Rules of engagement:

By trading away our 2024 1st pick earlyish in the trade period last year showed West Coast we were not going to sit on our hands all week. I wonder if this strategy will encourage Bombers to deal, in good faith, earlier than the last 30 minutes of trade week.

I don't think the hawks will play silly buggers by offering unders for Merrett, so Bomber's attitude will be interesting. We want him and will pay the price.

What gets lost in all of these opposition frustrations when trading to Hawthorn, unlike some other clubs who see it only as a win proposition, Hawthorn always pays more than fair trade price at the time of the trade.

Depends on how you measure being a bust or not.

If you measure in terms of flags, Boyd is only one of five number 1 draft picks to have won a premiership. Under that measure, scarcely a bust.

Trade period starts tomorrow. I'm fully expecting Merrett to publicly announce that he wants to be traded to Hawthorn. Then the fun begins.

I really wish that the AFL would stop trying to "manage" the trade period.

I do wonder if * would like to get this one squared away early to use the picks for other targets.

Not sure about this. With a basketball style centre bounce a tall ruck that can jump may jump over top of reeves. Reeves is tall but can’t really jump and doesn’t love body contact. Reckon it may favour Chol more than anyone.

Also reeves and Meek isn’t a great combo. Both need to be playing primary ruck and not great as resting forward etc.

If Chol plays more ruck Ramsden may actually be more useful - showed this season is possibly our best down the line mark, can ruck and has a huge tank.

Agreed I would have thought Meek Ramsden Chol would be the preferred option for 2026 especially if playing Lewis.

Elimination of the bounce has been announced.

There has been talk all year that they will also introduce rules preventing rucks from engaging and wrestling, basically undoing the rule that hurt Reeves and elevated Meek. I don't think that's official yet, though?

Most of the ones I know think they are getting two first rounders, Mackenzie and Lewis. Deluded bunch.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it is. But that’s with their f2 coming back which if we finish 4th and they finish 15th is only an 8 pick slide. It would make the trade easier to satisfy the need to say they got 2 firsts and most of the uneducated supporter base will eat it up. Just be prepared this might be the enabler and evaluate the trade period as a whole unlike the people who said we overpaid for Barrass.
