Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GTWEB? Part 2

Rowell is the complete footballer, an inside/outside player who runs both ways. He wills himself to every contest and puts his body on the line at every contest. Well deserved Brownlow winner

Doesn't kick enough goals. He is certainly capable of it but this is what it takes to become the complete player, you have to go to another level where the best went. Bontempelli does it, Dangerfield does it, and so too did many champions before them.

It's similar to Neale, Cripps etc. They can't hit the scoreboard on a regular basis.

Daicos has illustrated an ability to get there. He booted 17 goals this year while getting tagged.

What is an 'FD' and what makes you say I 'think every one of them instruct their players to target Daicos?
“The most heavily tagged, targeted and planned for”

That planning and selecting roles for players comes from the Football Dept.
You said it happens to Nick more than any other player

Inside bull is getting ball, breaking tackles and getting the ball out of congestion using their phsysical power and strength. That is not Daicos.
Nick certainly isn't a bull, but you're stuck on your preconceptions and what their strengths are - when the thing that matters is the role they play and the reality that players can play roles in a variety of different often. Nick often plays the same inside role as Rowell or even Cripps - blokes who hunt the footy at stoppage and they're some of the best at it which is why they're guarded so closely. NIick and Rowell are probably the two quickest to get to the ball at the moment - Cripps isn't as quick but just so powerful. Rowell is the best around at stoppage at the moment because like Nick he gets to the ball so quicly, but he doesn't need to create space due to the power and crazy intent to get the ball and break tackles. However, Nick is still one of the best first possession stoppage players around and then can be deadly on the outside - his ball use this finals was ridiculously good.

Poor old bluebaggers. They never win games but they usually win something - Brownlows, Colemans, Spoons - this year the wheels have fallen off so badly that I don't think anyone will even win their best and fairest.

just go watch his games last year. There was a game he had 16 clearances and 27 contested possessions, and then he got bagged because Bont took over when he was off the ground rooted from carrying us singlehandedly and the Dogs won..

Its just why i laugh at you trolls. you will be going on with this garbage for the next 10 years. good luck with him being in your head for all that time
Total delusion

Rowell is the total package and a more complete player than Daicos is at the moment, however that's not to say that can't change in the coming years
So Rowell can't improve his:
Vision
Ball use
Speed
Agility
Contested Marking

Or are there only specific players in the competition who are open to critique?

I'm tipping if both Rowell and Daicos were on the open market, I know who would be in greater demand...

Yes everyone can improve in certain areas and agree if Rowell & Daicos were on the open market you would most likely be taking Rowell

Doesn't surprise me that a Carlton supporter would have that opinion...

But I actually thought you stated Rowell was the 'total package'?

How can he be the 'Total Package', and yet still have so many areas of potential improvement?

FFS grow up, every player in every sport can always improve even if by a little bit.

Regarding the choice of the two, take your black & white glasses off just for once

Rowell, Sheezel, Darcy, NAS, Callaghan, Holmes anyone else who has played some good games. All fine choices of the captain of the "Better than Nick according to this thread" team.

Funny because no one has really mentioned Rowell before in this thread, a few dodgy BOGs and all of a sudden he's the third Gary Ablett 😆

A bit of selective memory.

Nick started that game brilliantly and the Pies established a big 1st quarter lead.

Bont then went to him after quarter time and changed the game like one of the greats is expected to do.

When you are talking of Nick Daicos playing as a midfield bull you just aren't watching or have a vastly different view of what constitutes a midfield bull.

I wouldn't even class Bont a midfield bull although he is much more of that than Nick will ever be.

Rowell is the midfield bull in and under and getting it out. Libba is that at the Bulldogs and Newcombe can be that at the Hawks.

A clearance is simply first disposal from a stoppage and Nick does get plenty of clearances. It does not require him to be in and under and it would detract from his ability on the outside if he was playing that role.

I think they’re very different players and I dont think he plays the same role as Rowell.
I do think Collingwood now and have for this seaso. build their midfield structure around him getting some clearances and outside ball.

You lost one midfielder and it all fell apart.

'It all fell apart'...

Yet we were a dodgy unpaid free kick from being 6 points down with 10 minutes to go in a Preliminary Final.

In the prelim losing Pendles sucked and it also meant we couldn't sub out Mason Cox. JDG copped a bump and was awful after that. But a big factor in the second hald of the year was teams stopped the full on tag on Nick at stoppage. When they were playing a full on tagger we had control of positioning and it helped make Long and Sidey effective - once they stopped tagging him those two struggled at stoppages - and we got beaten on the inside most weeks. We really need a fit and firing JDG to be copetitive in there - unless Long makes a heap of progress.

my selective memory says that both 16 clearances and 27 contested possessions are both in the top 10 clearances and contested possessions in any game in history. he did both in 1 game.

We lost a midfielder what 2min into the game, and we're going ok until the Lions got rolling in the 3rd quarter...and as others have mentioned DeGoey and Long were poor compared to the QF, cant cover 2 mids having stinkers (and losing Pendles) in a PF.

Would be like the Tigers losing Cotch early, and then Prestia and Grigg both having shockers...

But again not really relevant to a Naicos topic, it seems Rowell is the new fav for the Naicos haters, funny that the Suns with Rowell were absolutely brained at stoppages by the Lions in the SF...

Your coach in his presser said he didn’t think it would have mattered.
That Brisbane would have won.
