They did 4 x 1 kers.
Personally, i would find that type of running much harder than the usual 2k or 3k trial the players like to get out of the way preseason.
That's when i was at peak fitness in the 70's.

I wonder if the players knew it was to be 4 or just stopped after 4.
Physically and mentally the later would be much harder.

BRISBANE LIONS Injury Update

Will Ashcroft – Went down with an ACL against Geelong in July. Resumed running last month and is expected back in the second half of 2024.

Tom Doedee – The former Crows defender ruptured his ACL in June. The Lions hope to have him fit for selection during the middle of next season, sometime around the bye rounds.

Noah Answerth – Had a dour time at the end of last season missing time with a facial injury and then a shoulder. Is back to full fitness.

Kai Lohmann – Is back from his broken collarbone and by all reports has set his sights on breaking into the AFL side next season. Kept neck-and-neck with Hugh McCluggage in the early running drills and has bulked up.

Jack Payne – Missed the grand final with an ankle injury but is well and truly over that now. Is back for pre-season and looking fit.

James Madden – The dashing Irish defender missed the majority of last season with a shoulder injury. Returned for day one of pre-season fit and ready to go.

Its good to read that Lohmann was keeping up with McCluggage in the running drills, that is a good sign that he might be ready to take the next step and work himself into the team.

Agree fantastic news re Lohmann, so only Doedee and Ashcroft will start next season on the injured list and both of them will be so professional and diligent with their recovery that I am expecting both to come back in fantastic shape mid season. Wouldn't be surprised if both are back to their best footy by finals 2024.

Gee I wish we got some decent off season reports/footage from the Lions, the communication stuff is about the only thing that is well below standard for our club... quite annoying for me as a wannabe voracious consumer of Lions news.:(

Got a funny feeling I heard that we lost a couple from the media department during the off season.
Probably still going through the process of hiring.

Very interesting reading Lohman with that sort of running ability. I've always had him pegged more as a small forward but wonder if he could be pushing for more of a flanker role. Maybe aiming at Zorko's spot or maybe the role Dev has played

He's been a 185cm small forward (about the same height as Rayner) for most of his career but it's important for ALL players to improve their capabilities and become more versatile if the opportunity comes up. The club rates Kai highly (so do i) and want him in the best 22 as soon as he can prove his worth in the team which I dont think will be too long into 2024.

Lohmann played mostly as a midfielder in school footy, which the club watched a lot of.

Pretty sure I heard Conole mention when Lohmann was drafted that the club hopes he could eventually play time as a forward and on ball.

I hope that marathon hasn't delayed the healing or caused any further damage to that shoulder. It's a lot of running and jarring if it's just not quite right. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a dumb decision in the long run. I appreciate the cause and the funds raised was amazing, I hope it doesn't hurt his season.

Jarrod was on the bike for most of it.

So nobody has any mail on the big 'improvers' from the 4 x 1km?

Also skeptical re berry and his shoulder. i don't think it hurts him all that much strength wise despite talk of what he can't do in the gym. look at him in that melbourne semi, bringing down oliver and breaking tackles.

let's be honest he is not vital to our fortunes - where is he in the pecking order? in terms of value to the side without any debate clearly behind: joe, dunks, clugga, ashcroft, neale, rayner, kiddy, charlie, hippy, andrews, bailey, starce, payne, oscar. so at best he is at 15th.

but the GF also showed our biggest weakness is our wings. i think that was a bit of a combination of things: will got injured so clugga went inside, fletcher very young and season got a bit deep for him without a pre season, and berry and ah chee have become break glass types.

i think flexibility is really important in a team but we need to be a bit more set on our wing positions going in to next year. for me clugga has shown he is a centre square player. Fletcher i think should start as one of the main 2. i think he should be our more attacking winger, has natural instincts. Berry i think for his running power and with his good discipline he should play on the opposition's best attacking winger each week. he plays better that way anyway. third winger bit more of a toss-up and will probably depend on what is happening in the midfield, i'd be happy for dev to be doing some inside minutes with some wing minutes and ditto bailey. Dev as more defensive, bailey as more attacking.

Enormous upside in terms of improvement from within with a player like Lohmann pushing for a best 22 spot. If he improves his strength and running capacity even by 10% we will see a markedly improved player. He has the potential to be a real difference maker as a link player between the mids and forwards playing as a half forward flanker.

Most important thing is he gets a full, uninterrupted preseason in and if so he will be in the mix for our preseason games to put his hand up for a Round 1 spot.

I wouldn’t say Berry and Ah Chee are break glass types. They are best 22-24 players.

Mathieson and Fullarton fit that description.

Dimma already putting his stamp on Suns with focus on pace.

Rayner for us is hopefully on this type of repeat sprints stuff as well.

If you ask the boy himself he would tell you he played small forwrad for most of his junior years but switch hit in the midfield when his team needed a spark. Most of all he's been a forward but in saying that, a midfield role is something I would like to see him play as his disposal is pretty good and his defensive work is also above average. If he could be a Dev with better disposal and decision making, I believe he'd be a huge asset.

He hasn't really shown anything to suggest he could play midfield in the AFL.
