Will Elliott and Moore go straight in the team or have a run in the VFL first having not played seniors for quite some time? It sounded like Goldy might have been hinting at this a bit.
No one this year has played, so if fit straight in. Don’t need a run in the vfl.

Apologies if a similar thread already exists Feel free to merge if so.

The AFL.com website have just put together what they believe to be our Rd 1 team of those players available (suspension and injuries keep some out eg Scharenberg)

That team is as follows

B: Brayden Maynard, Lynden Dunn, Tom Langdon
HB: Jeremy Howe, Darcy Moore, Jack Crisp
C: Steele Sidebottom, Scott Pendlebury, Taylor Adams
HF: Will Hoskin-Elliott, Brody Mihocek, Jaidyn Stephenson
F: Jordan De Goey, Mason Cox, Jamie Elliott
Foll: Brodie Grundy, Dayne Beams, Adam Treloar
I/C: Travis Varcoe, Daniel Wells, Brayden Sier, Josh Thomas

Defender depth: Tyson Goldsack, Ben Reid, Matt Scharenberg, Flynn Appleby, Nathan Murphy, Jack Madgen, Isaac Quaynor, Will Kelly, Mark Keane, Sam Murray

Forward depth: Ben Crocker, Tim Broomhead, Anton Tohill, Atu Bosenavulagi

Midfield depth: Tom Phillips, Chris Mayne, Levi Greenwood, James Aish, Callum Brown, Tyler Brown, Josh Daicos, Rupert Wills

Ruck depth: Jordan Roughead, Max Lynch

Proposed modifications
- I think the bench needs at least one defender on it for rotations. Drop Wells and introduce Quaynor, Murphy or Aish depending upon pre-season form and the opposition mix.
- I think Phillips, as our best runner, should take a wing. I'd leave out Thomas given the reintroduction of Elliott to the team and place either Adams, but probably Treloar, on the bench as part of the midfield rotations..

Otherwise, I think the team is a very strong one. it'd be great to field a team of this quality throughout the season.
Out Hoskin Elliott injuried.
Jordan Degoey injured
Jeremy Howe injured
Lyndyn Dunn managed
Daniel Wells (unift to be picked)
Ben Reid (unfit to be picked)

In
Jaime Elliott
Callam Brown
Josh Daicos
Chris Mayne
Jordan Roughead
Tom Phillips

Should all play ahead of those 6 on 22nd of March.

Reckon DeGoey and Howe will be right to go. WHE will miss a week or 2 I think.

B - Langdon Moore Howe
HB - Crisp Roughead Maynard
C - Treloar Pendlebury Sidebottom
HF - Thomas Mihochek Elliott
F - DeGoey Cox Stephenson
R - Grundy Beams Adams
INT - Phillips Varcoe Sier Mayne
I don’t think Howe will be right to go and not sure about Degoey.

With our Hyphen on the sidelines amending round 1 team.

Round 1:

B. Langdon ~ Roughead ~ Maynard

HB. Howe ~ Moore ~ Crisp

C. Sidebottom ~ Beams ~ Treloar

HF. Mihocek ~ De Goey ~ Stephenson

F. Elliott ~ Cox ~ Thomas

R. Grundy ~ Pendlebury (c) ~ Adams

I. Mayne ~ Sier ~ Varcoe ~ Phillips

E. Reid, Murphy, Aish, Greenwood

Be interesting to see who gets a run Friday and what positions they line up in. Could provide a few clues toward the R1 team. You'd imagine there'll be an extended bench for both sides with a few being trialled as well as a few who miss due to a lack of preparation.

I like your idea of fitting both blokes in the 22 by melding them into a superhuman.

I reckon Reid will play. Big call I know.

I'm also assuming WHE gets up but JDG misses out.

Elliott is a certainty

Quaynor I'm not sure about but my early call is.................just play him.

Dont think Roughead will play....hes just a backup. Although we said the same about Dunn two years ago. Not for round one though.

FB: Isaac Quaynor ~ Darcy Moore ~ Brayden Maynard
HB: Jack Crisp ~ Tom Langdon ~ Jeremy Howe
C: Steele Sidebottom ~ Scott Pendlebury ~ Adam Treloar
HF: Chris Mayne ~ Ben Reid ~ Will Hoskin Elliott
FF: Josh Thomas ~ Mason Cox ~ Jamie Ellliott
R: Brodie Grundy ~ Taylor Adams ~ Dayne Beams
Int: Brodie Mihocek ~ Jaidyn Stephenson ~ Tom Phillips ~ James Aish

First emergency and line ball with Aish............Greenwood. In all likelyhood he'll play because my WHE call will be wrong.

Just a thought:
How about picking a side to play and beat the one we're opposed to?

Geelong will start with Hawkins at FF and Ratogalea at CHF.....Langers wouldn't come up to Esava's shoulder. I'm predicting Roughead will take Hawkins and Darcy Moore will take Esava. And if Reid starts at CHF in front of Mihocek then last year was for nothing!
Reid was a great CHB 8 years ago....but he can't even bend and touch the ground any more. We have Cox to take the high balls, Ben Reid is a last resort. Or maybe Reidy could play on Hawkins?....Nah he tried that in 2011.

Picking players on form and letting the opposition worry about you rather than the other way around is my preference. We might have won the flag last year if we'd had the nads to roll the dice on Moore or Reid. I'd like Reid to get another chance but its up to his pre season form.

If Mihocek misses out round one (hes in my team anyway) it doesnt mean career over or 2108 was a waste. Thats just silly talk.

Sorry Tim but "silly talk" is attempting to resurrect a lame old CHB that can't bend down for a ground ball as a mobile CHF. Our forward line works now because we don't play too many slow, inflexible players (bar Coxy and he's 7' and a weapon). Benny Reid's a nice bloke and all and I'll never forget he's a premiership player and all...but like Daniel Wells....he's past it.

Interesting thoughts.

To me can’t see Greenwood missing for Quaynor. Just don’t think he’s getting the nod, not yet anyway.

Also a glaring over sight I’m sure, but Mr Sier not getting a game?

I like Ben Reid but just a bit iffy with him but can see him being picked but I reckon they pick Roughead here to go back so Langdon can do a sweeping role.
Allows Roughead to assist some ruck time and hence Reid misses.

Yes I have left Sier out for round one. Not 22 yet.

Chuck in Crisp instead of Aish and I reckon that's a pretty solid lineup :)

If Crisp is available and ready he’ll definitely play.
So some drops out and yes could be Aish as he was my last in.

Crisp is a sure thing if healthy.

Good point.

Oh forgot he wasn't a lock for R1 just yet.
If not, I think that's probably the best team we could muster given what's available.

My new team assuming Howe, Crisp and DeGoey are available and WHE + Adams arent

B: Maynard, Roughead, Langdon
HB: Crisp, Moore, Howe
C: Treloar, Pendlebury, Sidebottom
HF: Varcoe, Cox, Stephenson
F: Thomas, De Goey, Elliott
Foll: Grundy, Sier, Beams
