You really think they will make that call? We are too nice to put the club's performance ahead of feelings (e.g Shaw over Scharenberg on the rookie list)
There is a significant difference between a "hard" call and a callous call.....not one of your smarter posts given the current concerns in the AFL and all sports with the ongoing effects of concussions later in life..

So you are suggesting they didnt even look at s/berg? Or that no other rookie was worth taking?

Seeing as our 3 rookie picks were Shaw, pass, Jarman in that order, that's exactly what happened. If they'd wanted Scharenberg or another rookie they would have got them.

I'm not a Sturt follower but would be interested to know how slimming is travelling he's looked good what I have seen both him and sharenberg look like they are playing pretty good in the sanfl unfortunately better than our draftees

Problem they only had 2 picks due to their list #s

Apparently neither were worth looking at:wink:

You would think Hampton will take Mackays spot

He's listed as 6-8 weeks. So that's back playing SANFL by R21-23. He'll need to play at least a couple of games of SANFL before coming back in. So, if everything goes as good as expected he'll be lucky to be available for selection in the AFL team by the first round of the finals.

Do you really think the selectors are going to pick a player for their first ever final off the back of being injured for the better part of 3 months?

You really think they're going to keep 3 of the same type of player (defender) on our list?
Cheney, Kelly, Doedee.
Pointless exercise, need to make the call. Both those two are out of contract iirc.

Why wouldn't they keep them on the list? Probably draft another with our 1st round draft pick too :D

We already have an "Injuries" thread focusing on our players and their injuries sustained during games. I thought it might be a worthwhile thing to discuss players sustaining injuries or health conditions off-field.
The format is both a news update for the general Crows fans, as well as brief discussions on relevant conditions whenever they occur.

Viral Meningitis (eg. Tom Lynch)
What is it? - A viral condition which attacks the covering layer of the brain, causing inflammation.

Symptoms?
- Headaches, drowsiness
- sensitive to light
- neck stiffness
- fevers
- nausea/vomiting
- general weakness; joint aches

This thread is not hopefully to scare people, but hopefully gives more insight into players conditions (not during games), and perhaps raise more health awareness. Anyone who has ever suffered from conditions on this thread, feel free to share your experiences or some important relevant points.

Apron Strings ( Jack Gunston)

What is it? - An inability to be separated from mummy for three football seasons

Symptoms

-Unable to sign contract extensions
-Checking flight schedules
-Wanting to be tucked in
-Wanting home cooked dinners
-Constantly saying " that's not how my mum would do it"
-List Oedipus as a role model

EVEN? He should have been gone last year. He is fast becoming the next Brodie Martin. We will give him a 1 year contract purely because he was injured this year. He will be what, 10 games in 6 years. FFS. If you haven't made it in 5 years as a mid, it's time to go

I agree we need to free up cap space. Better to play with 38 higher level than 40 at a lower level

I figure CEY will be delisted and then rookie listed (assuming the rookie list exists in 2018).

Wow mate, you're really on the ball! :)
I guess I was talking more this current year, but if you want to get details of past player's conditions, then sure, I can sort things out when time permits.
It was a seminal moment in our history!

Yes. There was talk at the time how unfortunate it was that he'd be just returning to training as the finals started, which could see it basically be a season-ending injury.

Hartigan out for another few weeks will create some interesting selection questions. I like Otten, but do we give Doedee a chance at some point? Will Cheney get back in time to have a go in the spot? And, God forbid, if we have an injury either down back or up forward (so Otten moves forward), the door will be right open for someone to come in.
