Dunstall's induction. Didn't see a general one on the main board

I think this was a major issue in the past but when you look across the field now we have leaders on pretty much every line - we are obviously a more inexperienced team compared to a Pies so expect that to continue to grow. Weitering/Newman/Saad/Acres/Walsh/Cripps are especially good in this area.

The said players are the reason you are second. These types of players are the most important in any side

I’m a little blown away how little Dirty Bird fans know about our team, leaders & plain old reality.

“Carlton has lacked leaders aside from him”.

“When the game is on the line the rest fail to lift”.

Ignorant 💩

Pies played Pendlebury on him if I remember correctly. Worked well. Carlton struggled.
