I reckon the selection (or non selection) of Naughton if he is available will tell us a fair bit about the impact Gubby had on our list structure planning end of 2016.

We basically cleared out the defenders with poor disposal last year. Frost, Brown and Marley all effectively punted or let go. I actually didn’t mind the decision making, as it signalled to me they weren’t going to tolerate turnover merchants or poor users as you need to be able to move it fast and effective before the opposition sets up their defensive zone. Although it left us so thin we had to get guys like Schade to fill some holes. You still need stoppers, but the days of carrying a Presti or a N. Brown were gone because the speed of the game meant you couldn’t transition through those guys and it slowed you down.

If they go for Naughton - that says to me Gubby was the driving influence for that approach. That’s if his kicking is as big a liability as it appears.

You will always need stoppers. All the good teams have them and then surround them with speed and good users. We got rid of the stoppers and the speed and we haven't developed any good users, infact who have we developed ? We will be bottom four for several years to come

1) No-one wants to come to us anymore understandably
2) We are terrible at trading. The Murray trade a prime example
3) We have failed to develop young talent
4) We have failed to find gems in the draft
5) Our key defensive players are all older with little to no back-up
6) our injury management would be one of the worst of all teams
7) don't get me started on the coach

There is nothing exciting to look forward to we are a rabble of a club

I’ll be happy with whoever we pick at 6. Apart from Freeman, we’ve walked away pretty happy with our top 10 picks
Please De Goey the only one with something. The jury is still out on Scharenberg, we've traded away the rest in Buckley's time.
Freeman a FAIL. Compare them to Bontempelli. Infact this article show best of 2013.

ZACH MERRETT Essendon (No.26)
No.1 in AFL for metres gained this season, averaging 599 per game. Leather-poisoning Don the fans love.
PATRICK CRIPPS Carlton (No.13)

Contested midfield beast who was a surprisingly early pick at 13 on draft night.

JAYDEN HUNT Melbourne (No.57)

Searing pace and symbolic of the new Melbourne — shrewd recruiting polished with diligent development.

ORAZIO FANTASIA Essendon (No.55)

Genuine A-grade small forward who has four bags of three goals or more this season (Bombers have won each of those games).

MATT CROUCH Adelaide (No.23)

Ball magnet. Averaging 32.5 disposals per game — No.3 in the AFL.

TOM BOYD GWS/Western Bulldogs (No.1)

Critics will disagree, but most can only dream of a Norm Smith Medal-worthy performance in a premiership.

RORY LOBB GWS (No.29)

No.3 for contested marks among forwards. Kicked three goals in a preliminary final.

BEN BROWN North Melbourne (No.47)

Plucked from North’s VFL affiliate with supposedly dodgy ankles. Clean mark and reliable set-shot.

Pendles and Thomas, Reid and Brown that was another time

There are glass half full people. There are glass half empty people. And there are those who want to smash the glass and stab people with the shards.

You need stoppers, but if they they can’t contribute to transition they are a liability.

That’s why the got rid of Brown, Frost and Marley.

Rather than address your others points, let’s just say we agree improvements in many areas but no reason to think it’s time to shut up shop just yet!

Naughton doesn't have a Lever physique. Looks like he's built like a young Jeremy macgovern.
Tomato tomatoe, the big heavy guys have to be spectacular now because it's all about ball movement, Naughton Lever types (those that intercept especially like these two) leave them for dead

Naughton is more Astbury (v underrated I 'll admit) than Rance though, which I dont think is worth pick 6.

& he def isnt a Dustin Martin...
Well you'll be hoping Cerra falls then if North and Freo are really taking Stephenson and Naughton, he's a very long shot at that type of quality, not the quickest though, but evidently elite at delivering inside 50

It's more that the players outside the top 30 are hit and miss. There's nothing there too much that you'd go on and think "with the right development they could really become a star", it's kind of a theme with this draft. Players might be solid down the track but very few I think will become say top 5-10 at a club.

That still leaves 12-17 places they can fill in the 22. Be very happy to walk away with a couple of longer term best 22 players late in this draft.

Christ you've jumped ship completely.....think you'll find that things aren't as bad as your making out and it's good to see Bucks and the club putting faith into the development and improvement of our young list.....bottom 4 you say, care to have a wager that we don't finish bottom 4 next year bud......I mean if ya gunna dig the heels into the club like this then maybe put ya money where mouth is......cause although I'm optimistic I reckon we can push for the 8 next year, just need a few things to go our way.......Christ look at Richmond, there nothing special and look what they did!!

Finally watched Rayner's highlights. Hadn't watched them as you'd expect he'll be long gone come our pick, but gee he has some moves.

On another note... LDU underwhelming IMO. Constable terrible. Even Cerra wasn't anything special.

I may as well start doing my own phantom based solely on 2 minute YouTube clips!

Haha it's funny you say this cause I only watched Cerra's highlights for the first time today as I hadn't factored him into our pick and I wasn't overawed with that much excitement when I did......I expected a bit more "wow" factor about him but in saying that he does appear to have excellent skills.

Although I wouldn't be disappointed if we did take him, to me I reckon outside of the need for KP players, there's still other areas we have more of a need for than another midfielder.....I mean Pendles ain't pulling the pin in the next 2 years so in 2019/20 we should target midfielders to replace him and Sidey. But pace and skill off HB and another 3rd tall who can play through the midfield and has flexibility, which Coffield and Fogarty for me full into these categories. Watching the highlights of these 2 to me stands out with a bit of that "wow" type factor.

Coffield is Pendles like and there's a bit of De Goey about Fogarty although Fog looks like he plays more of a taller fwd and with him I reckon it'd release Jordy into the midfield more.....whilst he developed his art up fwd.

But that's the problem with 2 minute video clips....you don't always see the whole picture and attributes of a player.

I think you need to find yourself some 5 minute YouTube clips then. They're 150% more reliable.

Maybe time for a new team or even a new sport, I'm sticking with us, I think there is plenty to work with, a few holes but I think there is enough talent on our list. Commitment and application

Has Emma Quayle made any comment on the draft? She normally gives good mail
I was going to say she’s a recruiter for GWS now, but too late...

It does depend on the context. In terms of receiving word on potential draftees its spew worthy, but in the context of a competitor having someone on their recruiting team I’m happy with it. Quayle is a fantastic journalist whereas her talent ID is more up in the air.

Think Twomey his phantoms are garbage until a fortnight out when the recruiters start speaking to the press about who other clubs like. Another example would be Snoop or Knight if you gave me the choice of two of those three on our recruiting team I’d have the BF “experts” ahead of Quayle.

Quayle is clearly better than Twomey, IMO, but good enough to be on a clubs recruiting team?I’m not as sure which is why I’m glad another club brought her on board. At the end of the day it’s about the best interests of the club not ours.

Oh absolutely, traditionally your tomato is much smaller and rounder than your garden variety tomatoe

Who's worrying about Tomato's? Every time you've made a post in the last 48 hours I can't help but think about melons and coconuts! Can't work out why

2 we don’t need are Ceres and Hayes as we have Rucks and inside mids

I don't think Cerra will make it to us because North Melbourne and Fremantle are in need of mids. but if he did slide to us it would be pretty hard to refuse I would've thought.

I agree it's an oversupply of mids, but it's a pretty weak draft with not a lot on offer that actually fills our key position needs. So I reckon the club would probably take him. Would cause a bit of controversy though.
