I reckon Freo will go the home grown talent in Naughton at 5. So I'm happy to go one of highly rated mid prospects like LDU/Coffield/Cerra/Stephenson/Dow who may slip down to 6.(Fallen out of love with Fogarty again)

Just really hope that one of either Petty or Clavarino are still there at 38, as I really rate either as much more than just speculative options to fill Kpp posts.

I'd wonder whether Nick Shipley is a lock to be nominated as a GWS academy pick. If not I'd be keen to use a late pick on him to go with Tyler Brown. He just seems to have time and balance that will only improve in an Afl environment.

I got this impression last year that Tim English was lacking a bit between the ears. Was being touted (mainly by Twomey, mind you) as a top ten pick. Went through to pick 19.

Not sure I want Balta anymore! Haha

I'll be surprised if Balta goes inside the top 10. He really is in that 11th to 18th range imo. Maybe 10th.

Has a lot of scope due to athletically fitting the bill but is a lower production tall. Whether he can develop the footy iq and play reading ability to improve his numbers is what the question is.

Why the lack of love on Fogarty?

You realise prior to his knee injury was universally talked about as the potential pick 1? He dominated an early season rep game vs peers. Got experience in SANFL midfield, fwd and back as a 17 year old and showed good signs.

Pros.

Powerful mid/fwd, break from congestion.
55m kick and is accurate on both sides.
Physical.
Decent speed.
Good hands.
Versatile. A player who can be relied upon yto impact the game up forward, down back and through the midfield. And I'm not talking Goldsack versatile more Pavlich versatile.
Reads the game well and makes good decisions with the ball.

Honestly the more I think about it the more I want us to select him.

I honestly can’t fathom how Balta could be considered a low production tall when he’s averaged 15 disposals, 4.3 marks, 12 hitouts and kicked 12 goals from 13 TAC games playing on every area of the ground. Surely being given a fixed position would see a steady rise in numbers relevant to his role.

I was all over Fogarty until Bishop recently talked him down. Now I'm not so sure.

Maybe he's doing a Robbo, (with Stringer) and trying to reduce his value.

He played quite a lot of his TAC games forward and ruck for 12 goals from 15 in tac. Even if he played 5 games in def that is still only a 1.2 goals ave. Maybe I should re-word it to low goal production and also ave amount of marks 4.3 marks is not a lot.

Also what were his champ averages playing in defence? I don't recall him racking them up at CHB.

If the AFL was serious about the development of youngsters in Tac Cup then coaches should be of AFL standard.. seriously.. Schache went at pick 2.. why? Cause he was given a paddock to do as he feels at tac cup level. The bloke plays afl.. and looks like a peanut.

The game plans employed at tac should be a lot more similar to AFL. Gives scouts a better gauge of who the real talents are.. and better prepares these youngsters when transitioning from tac to AFL.

The question marks have come after a poor champs and average form in the last rounds of the sanfl (as big as he looks it is still a demanding comp for a 17 year old non hardened body), where he also tore his meniscus and then tried to play through it.

In u18s Schache sometimes had players who were 189cm as his opponent despite him being 200cm+. Then wonder why he outreached them..

He apparently had free reign in the 50.. then got f in the AFL. Perhaps he didn't work hard enough.. or perhaps he just thought 'how ****ing easy is this'.. then got maulled.

I'm thinking the latter.. but doesn't excuse the AFL from not investing enough in Tac cup.. they should be. Better quality coming through and readily available come round one.. not f 3 yrs at vfl f level.

Oh ok.. makes some sense.. but not entirely. So these blokes get drafted in November.. so far behind in their preparation.. it's a wonder how some of em play first round. F me

Apparently parents were complaining that the hype around the draft interfered with the pressures of the exams at the time it was previously held.

I'd been uniterested until I read 'break from congestion'. For some reason I'd pictured him as a big brute without an explosive step - eg. a bigger more skillful version of Danny Stanley

My understanding is that the AFL have actually asked the TAC Cup to have the zoning rules and a limit to tagging, because they want to better see who can win contests.

I wouldn’t call Fogarty explosive from congestion tbh, but his attack on the ball is something else. I’d back him to get the ball in any 1v1 contest.

Just trying to picture who you'd compare him to. Pavlich? Does he play that tall?

He can play tall, absolutely. Pavlich is probably a good comparison. Can play as an undersized KPP or a big bodied mid. If we were to draft him I’d imagine he’d probably take the same path as JDG, starting forward and then moving in to the midfield in 2-3 years, but I’d expect him to perform better as a forward than JDG, who’s a more natural mid imo. Stringer is a good comparison as a forward too I reckon.

A player that can kick well plus 55 meters.

Salivate time.

Whatever happened to those?

Buckley, Rocco x 2...,

I think Coffield could become elite

He could, but I'm not as confident in his performances on the board. Has the attributes, but his contested stuff and overall numbers is still a slight ? for me.

Pick 6 is a no for me. As with the KPPs, there is an element of uncertainty with Coffield, so I'd go tall if my four favs (Rayner/LDU/Cerra/Dow) have all been taken.

Stringer's pretty bloody explosive.
