It's actually amazing that there hasn't been more of a stink from AFL fans in general over the Swans trade ban. Absolutely ludicrous dictatorship that is impacting multiple players and clubs.

Could be horrendously bad this trade period.

Really cannot see it, Hampton is valued too highly for us to be a remote chance.
Do we value Bird highly though?

There's a lot of talk about our KPP in defence (which i agree is a concern) and our Ruck (Which i also agree is a concern) but I also think our pace is a huge concer just as much as the others. Look at hawks - Puopolo, Smith, Bruest, Hill, Birchall, Rioli - all running players. Look at us - Jetta, Rohan, Hannebery, Cunningham, Shaw, Rampe - They're our running players but no where near the quality/damage of the hawks. I think our pace is just as important as a KPP

We have quick players....but it is all well and good being quick but you have to find the ball. Have hopes for Hiscox filling one of those spots anyway. Heeney isn't slow either. I agree we need speed, but we actually need players with good footskills way more. Our midfield butcher the ball, more than most top sides. Ruck is the most critical need though

I don't believe we have quality quick players though... Jetta is so good at times yet so bad and I think Rohan will be but It's a concern ATM IMO. Absolutely agree with the fact we butcher the ball so as you said previously. So why would trading someone like Craig Bird be an issue, Hes 26, slow and goes at an efficency of 69.7%. Mitchell, Jack, Hannebery, Kennedy, Mcveigh, Parker all play midfield and sure he would add depths but I cant see him breaking into the team and adding real value.

How does he help our issues down back or in the ruck...answer he doesn't. Actually would rather Barass. Better prospect with more upside and with McGovern he has someone directly in front. Swans would want your first and push comes to shove that is what will happen. Your first, move on. Simple.
Do you plan on keeping tippet after his contract finishes ? $700000 a year is a lot . McInnes has upside and is a good chop out in the ruck for a good forward who would offer a goal a game . You could even train his as a defender as he has good size and a great field kick . McInness is just stuck behind our plethora of KPP's

Nah, we will trade him on IMO, Nank is his replacement FWD who is ok in ruck. But we need a legit no.1 ruck.

I'd have thought we'd just re-sign him for less money when his current contract ends in 2016. Yeah, he is getting overs at the moment, but ruck-forwards don't grow on trees, trading him would be nuts.

I can't see us going for that type of player. From the Eagles Barrass would be of more interest. We're really looking for ruck/defenders, ideally those who won't take 3-4 years to develop. Unfortunately the overlords have kind of f**ked us (and others) with this trade ban.

Didn't the afl say you would have the trade ban lifted if you gave up you living allowance ?

Don't think we would give up barrass . The kid is way ahead of glass , Mckenzie and McGovern at the same age and still has massive scope to improve .
He had a rare combination of athletic ability , sticky hands , uncompromising 1on1 defender and a flat powerful precise kick . Just need time to develop his body to compete with the big boys . Won't be a finished product for at least a few year . Brown on the other hand will probably be starved for opportunity and ready made

Even without Tippett we have well and truely enough forwards. We need defenders and ideally a genuine first ruck. These pinch hitting rucks don't help we have Nanka for that role.

That's correct, whilst they knew full well that we have contracts in place and legal obligations to pay players. That was the whole reason why COLA was to be phased out over a couple of years - so we could decrease the future payments and eventually end up under the cap.

One of the key tools we could have used to lower our total salary payments was the ability to trade out expensive players and replace them with less expensive players. E.g. trade out a Tippett on $700k and replace with a $450k - $500k replacement, knocking over $200k out of our cap. The Swans knew full well where their cap had to be by the end of 2016, so why restrict their ability to make adjustments?

Basically the AFL could not risk the Victorian backlash if the Swans won another flag before COLA was fully removed. Hence why we can only trade for kids or spuds, and hence why they were so quick to implement the draft points system.

The fact he is a WA boy makes it extremely unlikely that he'd want to go or that you'd contemplate trading him.

Wouldn't nankavis be inline to be your number 1 ruck soon when Pyke retires or will he only be a pinch hitter ?

Nope he is a FWD/Ruck in other words a 2nd ruck. Naismith is the first ruck that we have in the NEAFL but ideally we don't want to rush him.

Also makes other teams tradable commodities void in a trade deal if they were worth good money .
The points system is also going to screw us as WCE about to hit a glut of father sons .

How was I not surprised it came in the year after Collingwood got Darcy Moore....

Can't see why you let Mumford go

Right now I agree, however something had to give with Franklin coming, and before you ask it was a great signing despite losing Mumford. Having Mumford won't necessarily mean a flag especially as he has never played a full season

They did pay fair value for him though . It's not like they got a steal

Hardly. He was easily worth a top 3-4 pick. However that isn't the point the system was fine why did we need to change it!

i was actually surprised the AFl dragged the FS into it at all. i rekon roosey got it right, just put them straight on the list.

The current system was fine so what if you get a steal...you also overpay too it comes out even

Brisbane bid pick 5 for Moore .
If points system was in place
Pick 5 = 1878pts
- 25% discount = 1408 Pts
Collingwood had pick 9 = 1469 Pts
Meaning they wouldn't have had to use their first .
But **** them I hate those flogs
