Coach Justin Longmuir Pt 2

The club has an abysmal record picking new coaches, the biggest question is how do they set themselves up to get the right people to pick the next one. They need to somehow get a panel of mainly external people with success picking someone.
No Fremantle people on the selection committee. Get an external panel of highly knowledgeable and professional people to conduct a thorough process.

Or hire John Longmire now…

Longmire will have this team playing a structured boring brand of footy too. Swans loved the kick mark when he was there.

We need to find someone new. I want to enjoy watching this team every week.
He made it to 4 GFs, I would back him to be intelligent enough to adapt to current playing trends.

Inspired by (very) recent events, maybe the selection committee needs to use a smoke signals system during the selection process?

Red smoke means PBell is trying to influence the committee via texts, green smoke means the buffet lunch is running low, purple smoke means they have chosen the next coach?

This Justin Longmire guy stinks really bad. I think he expired in August 2023 but we are still drinking it and it's making the majority of us sick.

Brisbane were looking at missing finals based on their first six games last season.
You can't compare us to a team who lost a grand final by a kick and had been deep in finals for the past 6 years. It's not even the win loss record that worries me. We look miles off being a contender. As in nowhere near the level required. I think JL would make a great assistant coach. Not a senior coach.

I couldn't give a **** what the game style is if it results in our score being higher at the end of the game.

Just win. Don't care how.

Not that I'm endorsing Longmire by any stretch. But he would have a point to prove.

Coaches have identified that pressure is king. We aren't pressuring, we aren't defending the chip kicks. We aren't locking the ball in our attacking 50. We aren't tackling our arses off.

Our gameplan works against teams where we have an advantage in the midfield. We saw what a decent midfield can do to us on Saturday. They smashed us around the ball. Our backs never stood a chance. There was no pressure from us on the kick inside defensive 50.

Nothing changed. No moves were made. No tags applied and if they were then it was completely ineffective.

We looked off from the opening bounce and that's on the coach. So sick of the bullshit "That wasn't us." Yes it was us JLO! The players need to take some responsibly however when our gameplan seems to revolve around applying little to no pressure and laying very few tackles.... that's on the coach.
When they show JL in the coaches box he looks like the most nervous, finger nail biting "I can't watch this" fan you'll ever see. He's supposed to be leading these young men?

We’ve been that team for way too long. If we’re making a change may as well go all the way. Don’t think Longmire is our guy and the way his teams fail to show up for every GF is enough proof.

Best bet imo is going for an assistant on an actual premiership team.

The lack of forward pressure. I'm sure this was addressed in the breaks to the players (mentioned in the press conference) but I'm not sure how much can be done when Freddy, Switta, Banfield, Reid, Bolton are the ones that needed to up their pressure and did not.

Bolton and Reid obviously were contributing offensively. I don't really have an issue with their performance.

Freddy, Banfield were terrible. Switta got involved in patches.

I really don't understand how a player simply cannot stay next to their opponent. I watched Banfield 'try' and he was always about 5 metres off.
They are told to zone off, its the only explanation. You simply cant have been saying for 5 years “stand next to your opponent” and players just refuse.
Its preposterous.

No, its clear, they are instructed to zone off and stand 20 feet away and close fown the space once they have already marked it.

Then you get those extraordinarily bad I50 tackle number discrepancies, was it 24 to 4??, something like that.

Then he has the temerity to turn up to the post match and say it was unacceptable forward pressure by the players, after he has done NOTHING about it for 5 years. As if he isnt the coach!!

He also finally mentioned my perennial bugbear about how we get drawn into the ball and let the Dees get out wide of us. I was sort of glad he even noticed it.
Just took 5 years thats all and I am convinced he wont do anything about it.

As Ive said before great bloke, just one problem, he cant coach.

Whilst Im at it, I have another question.
Why is Sharp who is a right footer placed on the right hand side wing and NOD who is a left footer placed on the left side wing??
No wonder so many of Sharps pings from 55m slide across or go narrow.
It should be opposite so if the cut inboard they open up the angle.
This is just footy 101, learned this in Grade 1 Attadale Primary school footy team.

Ps probably wouldnt make much difference, Sharp missed that sitter to win us the game against the Pies last year and from memory he was on the “correct” side for a right footer that day.

It is a valid concern but he is the most experienced and most accomplished coach on the market.

I think a panel along the lines of Buckley, Mark Stone and Garlick. Not necessarily those exact people.

All footballing people. A former senior coach, a vastly experienced and strategy smart former assistant, a club insider.

Garlick is a JLo fanboy… no thanks. I actually want him to get the AFL house role so we can bring someone new in as CEO too.
Time to clean house.

I am a continued state of bewilderment that Garlick is even considered in the top 50 options for a job of significance at the AFL.

Both the totality of the men & women's programs have completely flatlined during his time.

It's because he's an AFL yes man that won't rock the boat - have you ever once seen or heard the guy actually stand up for the club when they consistently get shafted by fixturing, MRO or umpiring?

Need a hard line no nonsense CEO that's going to call out the AFL's bullsh*t - rather than another AFL house mouthpiece.

It does actually matter how. You can go through a whole season winning low scoring games, but you are almost guaranteed to fail in the finals. You need to have a top 5 attack to win a premiership.
