Here is a little bit of a reminder as to why Joe Daniher to the Swans is very real.

"Anthony was also the brother-in-law of Morwood, making him the perfect person to lead the charge in trying to recruit the highly-touted youngster.
“We had a fair dinkum go (at getting Joe Daniher to Sydney),” Morwood told SEN’s This is Your Sporting Life thanks to Tobin Brothers – celebrating lives.
“I took him to Sydney every month for a year.
“I had him staying at (Adam) Goodes’ place, (Paul) Roos’ place, out for dinner, all of those things.
“The Daniher name and synergies with Essendon are quite strong, but Anthony and his wife have strong friendships with the Swans through me and other people.
“It wasn’t an easy decision for Joe and I can understand how that happened.
“With due diligence Kinnear Beatson and Paul Roos and myself, we would do everything we could to make sure we ticked every box that if Joe made the decision to go to Essendon, we had done everything possible to make sure he made the right call.
We made him an attractive offer and there was a lot of benefits.”

“I think none of us ever thought he would come to the Swans, they’d appointed James Hird, and so before they’d appointed Hird I thought we were a slim chance, but the day the messiah was appointed the next day he dropped around to see Joe and I thought we’re no hope,” Morwood said.

I hope this makes all feel a little more confident that either this trade period or next, Joe will be a Swan.

If Daniher says no and Paps leaves and then we went to the draft and walk away with Kemp and Ash or something like that it puts is in a very strong position.

Wont help our 2020 but will help our next decade.
Would think we’d have two potentially good draftees, rather than only one if Papley was to leave but you never know what Sydney has up its sleeves.

Hi team, I don’t post much but read every day as I raise my two infant cygnets. It’s a great comfort to know there are others out there that feel as intensely about the Bloods as I do. I love all your posts, even the ridiculous crazy ones I vehemently disagree with. I also love so much how you all close ranks when an outsider (usually a bomber or blue supporter) gets too chirpy. Also a shout out of mick oxlong who enables me to read telegraph and sun articles

Any way it’s a hypothetical trade thread so here we go. I notice we have a much more respectful and productive relationship with the Giants than other two town clubs. With that in mind tell me if this strategy would have any legs at the trade table, or at any time right up until draft night: Giants don’t want to waste their first pic on Tom Green this year and 2020 Swans don’t want to waste the first pic on Campbell and/or Gulden. Could we consider asking for the Giants first pic (the bombers pick 11, ultimately will become pick 13) for our first pick next year, of course with an exchange of later picks. Points don’t matter to us this year but they do next year and vice versa for the Giants. Would either club consider this?

Biggest issue I think is we tank next year - but I see us back in finals, maybe even at the big dance (there I said it ...hopefully the first of many as the next 12 months unfold)

Nice. Where can we find the stats for the game?
No idea. There is an article about the game on afl.com.au Campbell only had 14 disposals with 3 goals but every time he got it he used it brilliantly. Long left footer. Gulden had 19 with 1 goal.

Think it will be decreased sadly
Seeing as all clubs now have access via zones/academies/father sons it seems counter productive to reduce the incentives.
Surely the AFL has to realise that kids in the northern states need to make a decision when around 14/15 as to whether they want to play AFL or rugby. If they can be given a 90% probability of staying home by choosing AFL and being a part of an academy program, it can only be good for the AFL.
It's time the AFL started to run their own competition rather than allowing the likes of Eddie (the mouth) controlling it.

The discount does not need to be increased on these top prospects, clubs are going to draft them anyway and you all know it! I'd like to see the discount decreased for first round picks, and increased for 3rd+ round picks to give an incentive to list those players

Can’t believe we got a discount for Hiscox!

Its all well and good saying that but unless you have a crystal ball that will give you a summation of the next decade it may well not be the case. Who's to Say Kemp and Ash will make it at the level and if they do how good will they actually be ? How good will our current crop of young talent be over the next decade ? You have to trade and draft for where your list is now. The current status of our list says you cannot lose good experienced well developed players like Jones and Papley and bring in kids just out of short pants. You lose them 2 you need to bring their equals or better or you have taken 1 step forward 3 steps back. The club know best where this current list is at but losing experience and bringing in inexperience and hoping it turns out for the best is not always right for the present.
