Unless an exceptional tall slides to us I have no problem with not using any of our picks on a key defender.

There's a good chance of getting 'best available' style talent with all 3 picks and between Delaney (or equivalent if we're gazumped) and another rookie option + Tippett I think there's reasonable depth after Hansen, Grima, Thompson, Spud (pinch-hitting).

I'd always prefer us to go best available rather than reach for a perceived need. If a need is availabe at our pick them kill two birds....if not FA and trade when the time comes.

We absolutely need to nail this draft. We need three quality kids to keep the fire under those in the team and keep the talent pipeline flowing.

I'm not pigeon holing, just looking at what we need. We need some genuine mids with good skills and backmen.

Last thing we want is a Laidley flank-bank.

Was not having a crack at you. Just pointing out that a player's AFL future is not decided by junior coaches. These kids are just putty at the moment waiting to be moulded.

Yep I want us to go best available if there's a clear slider. Duggan or Goddard please.

Seems like there's not much separating a lot of players around our picks so I'm expecting them to factor needs in as well.

KM's PD is up, we're getting:

16. Paul Ahern (Duggan, Weller, Blakeley & Garlett all available)
25. Connor Menadue (McKenzie, DVR both available)
36. Jack Lonie (McDonald, McLean both available)

Obviously we won't use these picks to draft players, but:

56. Clem Smith
74. Francis Watson

Well said. Only two current best 22 players (Atley and Gibson) from the '10-'12 draft period. Obviously '13 has already been great for us and looks promising for the future but if we don't nail these picks we'll soon develop a hole in our age profile.

That's how I'm seeing it. Talent and 'x-factor' more than 'structure' this time around. We're going to need players to replace the sorts of skills and attributes of the likes of Boomer, Wellsy and NDS in future.

Is DVR any good? I've only seen the small highlights snippet from him so far and I must say I was less than impressed. For a supposed "highlights" video, I saw more clangers than anything else.
Not sold so far.

I'll knife someone if Weller is available and we don't pick him.

I would just add....."if we don't nail these picks" and/or Harper ('10), McKenzie ('11), Garner & Wood ('12) don't kick on...

But I do agree that this draft is an important one for the club, especially so as we have 3 excellent picks in what appears to be quite a deep draft pool.

Yes, yes, much kicking on is required.

harper slim chance, mckenzie slim chance, Garner has had a year like delaney, richardson, curran, harper, tarrant, kennedy etc. Wells and Petrie the only two players i can remember who've come back strong after a similar lay off. there's others sure, i just cant think of them right now. Wood is the only one fit and firing. that list of 4 names doesn't fill me with the (false) confidence it once i did unfortunately.

That I agree with. Reminds me big time of Robbie Tarrant in 2007 when he was rated in the late 20 early thirties…we heard the bulldogs were going to pick him so we pulled the trigger with pick 15, despite the highly rated Ward and Taylor being much higher.

Errol, Heaps of Fun and Black2blue make some astute points here given the risks associated with this cohort; on the other hand, Wood promises to be a trump, and the gap is covered to some extent by Luke going straight into the 22, and also the entry from left field by Kane Turner; so reasons for concern, but maybe not panic

Hey guys,

What sorts of players are you looking at taking at 25? Considering we've got the two picks after you it's interesting to see who you might take so I've got a better understanding of who is left for us! Cheers.
Reece McKenzie. Will be better than Boyd in years to come.

KM just took him at 5 in the BF Phantom, he clearly rates the kid very highly. Seems like he's very raw at the moment, spoken like he's a bit of a flat track bully, will be interested to see where he falls. Definitely a good prospect.

What are people's thoughts on using pick 36 on a developing ruck man???? Goldie aside, we have currie, majak, the beast, and brown. Going forward majak would be my choice backup as a pure ruck (if fit) prefer to keep brown fwd. Currie and the beast mature age, there's a limit to how much better they can get and how long the club should keep them as pure insurance. Already enough competition for spots amongst other positions? Only stipulation I'd have is no beanstalk 200 plus cm 80kg blokes. Anyone seen or know anything about kovacevic? 204cm 111kgs, looks a good mark and kick, and mobile for his size by his highlights. Any others? Thoughts??
