Just realised the second rounder we got back is a 2027 pick. So we’re gonna have to death-ride Carlton for two seasons. Let’s hope they hang on to Voss.

Re rest of the trade period, I do take some pleasure in Geelong failing to land either of their men. Just now hope someone sneaks in and picks up Ah Chee in the PSD before the Crows can. (He’d be a fair replacement for Hayward!!)

It's the only option if you want Heeney to win us a flag

First round pick still needs a few years to really impact in general

Going backwards was not on the menu
One player will never win anyone a flag, it's always about the list, you need depth of talent in roles and depth of talent across the squad to account for injuries etc.

I'm not saying we don't have that. I just can't say that we do have that because most of the list haven't proven it yet.

There's a gigantic cohort of our list who in my opinion are either completely unproven, unreliable, or inexperienced.

McLean, Sheldrick, Campbell, Jordon, Dattoli, Andrew, Bowman, Rampe (at this stage), Bice, McInerney, Edwards, Hamling, Cleary, Roberts, Warner Jr., Hanily, Snell, Lloyd (at this stage), Green, Rosas Jnr., Serong, King, Carmichael, Chamberlain and Kyle form nearly half the list with little to no evidence that they can meaningfully contribute to a team in serious contention. Jordon & McInerney the best of that group, and even then, the former I wouldn't say meaningfully contributed to a flag tilt yet, and latter is still wildly disparate as a player.

So good and well to say we're all in because we have this great top end, and we've just added another player who will (presumably) be a top-ender in Curnow.

But all it is is a premiership-contending top end, not a premiership-contending list. Nervous times ahead and the more I think on this trade the more it makes me unsure if the club really have a grasp of where this list is actually at, or if they've done a West Coast with Tim Kelly and gone chips-in on the "now" when the "now" isn't really worthy of doing so.
Bit harsh on Jordon. I’d remove him and add Amartey.

I'm pretty happy. We said we would be aggressive and that there would be casualities. We were, and there were.

Compare this year to the last few years and we were chalk and cheese. I think we have improved and our roll of the dice was warranted. We have tried to throw in a circuit breaker to our GF losses and regardless if it works or not, we have tried.

We have a huge number of players coming off-contract in 2027, if the academy is looking really good that year we’ll have plenty of options to get more picks.

More so due to the new CBA for players coming out more than anything.

But you want to improve the list by adding quality to what you have on list.

Either way. Not a fan of the trade for Curnow.

Definition of high-risk, high-reward this trade period.

Overall I can see why some would be concerned. I think I would've preferred not to lose Hayward, and certainly not having any first rounders (barring Academy guys) until at least 2028 (unless someone leaves) is an issue. But really, our list is built for the now. As it was standing, the list was probably good enough to finish high but had too many holes to win flags. Our signings don't entirely patch our holes, but theyy certainly help.

All this flag talk expectation and blaming CC trade if we don’t get it.

Cmon, we finished 10th ! And look at the Lions for goodness sake. Let’s not blame a new recruit for lack of a flag, that’s on the 2024 crew and the coach.

If we move up and make finals to at least have a shot with CC being a strong contributor that’s pretty good. CC in and no flag = blame trade is cray cray wacky funster logic, there’s another 22 players that need to step up as well to get a flag.

Disagree with this.

Club have made a fairly big statement. They expect this team to win the flag in next few. CC is supposedly the answer and to go in with three firsts and one of the few successful firsts we have drafted over the 10 years is big and ballsy to say the least.

It limits our ability to get players in either trade, draft or FA and could blow up pretty spectacularly especially with intro of Tassie.

If we do not get a flag in the next three years it is a fail.

Probs unfair to have Jmac and Jordon on this list. Would have to say they are proven and solid AFL citizens.

The rest have it all in front of them, I am excited to see Bice, Cleary, Campbell, Rosas, Serong, Dattoli and Green after another pre season. There is a lot of upside.

Rampe and Lloyd will hopefully be used more sparingly but I am sure will be solid when called upon.

Glass half full rather than empty and we have upgraded our forward line.

Just hoping for a clear run at it with injury.

Curnow is no Jeremy Cameron.
But he better start watching some highlighlights of Jeremy.
Otherwise we a farked for years. Heard they also extended his years to 5.
Farked for 5 years.

Wonderful watching an almost good FF FFFFFark our side for FFFFFive years.

Just Wonderful.

We got by far the best key forward gettable during this trade period who instantly gives us the focal point of attack we've been crying out for. How anyone cannot be happy about this trade is beyond me.
Had to go for a walk. That's a disgusting overpay.
3 1sts, Hayward and Florent is us getting reamed for Charlie and some junk picks.

What a disaster of a trade. Nothing short of a premiership or two will make this worth it

Absolutely atrocious
Like opposing magnets

God I wish people would stop saying this (even in jest).

How about we bring in recruiters to actually address the issue.
For too long our recruiting/list management has been rubbish, no sign it's changing.

For example if we pick Shanahan in last year's draft and see his development in 2025 would we be giving up Hayward and 3 Firsts for Curnow (and later picks)?

We have mortgaged our future on a 29 KPD with a long well paid contract.

Massive mistake IMO.
It feels a bit defeatist. Like ah well we have stuffed up nine times out of ten, so why bother on the tenth go?

The only way to guarantee we never reverse our first-round record is to give up on first round picks altogether.

That said, I do believe now days more than ever that you can find great players literally anywhere in the draft. It's not so much about the players that can be found in the first round, but more so the preference of being able to get the player you really want. ie. the Connor O'Sullivan situation a few years ago.

I wanted to like your post. How can I like it when I like it AND hate it at the same time.

This is bullshit.

I get you're disappointed, but this is a ridiculous take. Curnow is a star.

Not when we get 3 first rounders for Warner in a couple of years time.

West coast going to be splashing 2 mil

He's not Jeremy Cameron but he's pretty bloody good and never played in a top end side

Could be rare air for Charlie if he grabs it

And not a midfielder traded in when Oliver and Petracca were up for grabs
IF they had made themselves known to be available before we recruited Goodwin maybe things would have been different. But as soon as we got Goodwin they were never coming us, that was obvious to a blind man given the bad blood at the Dees.
