I still like the idea of krak up forward as a small forward cleanest player at the club reads it as good as anyone and has the smarts around goal eg kicked wot was it 6 goals for gc in his last year there.

He can also take.a mark in the air or lead if for some reason Dixon etc have lead up ground

Even if it's till we find a young up coming small . forward
I don't disagree that he'd be very good up forward, but geez he's good down back too.

The second clip was an amazing goal.

He really is explosive. When he's doing that sort of stuff five times per game instead of once or twice, people outside the club are going to stand up and take notice. For now, he first needs to cut down his unforced errors, especially when kicking the ball short to the leading forward.

I don't mind trying Krakouer up forward but don't see him as the crumbing type as his cousin was. Think his best position is behind the ball setting up the play ahead.

The second clip was an amazing goal.

God this kid excites me.
His ability to stay calm under pressure and back himself in, along with his kicking showed some nice improvement this year.
If he goes up a gear again next year, he'll be a huge weapon for us.

I don't know enough about the bidding system but are there any academy players that we might be able to pinch if we put our first 2 picks together??

I'm not sure we can put multiple picks together like the Academy teams can.

In any case, its likely no. Sydney will match anything for Mills. GWS will definitely match for both Hopper & Kennedy. Brisbane will definitely match for Hipwood and likely for Keays as well.

With our first pick, I wouldn't mind us bidding on Harrison Himmelberg, whos a 192cm CHF. Great movement, strong grab, decent frame but a less than impressive kick for goal (but with a ball drop that looks fixable). But, it's likely that GWS will match the bid with him also.

Harrison Himmelberg - it's like an each way bet on Raiders of the Lost Ark. ;)

Such poise for one so young, stellar prospects.
His 1st game(pre-season) at Alberton he marked high in front of the Quinn, landed lightly, wheeled around, shimmied, sashayed n
hit FF lace out with a lot of loud:D's watching. A footballer's footballer with smarts n muscles to match and a bit of pizzaz too.

And how Is he different to tapscott
He may not be, but he may be Paul Chapman like. Can a few bad Apples ruin the whole cart? Or can we give a pure footballer and opportunity to thrive in the best AFL environment? Tapscott may have made it if he was with us, not that desolate wasteland...

Twomey rates Ah Chee 17th best prospect in the draft on afl.com.au

Reads as if he may be a bit of a longer term prospect as he needs to build his endurance. Looking a real chance to slide

Seems to be a consensus amongst the phantom drafter's on the subforum. Knightmare and Skippos haven't really been huge wraps for him over the course of this year.

Personally, tend to agree with them - there's a lot of talent there but I think unlocking it all is fairly conditional on finding a role for him which is not an easy task. He is just made up of so many different elements - predominantly a small/medium forward, but when in the forward line coaches try and isolate him as they would a key forward. I think the wing will be where he ends up but so far hasn't had to develop much of a defensive game and whilst he's sharp, his speed is not elite. Another downside is that he just doesn't get that much of the ball.

A real hybrid, which is risky so he will slide a bit, but then you have to take into consideration senior WAFL form (where he was impressive), terrific attitude and character, the whole x-factor thing and a real sense for the occasion. If I was a recruiter I'd be having sleepless nights over him - tricky to assess.

Knightmare has us taking Ben Crocker with our first pick. Seems a realistic option and sounds a likely Port Adelaide type.

From Emma Quayle's Combine Harvester

Ben Crocker (19/02/1997. 185cm, 81kg. Oakleigh Chargers)

Medium forward/defender/midfielder

AFL biography: Medium defender/forward who is a fierce competitor. Outstanding overhead both as a lead up player when forward and in contested situations. Is a versatile player who can go into the midfield to make an impact. Averaged 15.4 possessions, 6.6 handball receives and four marks in five games at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Member of the NAB AFL Academy. Impressed when promoted to play two matches at VFL level with Port Melbourne this year.

"He's a competitor. At the moment he's a forward-mid, and a goalkicker. He's a strong mark for his size, but I think he plays his best footy when he's getting on his bike and not trying to wrestle. I think he could end up playing more as a midfielder, but he needs to tidy up his kicking and concentrate on that first give when he's playing in the middle, not try and do too much. But he's a really good prospect. He's confident, he's got a bit of go about him and a real will to win."

Also around that pick taller running options

James Parsons (12/04/1997. 189cm, 75kg. Eastern Ranges)

Medium midfielder

AFL biography: NAB AFL Academy member who has elite speed. Long kicking is a real feature of his game. His performance against Vic Country in game one was the highlight of his five games at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Averaged 12.8 possessions at 73.4 percent efficiency.

"I reckon James is the sort of kid who might slide a bit in the draft but give it three or four years and everyone will be wondering how he got that far. He's a bit enigmatic: you'll see the best of him for a quarter or a half and think to yourself that if he could show that more consistently he'd be a top five pick. But that's his big challenge, consistency, because he can get a little bit lost at times. He moves beautifully, he has a lot of poise moving through traffic and there's been a few times this year when he's really let himself go and been beautiful to watch. I could see him playing half-forward or on a wing at the next level, but he could also be an attacking defender given the way he can run."

Len Villani, Eastern Ranges talent manager

Mason Redman (26/08/1997. 187cm, 76kg. Glenelg)

Medium forward/midfielder

AFL biography: Classy medium forward who is quick off the mark, a terrific user of the ball and who makes great decisions. Strong overhead and shows real poise around goals. Kicked three goals against Vic Metro in his best performance at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

"He's been a bit of a surprise packet. This time last year he was back in Millicent playing local footy so he's relocated to Adelaide, done year 12 at a new school, gotten into an elite environment and really taken the game on. He plays with intensity, all the time. He doesn't only play with it, he trains with it. He's a high half-forward who could push into the midfield, and he's played a bit of club footy down back as well. He has some good size about him."

Brenton Phillips, SA talent manager

A great number of the players who are being mentioned in the top 30 on afl.com.au would at first sight appear to be out of our range. And while the top 5 players and probably the top 10 will be gone by our pick a lot are being described as in the 15-25 draft range. With our first pick being 32 and with academy bidding a chance to move to 29 or 30, any player 15-25 could slide to us. Riley Bonner, Callum Ah Chee and Luke Partington seem to fit this bill. Bonner would seem the better choice but also seems the one most likely to go earlier.

If we get Bonner, it will be pants down, lap around the table time. He'll go to Hawthorn at the very latest imo.

I think Partington could be there. AhChee may drop after a less than impressive draft combine (to go with his less than impressive champs)

Ok, call me slow, but can someone please explain this to me??? I thought when you had to do this is was as the result of something particularly bad happening to you i.e. losing a game without sinking a ball...

James Fantasia of the Crows once described one of their draft picks who fell to them (may have been Watts?) as 'pants down lap around the table time' as he was expected to go much earlier.

WA captain Greg Clark is another talli midfield option with our first pick. 193 cm 82 kg big tank, running power and a great work and improvement ethic. Sounds like a Burgo love child. ;)
