I've said a couple of times this pre season we are looking super fit. Running power is so important in the New AFL Order. And we showed a touch of steel in this game.

Willem Drew was very good

He was just about the best of the rookies and will be the least heralded. Just kept winning tough ball in tight and using it intelligently. Just takes that split second to make a decision and it is usually a good one.

Could we possibly have correctly preempted the impact of 6-6-6? We cut through the big Melbourne bodies like a scythe (buttercorn), genuinely looked like we had 2 extra men out there.

Our debut 6 all starred. We don't win this with last year's squad.

6-6-6 working good for us. We have an explosive list and to waste it with defensive football last year was stupid. Now that the ground is a bit more free up forward and in the middle, I can’t wait to see how we go

The best thing is that were not even close to our best;we still fumbled, made mistakes but the performance was polished when we all got it together.

A lot of players mentioned already just want to give the ups to burton and dbj. Both were said to be lucky in the team for different reasons. I watched dbj closely and saw him always supporting the younger blokes from behind.

There was one play where we switched about 3-4 times and led to a scoring shot. From past seasons id never imagine in my wildest dreams we would be that clean

This performance was so much more than I expected. I thought if we saw signs from the rookies at AFL level, an understanding of the game plan, and some cohesion in a re-tooled team, I would be happy.

To do enough to beat Melbourne at the G, for the kids to influence the result and to come away thinking we could be so much better. Well, that was just being greedy.

SPP won’t be dropped yet. If he cleaned up his disposal and stupid frees today he was okay. Not sure who goes out for Wines though when he’s back. You couldn’t drop Drew on today’s performance either. Some tough calls coming up.

Loved his endeavour but drop him on the basis of the don't argue in Q1 that ended up with a predictable HTB against him
