2nds 2015 VFL List Changes

Ellis actually played for us late last year as TAC Cup 23rd man, when Davoren was busy destroying our list our injury woes hit. Didn't do too bad (obviously the club likes him enough to sign him to the VFL list), but got injured himself against Bendigo, in the same game as Scharenberg went down in...

Welcome to our new acquisitions. We've signed a Bootsma lookalike, which will provide plenty of lols, but the big question is, have we re-signed Josh Turner aka mini-Lingy? :D:drunk:

Yeah I remember Ellis playing for the Bombers against us when they played us at Vic Park(Moore’s Debut) then he played for us the next 3 weeks and he was not bad

Good memory, TD. I'd forgotten about that.

He's on a winning team now. :D

We really needed to sign an experienced mid to replace Suckling and Couch. Disappointing they have missed the boat.

Suckling & Couch hardly played a game all year if my memory serves me correct? They spent a lot of time in rehab so there isn't much to replace.
They will certainly miss Kyle Martin though.

We loaded up on midfielders in the draft and trading period, plus have a few returning from injury plagued 2014s, so guys like Freeman, Oxley, Fasolo, Crisp, De Goey, Maynard, Goodyear, Manteit will all pick up a lot of that slack in the VFL side at times throughout the year, plus we've elevated Jack Blair (brother of Jarryd) to our main VFL list.

If any of those guys are playing senior footy, then you'd think it'd be guys like Josh Thomas, Ben Kennedy, Jarryd Blair, Ben Sinclair etc. that'd be pushed out of the senior side, plus you can expect to see pretty regular appearances from guys like Jackson Ramsey, Sam Dwyer, Paddy Karnezis and Tony Armstrong through our VFL midfield as well.

Replacing two VFL midfielders who barely played any footy for us last year isn't going to be a huge problem.

Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) Collingwood Borthwick, Gus Approved 2015-02-11 2015-02-20

Looking at this list I presume that Gus Borthwick, who appears to be some sort of a schoolboy star ( http://www.mgs.vic.edu.au/news/2014_news_stories/ss_football_tradition.php ), will be with the VFL team in 2015. I don't really understand what the rules for VFL list players at an AFL club are, and why some who have been with the team for a while (e.g. Allan and Hellier) need to be approved.

I think that the more worrying thing is that Manteit's clearance has been cancelled twice :p

I see the Essendon VFL team have signed the likes of James Polkinghorne (Bris) and Jordan Schroder (Geel) to their VFL list. Exactly the experienced midfield types Collingwood needed. Worry about the VFL list manager and what he is thinking.

I'm always keen to see us sign some proven quality types for the VFL team, but it can't be easy to persuade players to join us when they know we'll be putting development first, and that should the senior list have very few injuries (!) they may even miss out on a game.

For Essendon, signing such players this off-season shouldn't have been difficult, with the obvious lure of a last minute call-up to that club's AFL list a distinct possibility. We brought in a couple of ideal types last year in Tom Couch and Mat Suckling, but for whatever reason it did not work out and they have now left the club.

We don’t chase that Type much as IF we had too many they would not play in the VFL

On a related note, Channel 7 has unveiled their VFL commentary team:

JASON Bennett has returned from the US to host Channel 7’s VFL coverage.

Bennett, who has spent the past six years working for ESPN in the States, will team up with former VFL player Nigel Carmody and Hawthorn premiership star Campbell Brown in the commentary box for Seven’s debut as the VFL broadcaster.

Channel 7 has been inundated with resumes since news broke late last year that they were taking over from the ABC.

Bennett worked at Fox Footy and Triple M before taking up his dream position in the States where he hosted the popular program Aussies Abroad which caught up with Australia’s best athletes who were plying their craft overseas.

Always liked Bennett, though I had always secretly hoped Fox Footy would lure him back to replace that log Dwayne Russell. Carmody has been doing a decent job commentating VFL Radio the past few tears, as well as our own radio stream for home games, so he's not a bad pickup either.

Have they announced how many Collingwood VFL games will be televised?

No, that will be determined on a month-by-month basis.

Our first TV game, however, will be in round 2 against the Bombres, so we won't have to wait long for our first televised match.

I imagine we will get more televised games now.

He be pretty good and could be no worse then Majority of AFL Callers.

Though bit of a Downgrade to what he was doing on ESPN.

Good to hear a ex VFL-Pie being a Caller

Why would proven mids sign with the VFL team only to be stuck in the twos all year?
