I'm not quite sure what others see in Aish as anything other than depth (which he was for the later half of the season and certainly should not have played the prelim before Scharenburg). Is he statistically important to the structure of our backline?
Our defense with him gave up an average of 70 points, with an 8-6 record (57%).
Without him, our defense gave up an average of 67.2 points, with a record of 8-2 (80%).

Our defense with him vs top 8 teams gave up an average of 76.56 points, with a 5-4 record (56%).
Without him vs top 8 sides, our defense gave up an average of 70.75 points, with a 3-1 record (75%).

Statistically, and our general win/loss record, was better without him, in 2019.

The one thing I will give Phillips credit for is that he is often the player that most helps us transition the ball up and down the ground with his gut running. Kind of like a non-damaging Sidebottom.

He’s dependable so with him it just comes down to a discussion on his cost vs how much you lose by having a different player replacing him. He is only a one trick pony though, so he’s a winger or bust and we already have a logjam of outside mids being forced to play inside ineffectively.

But we don’t have a logjam of wingers though. Or guys who can do it well.

From my perspective it has gone back to being a really specialist position again.

Shame shame on you. Forgetting one of if not the Greatest Collingwood player of all time.View attachment 764194
Could never forget a player that was so good that he had a Chinese Star sign named after him. I just remember his greatness as having been all year round rather than just confined to one month.

P.S. When we didn't play in finals, I have heard rumours that he used to absolutely dominate in September...

Could you have just hit the perfect Phillips definition?

I think so.

And it wouldn't be fair to put it all down to him as if he was the sole reason we were statistically worse on defence (plus it's quite a marginal difference), though it shows that having him in the side didn't make our defense anymore superior than without him.

But he stepped it up come finals. Why do you think no other clubs asked about him? His greatness was just too good for other clubs to even consider.

Actually, h never got the chance to, but we all know he would have torn the Finals to shreds - possibly to use as a roach in his joint.

What will we get from Freo? They have pick 22 which is too much for Aish, then 79. Nothing in the 30-45 range.

St Kilda have no picks in the 30-45 range either so not like Freo will get a pick like that from the Hill trade.

Aish + 35 for Griffin Logue and Freo’s 3rd rd next year (would be around 45)

Pick 7. Original value for Aish.

I’d be happy if it was a month, if we didn’t have trade radio and all these journalists reporting articles 24/7.

The media create the urgency. They make it out like 14 days isn’t enough, yet nothing happens till the last hour.
That is why the afl love it.
