I really hope we go for Crichton if available at 26. I've watched him closely for the majority of the year so perhaps I'm more than a little biased, but I just love the way he attacks the contest with such vigor and ferocity.

just curious Ant, whats your opinion of Callum Bartlett? I've only seen footage of him, but do you think Essendon will look at him with pick 24, 26 or 33?

Exactly what I wrote. As a player he is good, has strong hands, can take a mark. However, for Essendon I am not sure we will get him. He is not a pick 10 player. If we had pick 16, then he'd be a chance. But at 24, he might be gone. Somehwere between 16-23 would be my bet although I do have him going at 33 in my draft.

hi guys, just getting a look at other clubs opinions and choices, u better hope u take kane lucas he is an absolute machine, i want the eagles to take him but would still be happy with jetta, if u have no luck with lucas u need rohan seeing as your forward line will lack given the retirements of 2 of ur best

umm, Neagle, Gumbleton and Still ring a bell. Not to mention the addition of Williams and a host of other options. Don't think key forwards is our most pressing need. But that said, who knows what the club are thinking.

Talia just looks amazing with a very smart football brain and is an ideal CHB in the modern game. He may be able to free up Hurley to play forward. Jnights must really see something in Hurley's defensive ability to play him in defense next year instead of up forward where he dominated. In that case, I believe we will end up going with Lucas if he is available.

In that case, I believe we will end up going with Lucas if he is available.

The way I see it is that there is more faith in the future forwardline that the future backline. Our tall forward options oh Gumbleton, Neagle, Still, Daniher, Laycock, resting ruckman seem better than the backmen options of Pears, Hooker and Daniher. If Tahlia's as good as some say he is then I'd love to have him to free up Hurley in the forwardline, while saying that, if Lucas is there I'd wanna take him.

I did a big write up for the selections I would like to see the bombers look at but the stupid lap top played tricks on me and went back and I lost it all any ways... each player listed is in order of who I would like at that pick, this is my opinion, so dont shoot me down for writing this up.

PICK 10:

Kane Lucas, 188cm, 79kg, Midfielder, East Fremantle

A really, really good outside player who is more than capable in an inside manner. Has really good skills, has good pace and is just a more rounded footballer than what he is given credit for. I think he would be a perfect fit for the EFC at pick 10. Western Australia Representative 2009, AFL-AIS Academy Graduate 2009, All Australian 2009

Ben Cunnington, 186cm, 85kg, Midfielder, Geelong Falcons

A hard nosed inside midfielder who loves the contest. Is very good overhead and loves the physical side of the game. People in the know down at the Falcons glow in praise to the young mans commitment to make it at the highest level. Well worth the chance at pick 10 if available.

Koby Stevens, 187cm, 83kg, Midfielder, Gippsland Power

Another hard at it inside midfielder. Has had some injury issues this year (owing to Osteitis Pubis ) but loves to run, and works the ground well. "Relishes the contest" according to some in the know, and would not be out of place in the starting 18 in round 1, 2010. Victoria Country Representative 2009, AFL-AIS Academ Graduate 2009

Luke Tapscott, 180cm, 86kg, Forward/Midfielder, North Adelaide

One of the best kicks, if not the best kick in the draft. Will start as a small forward, then moving into his preffered role as an inside midfielder later on in his AFL career. Should be able to start season 2010 in the starting 22, and should be able to acquit himself quite well. South Australian Representative 2009, All Australian 2009

PICK 24:

Ryan Bastinac, 183cm, 74kg, Midfielder, Dandenong Stingrays

Ryan had a outstanding year with the Stingrays, finishing up with a near best-on-ground in a losing grand final side. A quality user of the ball off both sides, both by hand, and by foot. He has the footy smarts to play as a small forward, as proven by some quality roving goals during the championships. If he was to fall to pick 24. I would not hesitate in a second to over look the Stingrays Co-Captain. Victoria Country Representative 2009, Dandenong Stingrays Co-Captain 2009

