Well i thought of eight and you said to lower it by one

I also bet your 11 year old isn't 110kg and built like a brick shit house

You couldn't play football and score a 7. It would mean he couldn't run a kilometer in 8 minutes or so.

I would find it hard to control my laughter if they took English at 7 (yes I hope it happens) after they ignored Grundy at 18 or whatever it was

This year they discovered how crap their team is without a 7ft giant stuffing the ball down midfielders throats and want to pre-empt it happening again.

It might take a few years but English will be a hell of a player IMO.

Possesses a lot of the traits that you want as a ruckman - he's undeniably skinny but in terms of coordination, skill, smarts and fitness I think there are plenty of means by which he could succeed even if the bulk required to compete with the likes of Goldstein or Jacobs doesn't materialise.

Freo look set for English so that helps our chances.
GWS may grab Marshall early also. Use 3 on McGrath, 5 from Carlton on Marshall and get their midfielder fix from their academy picks- Setterfield Perryman and Mutch.

I would not have said fitness is one of English's strengths at the moment.

Darcy is the best tap ruckman in the draft but damn kid, get yourself in shape! Weighed in at 110kg at draft combine. Had the biggest skinfolds ever recorded. 2nd worst beep test. He's got talent but he needs to be more than just a fat tall kid.
Sounds like Mick Nolan or Dennis Sasche

There is scope for improvement but according to the combine testing it isn't that bad.

Beep: English (13.4) - better than any of the other rucks tested, Lynch (13.3) and even better than likes of Kerr (13.3), Scrimshaw (12.9) and Scharenberg (12.5)

3km: English (10:55) - well behind Lynch (10:33) but still better than Kerr (11:06), Jarman (11:06), Scrimshaw (11:24) and Sean Darcy (12:02)

English recorded the worst agility time at the combine (9.16).

Where did you get info on the worst? I thought they only released info on the best.

As others have mentioned our first round pick is around the mark where it becomes more even. We potentially miss out on an sps type who if slides will probably go just before our pick. Leaving us with injury prone(venables)/inconsistent-speculative talls (english/marshall (although i think gws will pick up marshall with one of their higher picks)).

So we're left with guys like berry who im warming the idea of picking up. Smashed out most of the combine tests, skippered his state side which shows his quality as a person. Rotham is another more of a jono marsh type imo but might be a reach at 9/10

I wonder if GC would go for AhChee and 9 for 6 which they will probably get for Prestia? We'd promise not to bid on Bowes if he's there at 6 too.

I have liked the stuff I have read about this guy for about 8 weeks, who is expected to go somewhere in the pick 30-60 range

Esava Ratugolea (Murray Bushrangers)
Born: 24.7.1998
Height: 194cm
Weight: 95kg
AFL bio: Tall Forward/ruckman with Fijian background who really caught the eye with his eight-goal performance in the TAC Cup for the Murray Bushrangers in round 10. Included in Vic Country team for final two AFL Under-18 matches and impressed with his strong marking, agility and tackling pressure.

"He's probably our most improved player over the last two years. He played a few games last year but hardly touched the ball. He overcame a knee injury early this year and his work up forward and also in the ruck was quite spectacular at times. He took four or five really superb contested marks in our first final. He's a delightful kid, really engaging and he only started playing footy at 14 so he's on a big upward curve in terms of his development." Lee Fraser, Murray talent manager

I saw the combine results and thought yep a good physical specimen, the Fijian genes, he made 4 top 10's.

I then read this from Knightmare in the phantom draft's board

Are there any KPF (or 3rd tall) prospects who have the ability/desire to chase, tackle and apply pressure once the ball comes to ground?
Esava Ratugolea is the guy. Can't kick. But high flying, strong marking forward who really goes after guys with his tackling and pressuring. Love his intensity and head over the footy mentality. Developable.

Any there any decent athletic undersized ruckmen that a brave club might be able to turn into a KPF available later in the draft?
Esava Ratugolea. With a glut of talented key forwards on that Murray team, Ratugolea while he still gets his forward minutes has played a lot of ruck of late.

He is not tall enough to play ruck, but as a forward having had his 8 goal game earlier this season up forward. He has the talent and is one of those guys with the physical attributes but also the real hunger for the footy and from what I have been told from my contact from Murray he also has the work ethic to go with it
.

Geez the can't kick bit is a worry, but he confirms other stuff I have read about him. I then look at this video and just think - yep can't kick can't play football - at AFL level. We dont seem to have great kicking coaches.

Ratugolea would be 4 years away from being afl compotent imo. Theres tools to work with, but his football iq needs a lot of work.

Also did a worse beep test than Darcy

That "highlights" package looks like a stitch up. Terrible goal kicking, turnovers, taps to opposition advantage, who's putting this shit together?

Surely a guy in the frame to be drafted has better to show than all that.

Agreed, if that's the bloke's highlight package he looks to be a rookie chance at best.
That rather extravagant ball drop, followed up by a helicopter kick wasn't exactly inspiring either.
