Lincoln a Republican did indeed free the slaves and the Democrats certainly had some dodgy ideas back then. However, the Civil War ended in 1865 and both parties have evolved in that time, as a contemporary argument it's about as useful as the one that suggests Nazis were lefties because the word socialist is in their title.

The video discusses exactly how the two parties have evolved in that time to where they are today. The Nazi's were in many respects left wing, just as they were right wing in many respects. Politics are not one dimensional, and neither are people or parties

problem is its not a one axis matrix, needs to have about 4, but that means making a discussion more complex that "you left or you right?"

Given the current polling, it seems likely the voting public don't believe this about Biden for a moment. Biden's been in the spotlight for 40 years, running for president 3 times and acting as VP for 8. The public knows him, which is why this isn't working.

The same would likely not have been true for Sanders, where they could have posted his own videos and statements that could have been spun incredibly badly. Just because Republicans would have said it equally about Biden and Sanders doesn't mean it would have had the same effects.
