Essendon have Bewick who is rated higher than Rodan. might even be the favourite for pick 1 after Tasmania takes players out.

They will need almost as many points for Bewick and Rodan as we do for Salopek, Pilot and Rodan. Basically each club will need 3 or 4 first round picks. So his decision is a bit more difficult.
I wouldn't be surprised if Rodan is one of the last ones to nominate. He needs to first see which club is in a position to get him before committing to them

The club now has it's hands full with acquiring enough draft capital for both of these guys next year, as well as Cochrane this year.

If i was them, i'd be on the phone to tassie about their picks 5, 7, 11, and 13. Which i believe they are required to trade.

There’s been nothing said about them trading this year, and certainly don’t see how a team that doesn’t exist and has no players would be trading.

Their first trade period would be the offseason before the enter the league unless the afl decides otherwise

Remind me again, players on this shortlist can essentially join Tasmanias list for free right?

Which would weaken the draft pool in 2027. Hopefully a few take up the opportunity.

A weakened draft pool works in our favour, might give clubs more incentive to trade down the draft order

No it’s bad for us.

Good players being removed from the draft mean our guys get bid on earlier

Are Tasmania able to already trade their 2027 picks this year in advance?

See my reply above.

Yea from the top 20 players, Tasmania will take 5+ before the draft, then they get pick 1, 3 and 9 in the draft. Then you have another 4 tied to Port and Essendon.

A lot of clubs will be happy to trade into this year and give us pick upgrades for 2027

Interesting that Tevita not announced at the same time. Potentially means he is leaning Essendon.
Tevita is not on the shortlist for tassie, the other two are

Conversley, why has he not nominated essendon yet?

He is best mates with salopek, he knows zemes and cochrane, surely it would be more incentive to nominate us.
The irony of these rules changes may mean Tevita is more likely to nominate Port.
I understand we have Pilot and Salopek, but Essendon have Bewick who would be Pick 1 if the draft was tomorrow.
They may not be able to commit to Rodan due to a lack of points available.

Long way out, but there is potential for the rule changes to actually benefit us when it comes to Tevita.

Obviously it's so hard to tell this far out where each player will go, but it might almost be smart strategy to encourage Rodan to nominate Essendon.

Under the proposed changes matching 2 first round picks will almost be impossible, and 3 is just not even worth contemplating. That's before you factor in the added difficulty factor of Tasmania holding half of the relevant picks.

Our best bet is to have a big Vic club in the same predicament. If Essendon have 2 top prospects in 2027 then they are in the same boat as us. Whereas Carlton only have to navigate Walker and likely have the picks to get him regardless (even if at a massive premium compared to the past).

I believe we also have Mason Tambe to pick up next year. Don't know where he is projected to be picked, but from the highlights above of Salopek, Roman and Tamve, he looked the most impressive.

I'm hoping he goes under the radar. Need all the points we can get for Zemes, Louis and potentially Tevita if he nominates Port.

I question this. Have they explicitly committed to Port or have they just rejected the Tasmanian offer in favour of being drafted to an established club with better opportunities for success?
They’ve officially rejected the Tasmanians, and of course are on the F/S and NGA pathways available to Port Adelaide. Both have outwardly expressed a desire to play for Port Adelaide, and it would be heartbreaking if another club was to bid/draft them as it would be difficult for them to adjust.

Not at all.

Tassie named 22 x 17 year olds they were interested in. Salopek and Pilot were named in that 22 and said they weren't interested in Tassie. Rodan wasn't in that list of 22 players.

Does Essendon being absoloute dog water make us the favourite?

They have culture problems, why would tevita want to go over there lol, surely come to a club with a good building culture with people who you know and are close too and also your age in doug zemes and salo

Probably has mates within the NGA program over there that could sway his decision.

I think that being pretty tight with the other lads coming over here ( Zemes and Louis ) has more to do with it than anything else.

I’m confident that he’ll end up here and it’s not going to cost much unless he does something really spectacular through the midfield during the championships.

So now the AFL wants to grant clubs who's picks slide down and extra pick at the end of the first round.

Essentially incentivising them to bid on father sons and academies earlier to get the free pick.

Add that to the list of rules that come in just in time to screw Port.

Which part of Zemes Pilot and Louis Salopek have nominated Port Adelaide for the 2027 draft fills you with doubt?:think:

It is actually the dumbest rule I don't understand how it protects the integrity of the draft

That would be the worst rule change the AFL has ever had

The good news is it almost guarantees Richmond/Essendon bid on Walker first, so that Carlton miss out on the extra pick. If thats even how it works.

Lets finish bottom 5

So if:
  • Port finishes bottom 5
  • Walker gets bid on at 1
  • Port's pick gets pushed back, and we get an end of first round pick
  • We match a bid on Cochrane at 2 with 2 FR picks (ours and one from Butters)
  • We still have an EOFR pick, Carlton's 2nd and our second (something like 22, 25, 26) that we can use or trade into next year to stockpile picks for Pilot/Salopek/Rodan

Unknowns: Does our pick only get pushed back if we finish below Carlton? If they finish, say, 15th, and we finish 14th, their pick 4 gets gobbled by the bid. 18th, 17th, 16th get pushed back, but we stay with pick 5?

Edited: only applies to picks 1-5, or positions 18th-14th.

not on the back of his last game, apparently carrying an injury and not his usual self.
