Under 23s trial game between Port & Crows

I haven't seen either of Clurey or Lienert so far this preseason, but going on what I have seen of them during the last two seasons Clurey has appeared to me to be the stronger defender in one on one situations, particularly against bigger opponents when the ball has come in high, whilst Leinert has tended to be matched against the more elusive types.

If it comes down to only one of them being selected for a particular game I expect it will have a fair bit to do with a specific match up as to which one gets the gig.

This is how I remember mahney. The beginning of the video is terrible clears up though.

Still remember that day clear as day. Epic game. Also remember the match the year before when Fiacchi and Hart went toe to toe under the old scoreboard

A cult figure in the making?
The kinda bloke you warm to because, well I dunno, because he makes me smile.
Kicking action is not textbook but effective if the wind is from the Northeast

I think Bicks or Hartlett said exactly that about his kicking action.

Clurey has proven time and time again that he refuses to use his main assets (his speed and endurance) to push up the ground and affect the play with forward intercepts, so until he does that he's going to find himself out of the team. There's a place for him if he can do it though.

If you're asking me who would I rather have - Byrne-Jones or Houston - I'm taking Houston every single time. Byrne-Jones only really got a look in because Broadbent was injured. Perfectly acceptable back up and will do a fine job when required, but at this stage of his career he needs to be doing better than fine. He's now 23 years old and he needs to add attacking prowess to his game.

As for Burton - my future team when Hartlett and Broadbent retire in a few years has Bonner and Burton coming off of high half back and pushing through midfield up forward and kicking those long raking goals. It will be awesome.

Lol his ball drop when he had that shot on goal was hilarious. I was seated all the way on the wing and he took that shot in the opposite pocket to my side and I could still see it clearly from where I was. The ball was at his chest when he released it lmao.

He's working with the rehab team. Loves checking himself in the mirror lmao. Spent alot of time with Rocky and Hammer. I believe he's doing or has done his thesis while working with the club. He spent some time at Westies I think as their S&C.
Interesting. He’s not necessarily the kinda guy I would ever have expected to go on to do a thesis in anything, lol.

Lol I agree. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed but he loves what he does.

I dont see Clurey and lienart competing for the same spot. Clurey played as a negating one on one sefender. Lienart played as a loose interceptor with no defensive match ups. Lienart seems to be competing with Burton and Houston. 6 6 6 could make it tough for loose intercept defenders.

I find myself liking Bickley. He understands us even if he isn't one of us. He's also pretty knowledgeable and quite balanced, if not favourable to us.

...... an ambassador of what we once were before the blow in's and hipsters arrived?
A throw back to days gone by. Born and raised local he wouldn't be outta place
amongst the checked shirt tattoo'ed bull terrier brigade decked out in ripples drainpipes and with an attitude to match.
Might even be prone to dropping his aitches. Ya wont find him on the catwalk but you'd want him with you in the trenches.

*disclaimer
have never met him this drivel ^ is based on nothing more than his looks and pedigree.
Haha, I’m not quite sure how to respond to this old mate.

The only issue I had with the commentary was Big Source in the first half constantly trying to convince the viewers what a collection of hilarious characters all the crow players are - 'Get him to tell you what his spirit animal is. Huh huh, what a story'

Just finished watching replay

Amon was huge. Wasn’t waiting and getting ball out on space on the wing either. Was hitting contests at speed and breaking away. Taking 1 on 1 marks around the ground. He will get 22 games if he plays like that

Bonner was his partner in crime. The two of them tore the young crows apart tearing through the middle at speed.

Drew. Loved his game. Have talked him up for ages but also thought injuries might slow down his progress a bit. His hands in close were amazing. His tackling and positioning around packs was elite. His speed and kicking are well above the average inside mid.

Wines drew pudney spp Duursma and Rozee are the tallest midfield collection we’ve ever had. 185-190 the lot of them.

Tobin Cox is Sam Gray. Didn’t surprise me to hear Harts say Kenny saw him play for Glenelg and liked him.

I strongly believe Marshall will go down as the best skilled and on the ground key forward to ever play afl. Even with the acknowledgement he is getting people still don’t understand how rare his combination of athleticism, speed , reaction and most importantly speed of mind is.

Doug’s was Doug’s.

Surprised to see broady up to speed so quickly

New kids look quite good. Still tonnes of work to do I don’t think any of them debut until mid year or later.

Mahney looks like angry boak on steroids lol.

Burton was a bit disappointing but man he looks fit.

Farrell looked very sharp with ball in hand.

Overall we look to have a lot more skilled players now.

Also crows collection of small forwards will trouble some teams. Could be death by a thousand cuts.

Well that was a good game on replay.

Thought Drew, Bonner and Broady were my standouts.

Drew, Farrell, Frampton, Hewett, Marshall, Butters, Garner and Patmore all also impressed with clean hands around the contest.

Loved the intent from butters, duursma and drew to impact the contest. Thought Amon grew into the match.

Only disappointments were Ladhams - no impact, and Burton - Poor kicking. Will be two of Burton, Liebert and Bonner I reckon. JLT will be interesting.

Mahney looks like a looney. Loved it. Needs to rock up to games in a straight jacket and get released just before the siren. I'd be intimidated.
Agree i think we should play burton foward nice shot for goal and i think he played most his games there as a junior and was elite we have enough hbf players.

Seriously do not get the Brad Crouch love. I've watched the game twice now and I thought he had zero impact with his usual meaningless disposals game. Crows board are pumped over his performance some how :drunk::drunk:
I've never seen it his brother is a far better player and should be playing for us.

Haha there’s a Port Glenelg game at Alberton where he shapes up to Peter Carey and old man Super looks at him half confused half bemused WTF in that slow way.

Amon is the sleeper this year. There is a spot in the side if he wants it and is good enough

There’s a spot in the side for anyone who wants it and is good enough.

Amon’s issue is that he falls out of games by not getting involved enough. Maybe this year it’s clicked that his AFL career might be over unless he starts to put in the effort because the younger players are going to go past him.

We can only hope.

On the Marshall/Fogarty debate, Marshall had 1 goal and 3 goal assists. Two with lightening handballs off his toes (Drew 1Q and Amon 4Q), and a neat pass to Burton (3Q).
And a very quick handball to Mead in last Q who goaled.
So a total of 4 goal assists ... :thumbsu::D