Allen Christenson, 176cm, 75kg, Midfielder/Utility, Geelong Falcons

A real pack-a-punch typle player. Plays a similar game to fellow small man Brent Harvey, does not need alot of the ball to make a major impact on the game. Is capable of playings as a clearance midfielder, or as a small forward. Played this position during the championships (Small Forward) and looked the goods, despite playing as a clearance player with the Falcons, I think he would be a real steal at pick 24 if we could land him, and one, who i think may be a real possibility of landing here. Mitch Duncan, 188cm, 81kg, Forward, East Perth

A hit up forward who has shown that he can play. Duncan is a smart lead up forward who posses' good sound skills off both sides of the body,a good decision maker and a dangerous playmaker who does not need alot of the ball to make an impact. Western Australian Representative 2009, All Australian 2009

PICK 26:

Jordan Gysberts, 188cm, 83kg, Midfielder, Eastern Rangers

Another Eastern Rangers product. A genuine midfielder who loves to bring others into the game. A quality ball user who will rarely fumble under pressure, enjoys going forward and kicking a goal adding to another dimension to Jordan's game. Victoria Metro Representative 2009, 2008/2009 AFL-AIS Academy Graduate

Bradley Sheppard, 186cm, 78kg, Defender, East Fremantle

Smart rebounding defender from WA. Has good footy smarts and is a good quality user of the ball with a 76% efficiency rate at the championships this year. One player who I think could be anything, and one who is well worth the punt.

Jake Melksham, 188cm, 83kg, Midfielder, Eastern Rangers

Inside midfielder who has had an up and down year, a genuine midfielder who is more than adequate in an inside role, or as an outside role. Loves the contest and I would not be shocked to see him gone by this pick. Victoria Metro Representative 2009, AFL-ASI Academy Graduate 2009

PICK 33:

Ryan Hardwood, 184cm, 80kg, Defender/Midfielder, Tassie Marriners

Ryan is an interesting player, showed that he is a quality ball user (proven by coming top 5 at draft camp in the kicking test), whilst also showing that he is a more than capable midfielder (leading the clearances during the championships) and also maintaing a steady base to work with (finishing second in the agility testing). A hard nosed player who enjoys the contest. Would really fit into the atmosphere like the Essendon Football Club. Tasmania Representative 2009, All Australian 2009, AFL-ASI Academy Graduate 2009

Callum Bartlett, 182cm, 82kg, Midfielder, Geelong Falcons

A player that a few people were actually quite excited about seeing him play this year. Bartlett is a strong bodied, powerful left footer, who some have likened to last years bullet left footer, Daniel Rich, in the way he has real penetration in his kicking. Did do his ACL this year, so that may put him back a year, in terms of development, some people think he could be a real steal at pick 33.

Max Gawn, 206cm, 97kg, Ruckmen, Sandringham Dragons

One player who I was hoping to see at the champs but was disapointed when he ruptured his ACL in round 5. Has shown a lot in the time he has had this year, and I personally think the best ruckmen ruckmen in the draft. NOTE: Only go after Max if we get the first choice mids picked in earlier rounds.

ROOKIE PICKS: in no particular order

Roland Ah Chee, 184cm, 80kg, Midfielder, Northern Territory

Not your typical indigenous boy, is not quick or flashy like an Andrew Lovett, but a quality inside, ball winning clearance player who people in the know suggest he was very, very unluck not to be picked in the All Australian side in 2009. Is a solid ball user, without being outstanding, and is good in the clearances. Northern Territory Representative 2009

Levi Casboult, 196cm, 99kg, Forward/Ruckmen, Dandenong Stingrays

Levi is an interesting prosepct. Comes from a soccer background, so is very nimble on his feet, and has a huge leep on him. He used this ideally in the TAC cup where he continually outgunned some of his more fancied opponents. From the first game I saw this year (Irronically was the grand final rematch Vs Murray Bushrangers), Levo dominated. He took numerous contested marks and really shone with his attack on the ball, and then applied second efforts when he did not win out. Shows the kid can also play when you outpoint some quality players in a strong Stingrays lineup by winning their Best & Fairest award, beating the likes of Ryan Bastinac, Dylan Robertson and Tom Scully. Mitch Fisher, 182cm, 83kg, Small Defender, Geelong Falcons

Hard, tough, speedy, these are the words commonly used to descrie Fisher. He has a good well developed body to cope with the rigours of senior footy straight away in season 2010.

