Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GTWEB? Part 2

Have to say, said in here a few months ago I was shocked Nick Daicos had gone to Brownlow favouritism, just couldn’t see it with some of the tags limiting him.

A lot of money lost yesterday !
Yeah. Bookies all over Aus having a long lunch today. Cleaned up.

Cripps to Rowell, inside bull to inside bull

I’m convinced Nick Daicos will win a Brownlow, but maybe later in his career, right now inside mids are indeed just polling through the roof.

I like the Brownlow. If you look at who have been getting higher votes in the Brownlow than other awards in recent years - Neale, Daicos, Cripps and now Rowell - it's the players whose contests the umpires have to watch the closest as they're the ones who get the most scragged around stoppage. I think it inadvertently factors in that it's harder for these guys to impact because they cop the most defensive attention and that all the defensive attention they draw is a positive contribution to the team that goes beyond their direct involvements. It's no coincidence that once the scragging tags on Daicos loosened this year the form of the rest of our other mids fell through the floor and we became a lesser team - even though Nick's individual contribution from direct involvements rose.

Dick Reynolds had 3 Brownlows by the time he was 23. Close this thread.

~ 450 goals as a mid / forward. Certainly up there in discussions for GOAT.

KB kicked almost 800 goals. Tremendous record and won Cazaly's over Leigh Mathews back when the 2 of them were flying. And Leigh for mine is GOAT.

NDaicos has the fastest "to 100 votes" in the Brownlow. Nice achievement. Way to go to even be considered for discussion as GOAT.

Daicos is easily a top 10 player in the competition right now, but having an inside bull who wins his own ball like Rowell is so much more important to a team than a player who more relies on other players to give him the ball, even if he does have very good skills when he has the ball in hand (though sometimes he goes for a few too many cheap disposals for my liking, especially since he has the skills so he does not need to do that).
He played the inside bull position last year and got 38 votes.

I can't work out what's worse.

Collingwood having the dream start to the season, miles ahead in July, only to capitulate in the business end of the year.

or Daicos having the dream Brownlow run, literally no-one to take votes from him, yet he still wets the bed and can't get it done.

Embarrassing all round.
i think it may be Carlton being 40 points up against supposedly the worst team in the league and getting beaten in the 1st round

Nope.
Will be interesting how good he can be when Collingwood rebuild/trade their players which is what going to happen.
Cripps, Fyfe, Ablett all won Brownlows, AFL MVP when their teams sucked. Cant see the same happening with Daicos.
He was the only player who came into a side which finished 17th and finished 4th then premiers the next year lol

The fact he had such a great year despite being the most heavily tagged, targeted and planned for player does nothing but elevate his legacy.

And I'm sure is a big reason as to why his peers voted him the League's Most Valuable Player.

That's the thing....

We may never see Daicos in 'a team that sucks', because his mere presence ensures they are at least competitive.

I mean... 9th last year and turns in 1st, 2nd and 4th in the three major individual awards...

Did you know that Naicos is also #1 on Interpol, CIA, and ASIO lists? He could be the most targeted person in the history of the world. I also hear that PhD candidates are doing dissertations on how to stop Naicos and sending them out to coaches.

^^this is honestly how you sound

Sorry, just stating a simple fact.

Not my problem if you can't handle it.

He had a great year and he’s consistently your #1 player.

Sounds a little crazy you think every FD is instructing their players to target him.

Do you think some teams have been able to reduce his impact with a close tag?

Wines was no Bunton, let's put it that way. Still a 36 vote season.
Fothergill, Matthews and Ryan weren't either, which is the point.

They had 40+ vote seasons, when you extrapolate their vote totals to the 22-23 game seasons of today.
Look at the winners/top 5 totals in the early 2000s to 2010. The players now aren't twice as good, but on vote tallies, the best aren't that far off.
What does that have to do with Reynolds and Bunton?

Reynolds and Bunton are all time legends, and that is where Daicos is tracking.

Inside bull is getting ball, breaking tackles and getting the ball out of congestion using their phsysical power and strength. That is not Daicos.
just go watch his games last year. There was a game he had 16 clearances and 27 contested possessions, and then he got bagged because Bont took over when he was off the ground rooted from carrying us singlehandedly and the Dogs won..

Its just why i laugh at you trolls. you will be going on with this garbage for the next 10 years. good luck with him being in your head for all that time

How can he be GOAT when he can’t even win the brownlow medal ? The most prestigious medal in the land.

He is just a very good half back flanker
