I agree with you, Jed is certainly fourth in the pecking order. Equally, there is something to be said about having a good rotation of players through the centre circle.
Used to pull my hair out at Brad putting the same three in there at the start of quarters and after every goal.
If the Constable news is true, I wouldn't mind seeing:
- A Rotation: Cunners, Jed, Jy
- B Rotation: LDU, Constable, Bonar
B Rotation has a heap of chemistry from their Haileybury days and I am bullish on Bonar (acknowledge that this is slightly unpopular).
Not to mention that after centre bounces, you see a heap more people around the ball for clearances anyway.
I should also highlight that this is partly why I think we could afford to be more aggressive with moving on someone like Dumont.
You definitely need a much broader group of mids than just 3, obviously, chemistry and synergy is important as well. You have 2 followers, one in the middle, two wingmen, at least three on the PINE and you have probably at least two of the forwards who are quasi-midfielders, ie we may have Thomas, Scott, Taylor, etc who will rotate through the middle.
Then you will need extra players pushing up from the VFL, you would hope most of the AFL listed VFL crew will be young draftees.
I think we will still draft 3 or 4 mids/running players from the draft, depending what we can do during this trade/free agency period.
If Geelong do not want Constable and he would be someone you can get with a later pick then I don't really mind, I would hope we do something a lot better out of the Higgins trade. I wouldn't try and combine them because that would de-value what we could possibly get for Higgins. I would look at Constable later on but if he wanted to go somewhere where he would be playing seniors in 2021, then North probably isn't it. I think even Bonar is going to struggle for a spot in the seniors without us having horrific injuries.
