There are no crowds there. Any contract with Marval and MCG is worth fu**all to them atm anyway. Is there not a contract with AO and Optus? Surely continuity for Ch7 and Fox is worth more than providing games in empty Vic stadiums.
The MCG clubs and Freo have got deals in place which will make them $1mill each from playing games at home this year. Good luck doing that here.

"Fox told the clubs the unforeseen cash boost was in part a goodwill gesture from the stadium in tough times and one that underlined the spirit of the long-term agreement with the AFL and the MCG, which now runs until 2057.

Under the complex new arrangement the AFL will pay the MCG a significantly reduced ground management fee and the stadium in turn will forward the majority of that fee – about $6 million – to the home clubs."

Its not that easy and simple. There are agreements to have game at the MCG which the MCC are paying big money for. Same applies at Marvel. These are big revenue items in a lean season. I am not saying that I disagree that things need to be moved out of Vic ASAP, but its naive to think that Gil is trying to keep games in Victoria just coz he wants to look after the victorian clubs.
No they don't if no crowds rock up. There would be a Force Majeure type clause in any agreements.

There would be no amounts paid to clubs without crowds. The MCC have decided by a goodwill gesture to pay tenant clubs some monies for games played there.

But the AFL pays capital contribution type rent as part of the development of the two big redevelopments - 1992 Great Southern Stand and 2003-06 Northern half of ground redevelopment. I know it started at $1m + CPI for GSS and either $5m or $6m a year for 32 years to help pay for the redevelopment for the northern stands.

The_Wookie put some more up to date figures somewhere which I couldn't find, but he wrote this in 2015.

The AFL now pays 7 million per year to the MCC just for the Grand Stand developments. This doesnt include match costs or ground rental. The MCC in return pays a maximum of 4.6 million per year to the clubs in its $100,000 per game arrangement. The AFL collects in total about 69% of all revenues pertaining to football at the ground, while the MCC pays for costs out of the rest and keeps the remainder. (resulting in a total AFL income of between 8 and 9 million).

If the clubs don't play at the MCG, then rent would have to be paid by the AFL, but the MCC didn't have to pay the clubs anything.

The AFL got a 23,000 AFL members Reserve plus shinny new offices at MCG in 1992 for the $1m+CPI deal. In 2019, the AFL had 58,027 members. The AFL have stopped providing a breakdown but based on previous figure, that would be about 31,000 gold members, 23,000 silver members and 4,000 absentee members and about 49,000 would have ticked a Club support box and the AFL paid the relevant clubs a fee for adult, concession and junior members - around $150 for adult member for about an annual adult membership fee of $700.

That's a revenue stream of $28m - $30m for the AFL. The AFL, like the clubs, have offered, leave payment with AFL, pause in membership instalment payments, full refunds, or convert to absentee membership which was $170.

If the AFL have had to pay out most of that $28-$30m to AFL members, have the MCC reduced that $1mil+CPI annual payment?

The Victorian dream is dead for 2020. It's all over for them. Within a few weeks, there won't be any games played in Victoria or clubs based in Victoria for the rest of the season. Cotchin, Dangerfield and the rest of the babies will have to earn their money and go through the first mildly difficult challenge they've ever faced in their entire lives.
Just imagine the turmoil they'll have to endure if the grand final is played outside Melbourne.

That makes it worse, that they sign these huge contracts to benefit the Vic teams that also locks the games in there.
Just to show everyone that it’s ‘their’ game.

AFL players and club staff living in lockdown suburbs ordered to leave

AFL players living in Melbourne’s coronavirus “hot spots” have been ordered to relocate to another suburb to be eligible to play games in New South Wales.
Players must be out of their homes by midnight Wednesday.

Club football managers were informed of the edict this morning as teams prepare to vacate the state and set up camp in interstate hubs.

Multiple players and staff at seven AFL clubs are expected to be affected by the order.

The AFL has offered to put players up in hotels if they can’t find alternative accommodation.

...

Victorian club bosses are expecting to be told teams will be moved to interstate hubs as early as next week.

Not making the lockdown of those areas immediate is a dumb move by the Vic government. Anyone who can get out will move to an area that is not going to be under lockdown likely taking the virus with them.

Stand corrected then.Thanks REH

Bummer, hope we get to play them within the next 4 weeks, but unlikely
4 games takes suspension to end of Rd 8. They will be in Perth Rds 7,8 and 9.

If Collingwood are coming thru Adelaide for 2 games they would send him here after Rd 7 and before Rd 8 to quarantine.
