No interest in us getting Battle, but I'd be fully in favour of a Marshall + Hayward + best two mids at 30 & 31 strategy. If I was taking Port's picks in this draft, that'd be exactly what I'd do.
I was late following the draft so wasn't sure on the talent available but have gone through majority of this thread since the trade period when our selections were set in stone & i'm leaning towards something like this too if both are available at our picks.

If we can nab one of the best key forwards to develop and a player who's firming for top 15 selection and isn't seen as a bolter that's a win in my books, assuming one of the legit blue chip mids doesn't slide that far & Berry also goes before 17 I like what i've heard about Hayward.

Hayward invited to draft in sydney - tend to be 15 invites so they can announce the top 10 on stage. I wouldnt be suprised if gold coast take a punt on him

Wow. That's very interesting. Can we find out who else is invited?

The danger with the Hayward love is his great form is only against Sanfl colts, not in the u/18 national comp or any Senior comp. Played a good game in the u18 all stars but not in the vein of his u18 Sanfl prelim.

He reminds me so much of GWS's Cameron ... whoever gets him wont be disappointed IMO

Matt Guelfi. Interesting selection on the BF draft.
19 yo WA lad. Never heard of him prior to this selection.

Will be a good player. Very smooth mid with a great kick

Yep, I'll think he'll make it too. Strong bodied, willing worker and his disposal is more than acceptable.

Not a blue chip which is evident by where he's anticipated to go in the draft, but a more than worthy investment once you start getting towards pick 35 and beyond.

I didn't pick Florent with my first pick because I feel like he lacks a real top gear. It seems to me like he just cruises around and almost plays within himself. Seems to lack a bit of intensity and his kicking isn't as good as other mids. Floats in and out of games too.

Really like Cedric Cox but think Simpkin is a similar type but with more midfield scope.
What do you like about Cedric Cox

To be fair I would not be impressed if we took him at pick 80.

Given our propensity to have some trades/draft selections of players no one knows much about at the time (Neade, Howard, Austin, Palmer, Byrne-Jones, Amon, etc) would not surprise if we selected someone late in the draft (like a Jack Henry maybe) and took a punt on them.

We have 7 selections - depending on whether we go with a ratio of senior/rookie lists of 38:6 or 39:5 or 40:4 and assuming we fill all 44 spots (would be pretty dumb not to as we have enough cap room), then we would be selecting a ratio of senior/rookies of either 4:3 or 5:2 or 6:1.

Any DFA's would need to be factored in, although it seems unlikely now that any are being considered, but you never know. So late Draft or rookie selections may be interesting

There's even a delisted free agent's period after the national draft (Friday 25 November) and before the PSD and rookie drafts (Monday 28 November). If a DFA didn't find a home before today, it is unlikely he will find one before the draft. He could always get permission to train with a club looking at him.

So unless someone spots a DFA at training, I assume now we won't be signing one.

Knightmare's list analysis for Port Adelaide.

http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/17958126/knightmares-afl-list-analysis-does-your-club-need

Port Adelaide

List needs

1. Young star key forward - (With Jay Schulz retired, Justin Westhoff 30 and Charlie Dixon 26 but injury-prone, a young star key forward long-term is needed)

2. Ruckman who can succeed Patrick Ryder and Matthew Lobbe - (with Ryder 28, having missed the 2016 season and Lobbe 27 performing below expectation -- the developing Billy Frampton is the club's only other ruckman -- someone who can provide immediate depth and potentially be there long-term is advised)

3. Young star midfielders - (Ollie Wines is a gun but with Travis Boak and Robbie Gray both 28, Port Adelaide need to find some star midfielders for the future)

4. Running outside midfielders who find enough of the ball and use it efficiently - (the injury-prone Hamish Hartlett needs more help and an eventual successor)

5. Crumbing small forward who can kick 30+ goals in a season and heap on the forward pressure - (Angus Monfries will be welcomed back in 2017 but a longer-term star crumbing forward is another missing element)

Draft picks: 14, 17, 30, 31, 85, 103, 121, 139

Who should they draft?

Todd Marshall, if there at 14, may be the young key forward needed. Failing Marshall being there, Brett Eddy as a rookie could be an appropriate stop-gap who is good enough to step up and play at AFL level as required.

At 14 or 17, Jy Simpkin as a ball-using outside player could be a fit.

As developable midfielders with some star qualities, Daniel Venables and Sam Powell-Pepper may be two worth consideration at 14 or 17.

Port Adelaide in the rookie draft would also be advised to take one of Rowan Marshall, Darcy Cameron or Oscar McInerney to add to the club's ruck stocks.

As small forwards, late draft or as rookies, Tyson Stengle, Kym LeBois, Sam Fowler, Dan Allsop, Kyle Kirby and Willie Rioli are some names who may be considered.

Starting to feel excited about picking up Marshall, how often will we get the chance to pick up the "best forward" in the draft. For those in the know, if we look at last years first round picks, how would Marshall rate against talls Wiedeman (Pick 9), McKay (pick 10), Hipwood (pick 14) and Himmelberg (16)?

Great question re last years picks.
Think the last best KPF in the draft we selected was Jesus of Mafra.

I think Marshall has more upside than all except Hipwood, but i feel mckay will be better and he'll be on a par with weidemann

Draft board saying Marshall not invited to draft night, usually 15 are invited. Also saying we're into Battle.

Marshall is a weird feeling. Not what we went into the draft for, I was thinking it's all about the midfield but we couldn't let him slip by if he happened to be there. Maybe costs us a really nice midfield player though that could add value sooner.

Does user who posted battle have any legitimacy behind him? I wouldnt mind battle at 17 if hayward and marshall are gone even if its a reach
