The scoreline flattered us in the end. Our slow midfielders were exposed once again by a team with genuine quality. With kids and veterans nearing the end of their careers, we were always going to fall away at this time of year.

You guys do know next year’s not gonna be much better, right?

It's more than that. It's the fumbles, missed tackles, unaccountable running. Games gone straight past them.

I was at the game and there were definitely some glaring issues outside of Bellerive running out of food at half time….

Overall, it was clearly evident their midfield was working harder and they were faster. I’m not talking just the 3 in the centre but every single player running across the middle of the ground. Watching live it seemed like they had more players on the ground.

Defence also looked out of sorts once Vlastuin went out, especially in the second half. Supply was excessive so I won’t be too harsh but we definitely lost contests to lesser players that we shouldn’t have lost. On a side note, the club should be asking for a please explain for the tactics of #37 up forward and not being picked up by the umps. Multiple times he was facing Miller (maybe others) and pushing/holding them to allow their opponent get space for a marking contest. It was bullshit and something that would’ve been sorted out in the old days with a stretcher.

As for our players…

Sonsie - easy one delist. Outside of being completely useless defensively, he killed us at least a couple of times with low cute kicks on the wing.

Green - really don’t understand why he has contract for next year. He was useless when he came on other than his chase down.

Young - I thought was really bad. Multiple times didn’t contest the mark when he should’ve and we gave up marks I50 to North spuds as a result. Broad also struggled with Curtis, would love Curtis in our forward line.

The numbers for Trezise and McIntosh didn’t really highlight their lack of influence on the game. Trezise’s lack of pace is a big issue on the wing.

Midfield of Hopper, Taranto, Ross, Prestia and Nank was absolutely exposed for a lack of pace. I don’t know why we didn’t try something different like play Balta as ruck rover. Felt like he was one of the few that could have got the game on our terms but he just wasn’t around the ball enough. I can’t possibly see how we play a midfield with those 4 and Nank next year.

There weren’t a lot of positives. Lynch looked alright except his goalkicking. Hotton again a shining light for the future. There is serious hope for MRJ if he can improve to a level where he finds it 15+ times a game. We should run him midfield all summer.

Mansel might not have the best skills but look at the way attacks the ball week in week out. Seth never does that.

ahhhh the "Old Chestnut" give seth rhyans attack on the ball or give mansell seth silk and you have both @850k a year players.... dosent happen very often these guys were taken as late picks and im glad we have them and you would think both will get better at some of their weaknesses.

I realise people say we need hopper and Taranto and Prestia to protect the young players but surely there are state league players that would perform better. These guys have all the traits you do not want in a midfield.
I wouldn’t mind us changing their roles or trading them because IT DOES NOT WORK !
