Do Collingwood need to enter a rebuild phase?

You’re a bit late as the discussion centred around brownlow stats heathy
Yes bzparkes had his claim (backed by research) that you need to do top 5 in tackles to win a Brownlow.

And now you have the Tiger theory that poor Bont hasn't won because he has been in star studded teams that miss finals, whilst Neale and Daicos are making GF but getting all their teams votes (not because they are good) but because Dunkley, McLuggage, DeGoey, J.Daicos, Pendles aren't going to steal any votes.

Laughable, but predictable, that it apparently has become another Naicos is soft thread with the moronic Tiger tragics leading the way.

And be voted in the top-2 on ground in a final … hasn’t done that in seven finals thus far…. GOAT’s excel on the big stage…. Then again, finals are a lot more hotly contested than H&A.
Surprised you extended it to top2.

Can't get much more hotly contested than the last 10 minutes of a close GF.

Thankfully Daicos beat Neale and Dunkley (a dud according to your moronic attempt to discredit Neale) to the 1st possession at the centre bounce, got it to Pendles, then immediately followed up and got the goal assist to DeGoey.

Why has this thread once again been derailed to how good Daicos is?
He’s one vital cog of a squad of 30 that are needed to win a flag.

I’m not sure their squad got stronger this off season, but it will need some significant trade and FA action at the end of next season to avoid the inevitable cliff.

Also Gary Ablett Jnr could not propell a crap side into the finals, so why does anyone think Daicos could do better?

It will become a Rich v WC who has the most draft picks by the end of today at this rate (with a couple of Carlton nuffies also throwing in their pick 3s).

So the inevitable cliff may be avoided?

Um....

Because he had already done so.

Refer back to the narrative during 2021 - the cliff had come and after finishing 17th on the ladder, the Pies were set for at least 5 years of Carlton type 21st century mediocrity.

Enter N. Daicos.

He did
Since then key players have retired and further key players are getting to then end.
No back up ruck
A distinct lack of stand out young talent and no key position depth.

This thread will become a battlefield of "I told you so" if Collingwood slip out of the top 8.
Heaven help the supporters if it happens.
The Pies 'slipped out' of the top 8 in 2024, and bounced straight back into flag contention.

What level of performance do you blokes need to see from Collingwood to be proven right?

I suggest 2001 to indefinite Carlton level, or 2022 to current West Coast, or North for the last 5 years, etc.

But yes, feel free to flex about being proven right if Collingwood do so poorly as to drop out of the top 8 in 2026...

I agree that with a combination of smart trading, FA action and nailing a couple of lower draft picks that a cliff can be avoided (again).
They definitely didn’t this year.

They’ve got rid of Mihochek and bit part players. Brought nothing of note in.

I can’t see improvement in 2026 over this years squad.

2026 may just be a holding year where they see out their stars before they retire.

Has anyone actually ever entered a rebuild while having the best player in the competition in their side? Has any team say hit the bottom 6 with the best player in the competition in their side also?

Lets say if Collingwood do need to enter said rebuild are they not better off just trading Nick Daicos to Tasmania? Theyd be better off waiting til 2027 and trading Daicos for pick 5,7,11 and 2028 pick 5 and 7 in the end to begin said rebuild at that point as opposed to doing it now and grabbing mediocre picks in compromised drafts

Yep, that would be brilliant.

Let go of the best player in the competition, in the hope that the draft picks in return for him can net you a couple of players who are half as good...

Nope.

Pies will be fully expecting to again contend for the premiership in 2026, as they do when entering most seasons.
Yep, I get that will be the expectation.
But they’ve lost a couple of best 22 players and some depth while adding nothing of note.

The older guys held the team together but they aren’t improving.

Where does the improvement come from.

They only had 2 top 20 picks from the 2013-18 drafts on their list in 2020 (and they got rid of Cockatoo) at the end of 2020 and replaced him with Isaac Smith.

Jordan Clark the only remaining top 20 pick (who they also traded at the end of 2021).

So a club basically had 0 top 20 picks of their list from 7 drafts, and you think they had good young talent coming through...almost as if the draft pick ain't important.
Cocky was broken. Smith actually took mature ager Menagola's spot on the wing.

Clark wanted to go home so Geelong drafted a young ruckman with that pick. The perennial injured Conway.

Geelong didn't have a lot of success with its end of first round draft picks. They tended to find gold in the later rounds and rookie draft. Maybe Collingwood have been doing the same but it hasn't been super obvious to me.

Oh its completely absurd but its better then their absurdity of just rebuilding and doing nothing different but lose for the sake of losing thats for sure
