Not sure how you've come to the conclusion that was having a whine, I was having a laugh, like I said you do you
You weren’t whining about the chant at all.

The Eagles supporters have been doing the Eeeeeeeeglessssss chant and Mexican wave at games for many many years, I remember it when we were going to games at Subi 16- 17 years ago.

Not lately tho

Form 8th id would have to think so. In 2015 Hawthorn travelled to Perth twice for finals and won the flag.

But the closest is Bulldogs from 7th in 2016 with finals in Perth and Sydney.

I'm not saying this to downplay the achievement because it would be huge and on paper 8th to Premiers would be remarkable but given how tight the season was Hawthorn arent the typical 8th placed team. Much like Adelaide werent the best team in the comp (clearly) just because they finished top.

Hawks 8th was a game and a percent outside the top 4 and 2 games from top 2.

Not sure they are the 'rank outsider' many would consider most 8th placed teams to be.

But still, winning away twice to even make prelims is a great effort and given the teams you'd have to beat to win the flag from here you couldn't deny the achievement

The Crows lost the QF by 10 goals to Melbourne. Under this system, they would have been knocked out in week 1. TBH, its line ball with the Dogs in 2016. Who defeated both GF teams from 2015, GWS away and the Swans in the GF. Hawthorn now get de facto home games for the rest of their series.

You just can’t compare across finals systems. Unfair to say that the Crows would have been knocked out, as they also would’ve been playing 8th placed Essendon, not 4th placed Melbourne.

Did Collingwood invent it? Many sides do it, Hawthorn, Eagles, Lions, Swans etc. Some don't really, Saints, Dogs, Blues etc. Wonder why some do and some don't.
Generally you have to be winning to start up a chant.

Glad I could help.

Hawthorn won 65% of their games in 2025.

The 8th placed team typically has to win 55% of their games. The Hawks are definitely a lot better than the average 8th placed side. The Crows record was comparable to any other minor premier team.

I think it just showed that we had 8 really good teams this year, and a lot of shit ones.

There’s now an overreaction to say that the Crows were never a good side this year which just isn’t true. We completely shit the bed in finals, but performed really well against all the top sides in the home and away season. Just an inexperienced team that wasn’t ready for finals. Hopefully we bounce back.

Didn't say Collingwood invented, just saying it doesn't match the volume and intensity of the Collingwood chant

Agreed. On the flip side, under that system Hawks beating Adelaide in round 1 would have led to Hawthorn hosting either the Pies or Giants at the MCG in week 2. That system was far easier for the 5-8 teams to light up a finals series.

Hawthorn like Collingwood has a huge advantage given they both play 10-14 games at the MCG every year.

Any premiership won with an unearnt home grand final immediately disqualifies it self from greatest of all time discussions

More support for doppleganger argument in the vic bias thread about Adelaide teams faltering in finals after finishing high on the ladder in home and away
25 years of data now

Travel is a red herring

Hawks travelled 12 times in 2025, Adelaide only 10.

Hawks were the better team, Adelaide only finished higher on the H&A ladder due to their easy fixture...13 games on their home ground, 11 of which against a team where they get a significant advantage.

Melbourne based teams get what 5 if they are lucky

Two fantastic finals wins by the Hawks.Away from home.
Outstanding ground level players.Keeps the football moving.
Geelongs a different beast to Gws and Adelaide. But have had an easy 6 weeks.Including the Lions last week.
No doubt the Hawks will hit them with the kitchen sink .Early in the Preliminary.
Hope Hardwick can get the GCS into a Preliminary final.