George Long, 178cm, 80kg, Small Defender, Port Adelaide Magpies

A strong bodied indigenous boy who was talked about as a draftee as an underage last year. Has not lived up to great heights this year, but is super quick, super tough and has an awesome right boot that kicks the leather a mile. Would love to see this little man on our list in season 2010.

Cameron Milne, 200cm, 97kg, Ruckmen, Tassie Marriners

Cameron has good engine and lead the under 18 hitouts with 122 for the Marriners. He has a good engine, as shown by recording a 14.3 beep test. Is very nimble for a big man and covers the turf really well. A player I like the look of, seems to be able to go ok up forward also. Tasmania Representative 2009

Justin Van Unen, 185cm, 87kg, Defender, Oakleigh Chargers

Showed alot of promise late in the season with a string of 30-plus disposal games. Is a strong and powerfully built kid who loves to run and create off half back. Likes to run and carry, uses the ball ok, but loves to run forward and kick a goal.

Marcus Margliani, 22, y.o, 178cm, ??kg, Midfielder, Frankston Dolphins

Powerfull, strong, ready made inside midfielder who some keen VFL watchers say is "the best player in the VFL". Not a bad wrap for a player who plays in a struggling side. 'Riggers' loves the contest, enjoys breaking lines and years for the chance to play senior football at the highest level after three outstanding season with the Dolphins. VFL team of the year 2009

Broc McCauley, 23 y.o, 200cm, 96kg, Ruckmen, Southport Sharks

Ready made ruckmen who had an outstanding year for the Sharks in the AFLQ state league. Very good tap ruckmen who used his outstanding leap to jump all over ex seasoned AFL players Jeff White and Trent Nobel. Coming from a soccer background Broc has shown to be very nimble on his feet and loves to apply pressure on the ball carrier himself with second and third efforts. Ant, I was wondering if you could give me your thoughts on Jamie Macmillan?

Can not tell you a lot as he did not play in most of the Chargers games i saw.
I saw him early in the year against Rangers and he was pretty good. Nice skills , used the ball ok and his run out of the back half was good.

As far as Vic Metro goes he was not a player you noticed a lot. Pretty sure he only played the 3 games for Metro and i do not remember a lot about him.
He simply wan't a player that i saw a lot of or was really watching.

HFF is ok. I have a chat with him at the Frankston games and somethimes at a Stingrays game.
He does not get out and see all the players but his research is very good. When he mentions a player you will know he has found out a bit on him.

Marigliania is a clearance machine, will always go in for the hard ball and is a pretty good user of the ball. Would like him to go forward and kick more goals, but he does make up for it with goal and score assists.

with west coast likely to get jette, we will definently get one of lucas,melksham,tapscott or stevens. out of all of them, i would rather tapscott but either way we should get a quality player with this pick

Nope. I don't mind Bartlett though, just not sure he'd be the guy I would be PUNTING on. Would ratehr punt on Smith who was elite at his best than take Bartlett who is unknown!

Another reason why I'm not a recruiter, and I don't even know if North grabbing him at 25 is remotely likely but who knows, it's possible someone may even take the risk before us (but it would be a pretty big gamble).

Thats why I asked him to compare Marigliani and Barlow.

HFF should be happy as his love child Alex Silvagni is doing pre season training at Fremantle.

On a related note, while I'm in this thread (and have long wanted Bartlett) I'll say that if no one really slid to #24 (like Christensen) and we thought North was a chance to take Bartlett in between our picks I'd take him at 24. Another reason why I'm not a recruiter, and I don't even know if North grabbing him at 25 is remotely likely but who knows, it's possible someone may even take the risk before us (but it would be a pretty big gamble).

Hardly, the point still stands. He was very good, and I knew this. But like Tom Swift has had a lot of injuries. He is unknown in terms of how he will go at AFL level. The reality is someone will punt on him in the 2nd round, whether that be us, I do not know.
