Question, may of already been answered, have we got enough draft points to pick up our academy kids?
I think so if they fall a bit later/to the rookie draft

Because Tim Kelly didn't add anything to help with the Eagles problems and Cameron did help with issues the Cats were having

Our biggest issue (midfield) wasn't addressed this off-season. Our second issue was (KPD)
Subjective though, my opinion (and the list management team’s as well) is that our midfield is already good enough and we needed to improve the forward line and backline.

And that's fair. Time will tell and I do hope I am wrong. It is just with every big loss we have, it tends to be a midfield collapse that caused it

Mills moving back there will help the midfield

We may take a KPD as a rookie or something but we did take a few over the last few seasons. Time to give Snell etc a go

So many different opinions so here’s my take.
Great we got Charlie but concerned of what we gave away to get him but if you are targeting a key forward who has won Coleman medals and is contracted then you have to pay big- and we have.
On the flip side CC will take the best defender, this is an opportunity for Amartey & McDonald to stand up too. If the midfield can get on top and deliver the ball down forward it’s gonna be good to watch.
Rosas is a handy pickup, won’t replace Hayward different type but could be good around goals. Serong could be anything but the fact is the most senior games he has played in a season is 5 and coming from the VFL is a step up. He can play but let’s not expect too much of him at first but he might surprise.
I am not too fussed about draft picks because let’s face it, it’s a lottery. As long as we can bring some Academy kids in.
Overall it’s a massive gamble the club has made but I guess we have to place our faith in the recruiting team and the coach, they are far more across what is happening or the machinations than we are.
One thing I will say it’s not only players contracts that can be broken. Now we supposedly got the big fish we wanted and the playing list is still very good nothing less than an improvement on last season i.e finals pref top 4 and certainly aim for a GF on the next couple of years. If we go backwards there could be a cleanout and it won’t necessarily be players. Cox will have his contract torn up.
Provided we don’t just bomb it to Charlie, like we did with Buddy.
Now it is up to the forwards coach to sort the patterns, and for the mids to scan.

Should be relatively fine in the end GCS and Brisbane have multiple picks before us that will get swallowed by bids, Essendon as well potentially if Dovaston goes early might push their club tied small forwards up the board meaning our picks go further up. Also depends how Carlton move to match Dean.

Reckon we have enough cover to match King and Carmichael already if they both are 20+ and Kyle will be a rather easy one late on to just hold a pick 54 to match him

Curnow
Logan
Amartey
Papley
Rosas
Campbell

Is a dangerous forward line
I'm not sure why everyone is so big on Rosas. Averages around 2 tackles a game, less than one goal over a 5 year career. He comes to us with less on his CV than Sam Grey or Lewis Taylor. I've got him in my watch category, definitely not best 23 until I see some evidence he can play.

Pretty sure last season's stats put us above average for clearances but below average for converting I50 entries.

Having said that, we can get bullied in the middle when up against big bodies.
You could also add contested marking. We were completely deficient.

Certainly improves that area for us and will have a flow on effect to other players. He will take the no.1 defender.

I know it will always be 'Sydney paid three 1st round picks for Curnow', but the 2027 pick really needs to be considered as a separate transaction.

If bids for King and Carmichael, and maybe Kyle, all come inside 30, we were always going to have to trade something decent out to get the extra points.

Fair to say that after laping up Longmires spiel after the 22GF loss Swans leadership have been primed for action after the 24 GF debacle.
.
DC, Cameron & co have made their moves and good on them, let's see how it goes. There was a lot of back slapping post buddy signing which didn't land the big cup so head down and go to work lads. Sometimes close calls from foxes at night brings on lots of egg laying so hopefully all the action sends the message...look forward to an improved death stare from Rowbottom and a great 26..serong going to be good for us. Curnow can at least take a mark..
This may be the most profound thing I've ever read on BF.

Kinda the same as Bobby Hill...

The last second thinking of adding 2027 F1 for basically #31 and FF2 could be a massive win for Sydney long term and a headline new article for Carlton in the short term

Three firsts and Hayward is such a reductive summary, I agree.

We got three 2nds back. Also Carlton are going to be terrible so our 2027 1st and their 2027 second may not be that far apart…

This is actually way closer to the Jeremy Cameron trade than petracca/judd.

It’s more about pick slides than outright picks. For a team that mostly selects from its academy this is fine.

Then again if we suck, this is a horrific trade… so there is always that.

I hope for Rowbottom getting shopped around is a bit of a kick up the ass that lights a bit of a fire in him. Something similar happened to Jude if I recall.
Rowbottom is someone from what he showed when first came into the comp, I probably expected him to be better than he is, not saying he's a bad player or not in the best 23 or anything like that, but I think there's a better player in there somewhere. He's a guy that should/could be a consistent B+ level. Right now like too many on the list his gap between his best and worst fluctuates too much.
Love that he had the attitude of '**** off im staying' though.
Midfield got smashed in the two GFs.
Rowy is paying for being a part of that along with Parker perhaps being told last year.
You can't just be a tackling mid. You need another few strings to the bow.
Now Parker was signed with us for 2025 season so I don't want to hear about how well he went at the second bottom basket case club. How will he have gone for us in the 2026 midfield. Same boat as Rowbottom.

I wonder if there is any correlation between the AFL integrity unit sniffing around Geelong and them not being able to do what seemed like a simple deal for Marshall?

Hardly the Cats refused to offer up a pick the Saints wanted- they stated explicitly their 2026 future 1 had to be included, yet the Cats tried every way to NOT include it

Just thinking about the trade period this morning and what we had to give up. I think another consideration is the compounding impact that immediate and also sustained success can have on a team in the modern game. With free agency it's more important than ever to not bottom out for too long, but also to remain in contention for premierships for as long as you can as well.

Sustained success means you're often paying less to both retain and attract players. You're also both less likely to lose free agents and more likely to attract them. The Geelong model (rorts aside) has become the new norm for success.

Sometimes it's worth trading away a bit of your future in order to stay at the top and reap the benefits that come with it. Even if we're forced out of the draft for a while, we have a very good side already and hopefully we'll be a destination club like Brisbane, Hawthorn and Geelong in the very near future.

I was wondering about this too. Referencing the contract status thread update, we have one senior spot available currently after our trade period with Rampe and Lloyd yet to be confirmed publicly by the club what they're doing.

I imagine they might go to the rookie list to free up two spots on the senior list so that we can take three guys in the National Draft (King, Carmichael, and Kyle presumably) and then we'd have 1 Cat A spot and 1 Cat B spot available. Chamberlain for one and then maybe someone else on the Cat B if we intend on filling out the list fully? Does that seem right to others?

Outs: Florent, Hayward, Mitchell, Fox, Buller, Leidler, Paton, Francis, Kirk

Ins: Curnow, Serong, Rosas

We have one list spot available at this stage to use for national draft but its likely we will move at 2-3 veterans to rookie list and go to the ND with 3-4 picks. Then off to rookie draft with 2-3 picks. Wonder if it would be worth keeping a spot spare for a swing at the preseason draft just to f**k with the Crows????

Does anyone have a link to the draft points table for this year’s draft? I spent a fruitless while yesterday search in for one.
