If we cant combat coaching tactics that shut down our Plan A now, under finals intensity i truly feel we will be exposed. Well Nicks will be.

Three weeks ago I marked this game down as a loss. I also had the Sydney and Brisbane games as 50/50 and we won both of those.

Had we won this game most would have locked us in for a top four spot, so that's how thin the margins are. We lack the ruthlessness, the killer instinct, the belief that great sides have. Whether that's going to come with more experience or whether it needs a new coach, time will tell.

Pretty soft draw on the way home but the home games against Hawthorn and Collingwood are crucial. Pinch one or both of them and top 4 is almost certain

Scenarios from now onwards, if we win the "easier" games:

4th if we beat Hawks at AO, lose to Pies and Dogs.

6th if we lose to Hawks, Pies, Dogs (most likely IMO).

3rd if we beat Pies and Hawks at AO, lose to Dogs. (Unlikely).

Top 2 is gone now. If we drop one of the "easier" games like a Showdown or Suns, we're looking at 7th or 8th.

The easiest part of our season is to come but losing to Hawthorn tonight may well have cost us the all important Top 2. Not that we were box seat but if we had a chance we needed to get this one.

Geelong have top 2 in the bag, it was never an option. They have an incredibly easy draw.

How can you not make finals with games against the bottom 3 (all away) to come plus our home games (we have lost one all season)?

If we don’t make finals from here, Nicks ain’t getting any contract extension at all in 2026. You don’t go from 9-4 with a % of 137 to miss the 8. That would be unprecedented.

Yes, they have the toughest draw with away games to Geelong/Collingwood/Freo and home games against Bulldogs/Hawks. It means 3rd and 4th are open so both us and Bulldogs can snag.

I think we will get there. But the real pressure will be in the finals.

5th or 6th, if it is a home EF vs Hawthorn or GWS we'll be probably one and done but should beat a side like the Bulldogs, Carlton, Fremantle, Gold Coast (at AO) etc.

Then the true test is the away games. I think Collingwood finish top (should win all remaining games going into the finals I think) and will go straight through to a prelim. But an away semi vs Brisbane at the Gabba will be difficult.

4th place and an away QF vs the Pies, we'll go in with belief but will probably fall short.

Now have reigning premiers Lions missing finals by half a game to both Freo & Hawks.

Blues in 10th, missing by 2 games... so still think it's a race in 9.
