Do we expect those 4 to tackle though? Hawks plan isnt about tackling from the midfield. Its more around defensive pressure on the kicker to cause a turnover so they can slingshot it the other way. In that midfield its very much about pressuring the ball carrier not tacklingNed Long 11 tackles
Newcombe, Worpel, Nash, Ward 13 tackles.
The place they need to tackle is 100% in the forward line and thats where the lack of defensive pressure is truly hurting. In a slingshot style game plan you ideally want to trap the ball up forward if it doesnt come off. At present if it doesnt come off the opposition just walk it out and Hawthorns half back line are caught out somewhat.
Next off season I think Hawks hit the trade market again because thats where they are heading and look to go for a clearance midfielder to be a backup to Will Day/replacement for Connor Nash. Wouldnt shock me if that is Marcus Windhager as someone is in his ear about a midfield role. Id also expect them to target a defensive half forward of some sort too as basically your replacement for Blake Hardwick who shouldnt be doing that role to begin with (maybe Sam Switkowski on a cheap deal? )
Either way this is the path they have chosen so best to keep going down it. Given the depth they have at present in the VFL its probably worth going with
