I thought he did ok.
It was funny when he booted it out on the full and the commentators said how good he is and how he looks like he's been at the level for 10 years.

Well maybe Carlton's level :)

I'm not shitting on the kid people expect too much too early but if he was pick 25 that game wouldn't have rated a second of mention

Some of the Richmond lot definitely got worse ever since their first flag in 40 years (probably twice as long as their own lives).

If only people cared if North stayed or folded hey? How are those big fish looking?

Sent from my iPad using righteous Bhodi manpower

Could they have blown any more smoke up the ass of an absoloutely bog average debut.

Walsh looked every bit the nervous first year player but they made it sound like he got brownlow votes. Can we just wait for him to actually play well before talking about how amazing he is? Sickening

Petracca got the exact same treatment from the media. But then they'll go and use the Watts example of the dangers of overhyping a player.

Petracca is still getting it. Hasn't taken any game by storm yet but is regularly in the star discussion. Absurd

Pies mafia strike again. Go cats. Talk about glass houses from usual Collingwood trolls on a non Pies thread. Yeah Dunn and Goldsack = Rance! Guess Blues and Tiges supporters turn is tonight during Pies gameday thread. Watch them whinge.

Good to see Carlton get some good run on. Was a bit nervous for them after the first qtr - looked like a blow-out was on the cards.

Why is it that the media have taken to labeling Rance as a 'Class act' and 'showing true character' for coming back and sitting on the bench to support the team after he did his knee...?
What else was he going to do? Sit around in the change room and mope about for 45mins? Anyone that has played team sports at any level would have done the same thing!

Seemed to be everywhere and covered the most kilometres of any player on the ground which proved it. That wouldn't be a normal evening for most debutants in the history of the game. Skills were a tad rusty which is to be expected. Thankfully watched the whole game with the sound off so didn't get the commentary bias.

He will deliver the best debut season we have seen in a long time.

Didn't Danger drive home when he got injured in a JLT match?

Not a bad first up hit out for either side.

Richmond showed they can pull away when needed and have the ability to kick quick goals on the break. How good is Higgins, love watching him play.
Genuine shame about Rance, never like to see any player get injured - especially when its a serious injury by the looks of it.

Carlton showed they are heading in the right direction. I thought they lacked a bit of polish when the ball entered the 50. Walsh, Dow & McKay showed they will be very good players in the future.

I thought the calton youth ran out of legs as you would probably expect.

Tom Scully also ran around a shitload early but wasn't very good until about his 5th season

Every team's gets trolled on Bigfooty.
But the only team you're allowed to troll with impunity on the main board, including injury trolling players with season ending injuries, is Richmond.
Aint that right Chief
It's OK though. We understand that you're all really, really triggered that the biggest club in the land is also the best :thumbsu:

This is simply not correct and goes back to my original point. Also the vast majority of posts regarding Rance in this thread were either remarking on the severity of the injury or sympathising with Rance.

And what did it get you, you ended up losers just like the rest of us.

you sound like north supporters celebrating prelim wins, if you don't back it up it means **** all just ask Adelaide

Last time we won a prelim we won the flag.

I'm honestly horrified by this post. Our club makes decisions about what information to release about injuries and illness taking the players right to privacy into account. I'm sure other clubs do the same.

To assert that gambling is more important than their human rights is very disturbing.

Exactly, it is mind boggling.

So you think when you choose a career your basic human rights are on the table? Because it would aid people who wish to gamble

Lol basic human rights.... it's a sports injury and dimma basically confirmed it post game, every other sport in the world is opt-in about injuries and you pretty much know before the game is over. It's not like they are telling everyone about which players have std's or some shit.

Some of the Richmond lot definitely got worse ever since their first flag in 40 years (probably twice as long as their own lives).

It's ok mate eventually you will get another greatest player ever to carry you to flags.

Disagree. The docs will know what it is. They should be made to tell everyone and next to the score Channel 7 should flash it: Rance suspected MCL tear (12 weeks). Massive crowd there tonight, millions watching and still they are left in the dark. Pathetic.

Agree: When I did my MCL playing Ice Hockey in 2015 the Doc told me what it was within 10 minutes of my injury.

Healing and Rehab took 19 weeks before I could skate again handle contact.

So just saying he could be back for Finals!

We obviously lost to a more seasoned team. No excuses though and expect the group to improve as the year goes on.

Docherty and Kreuzer missing hurts but still no excuse. We need to improve our ball movement every week incrementally 5% every week. Some of our youngsters are gaining confidence in their bodies now they need confidence in their abilities and this only comes from winning games.

Without wanting to respond - I wasn't making reference to "elite" players.

What I referred to was the loss of key defenders - not just one but several at the same time. Your first choice, second choice, the next replacement after that etc etc. Then you start swinging players from other parts of the ground to fill the void.

Perhaps you remember last season that the Pies had to promote Jack Magden from the rookie list to replace Lynden Dunne.
Magden was a basketballer playing for the Cairns Taipans in the NBL in 2017. We drafted him in November 2017.
When Jeremy Howe was injured Magden replaced him in the side.
In Round 20 he debuted - against Sydney in Sydney at CHB - on Lance Franklin. His first senior AFL game.
We had Moore at FB but he was still proppy only a week back from his hamstring injury so they put him at Full Back and he broke down again during the game and didn't play for the rest of the season after that.
We lost the game by 2 points - Franklin kicked 6 goals.
Magden then played the next 3 games - and was injured just before the finals. (Replaced by Goldsack who as you know hadn't played for a year after a knee reco.)
So when your side has seasoned footballers and backups to play key positions and they all go down with injury it affects the team - elite or not.

That and the fact they have to keep adjusting as a defensive unit because they haven't been able to string games together playing together.
No Dunne, Howe, Scharenberg, Goldsack, Reid, Crocker etc etc.
We had to play Oxley in the last three rounds of the H&A season alongside Magden. (We delisted Oxley at the end of the season.)
Also played Nathan Murphy in the last two H&A games - a rookie forward in his first 2 games - as an interchange on a wing so that we could play a midfielder in the half back line - because we had few replacements - even Appleby was injured at that stage.

So Yes - it is easier to replace your first 22 mid tier players - that's of course if you still have fit players to replace them with.
It was our rucks and midfield that kept us in the hunt last year.
That and players like De Goey and Cox who had breakout seasons.
Not bad for a side that most had pegged as a bottom 8 side at the start of the season.

Now.....
Again...
This is a Richmond game day thread - but all these Richmond posters want to talk about Collingwood. Get a membership seeing as you are so fixated on the Pies.
I assume this is because last year still hurts. Stiff.
You obviously want to vent and have a go at the Pies. Stiff.
Its a new season - get over it.
BTW - Best of luck for the season. :thumbsu:

Rance is injured. Hope he makes a full recovery. Hope his replacement steps up.
I also hope you don't lose too many more key defenders - because that is what happened to the Pies last year.
Elite player or not if you get to the stage when you have to play a rookie on Lance Franklin because you have no-one else left it does affect your team.
No excuses - just fact.
Whilst your post was way too long to be bothered reading, I think it's important that you reminded us that the Pies are the first team in AFL/VFL/VFA history to have ever had injuries. I think it was fantastic that they managed to overcome these to win their grand final last year, a prelim against Richmond :thumbsu:

I thought if Carlton had a bit more poise late 3rd quarter they could have really made the Tigers sweat.
Enjoyed the game more than i thought i would early on when it looked a flogging
