My point wasnt that you dont know what skills we need.

Its you dont really know what the player we didnt match brings.

Well that's fair enough then, I'll back myself in but if Kondogiannis turns into a gun then I guess we have got it right.

He has started well so far, receiving high praise from training watchers.

He's certainly rangy and fits the mould of a guy that can compete in the air but cover the ground like a small, which is what you need to be if you are going to play back at that height.

It look as though he is going to be developed in the role that Cox should have been, despite the 10cm height difference he is ostensibly the same player. Still not convinced it was the biggest need but if he's best available at that juncture then so be it.

In typical post draft BF optimism, Kondo looks like quite a player; tall, quick, locks down etc.
So why didn't he go higher in the draft? What does he have to work on?
He is not so much lock down. He needs to be a lot better there and he needs some development body wise.
Was okay for Vic Metro.
He is a guy who has sone decent raw skills to work with and some pace but has a fair bit of development needed.
Similar situation to Roberts.

I would have thought the far more important traits for someone that height is how quickly he picks up the ball in flight, how quickly he reads the cues and his decision making in when to go and when to hang back.

Please be aware Max is not an elite one on one defender.
Anyone who watched vic metro this year knows this.
Many recruiters believe defending is the easiest thing to teach.

This and needing to add a few kgs seems to be why he slid, not a guaranteed thing but like pretty much everyone we've drafted with Rosa, has some genuinely AFL standard traits to rely upon if he does.

If he can add some weight and learn to defend (Ridley is not a great one on one defender either) then his intercept work and leg speed means there's a player there.

It is. He does intercept okay.

Yep right on.
I wonder if he really was the player we needed here but he is a bomber and that is fantastic for him and his family.
I would have preferred Le ray with this pick and Onley instead of Huss but I hope I am wrong on both counts.
Go bombers

Are ppl happy with the range of players we selected? I’m not sure we needed another inside mid with where the game is going. That said, sharpe was probably best available.
I’d also have been happy with:
  • Robey mid / fwd
  • Taylor hb interceptor
  • Lindsay elite kick (starts hb buy plays anywhere)

My guess is we really liked farrow and thought Melbourne would pick him, making sharpe the best of the rest by our third pick.
However, if there is a gulf in class between Taylor and kondogiannis then I’d have preferred Taylor. Sharpe seems an old Essendon safe pick à la Hobbs. Hope I’m wrong.

We absolutely needed another small forward, with who we took taking Onley would have been overkill

Sharp is going to be the best of the lot.

The comparison to Hobbs is lazy and shit and has been picked apart a bunch of times already.
