Maybe the list managers think the upside for the squad from getting rid of ladhams as well as the upside from the player we get in balances out the losses seen by trading him
What upside from getting rid of Ladhams?

If he was remotely detrimental to the team we wouldn’t have been playing him.

Plus there’s no evidence at all that he is anything more than a player who occasionally needed a prodding.

I think it’s clear that we had 3 ready rucks, and I think it’s clear that port chose Ladhams as the one who was most expendable.

The only upside really is that we may be able to keep Hayes where as with keeping Ladhams we may not have, but all we have is guesswork and we will never know.

There is no reality where you could convince me we made a good trade.

the only way the ones responsible don’t look like they made a massive **** up is if Parker absolutely knocks that draft selection out of the park. Which is a position we shouldn’t be in.

I remember hearing some whispers early that we were pretty into Draper. And also whispers more recently that we like NWM. It would make reasonable sense that moving up the order is potentially to be in reach of those two. Although I think that would be a bit dumb - I don't think either player really suits us, the only thing they have going for them is that they are from SA. That being said, we don't really have a history of targeting locals like Adelaide.

It's just an absolute lucky dip this year with the lack of championships. A guy like Sonsie could of played in the championships and dominated, or he could of done nothing. The fact that it is so uncertain makes the pick upgrade pretty shit imo. The ideal circumstance is to have multiple picks around the last first round/early second round.

I reckon NWM and Draper are a smokescreen for our targets of Sinn or Sonsie.

i thnk we were playing him cos he was the most ready person for the role in the moment. Now the club clearly sees that Hayes is ready and Ladhams was surplus to requirements.

The yearly Draft is one of hope, but building a list is incremental built over a period of years. So how much can a teams performance for the next season come from the current draft. For port pick 12 probably not a lot. Just maybe say 10 games for the year and learning the afl structures etc. So improvement can come and we have the young players with growth as davies has highlighted. So that is the hope.

Wanganeen-Milera reminds me of Nathan Krakouer

I really don't want us using pick 12 (14) on sonsie. He looks like a second rounder. I wouldnt have sonsie or draper in the big 17. It looks more like a big 15.
What makes him look like a second rounder ? Quick goal kicking mid who can play fwd. has all the attributes to be a star at AFL level

I watched the NAB afl academy all stars game v geelong vfl and paid more attention to sonsie than most players. He was playing mid field and was pretty poor. Didn't win clearances, run hard, tackle, squibbed one mark and his disposal wasn't very damaging.

All the other players in the top bracket looked a long way ahead of him. (JHF, Daicos, Johnson, Rachele, Callaghan, Gibcus, Erasmus, Andrew) NWM didn't have a great role and wasn't involved much, plus being very skinny makes him a bit of a risk.

NWM seems to just create time and space around himself, thinks through his options then hits targets.

Saw him play in the last minor round game and he looked composed and threatening when he had the ball.

Sounds like someone who can kick a football and that’s the sort of player we should be targeting.
Unfortunately good kicking skills have dropped down the order over the years with more importance being placed athletic ability.

Run hardery cant kickery

A Nathan Krakouer with work ethic would be a star.
Still remember seeing him play in our now defunct 3rd tier Academy side, thinking wtf is this guy doing at this level. Before you know it, he managed to go up 2 levels to the AFL.

Moving up is one thing

Giving up a 1st 22 23yr old tall player to climb up 4 spots to a pick is another.

Odds are against our recruiter picking up a clearly better player than Ladhams at 12.

The odds that our recruiter picks up a better player than Ladhams and the player we would have taken at 16 is pretty long.

It’s now up to Parker to save our list management teams asses… yet again.

As if anyone is genuinely upset about losing ladhams for a pick upgrade in the first round.

We need more clean kickers going forward…

Lack of polish going forward is what lost the PF in the 2020, and it got worse last year. Surely NWM has to be close to top of the list.

I am stoked. Doing the same thing again in 2022 is just insanity. Hayes now becoming second fiddle is a big move, and it changes the dynamics of the side. We just need to get rid of the biggest d!ckhead now ... Kenny, and we will be set!

dunno how Hayes fits yet unless he comes in for Lycett.
Finlayson seems to be the in for ladhams. so not major change at all

Ronald Fejo Jr has an incredible highlights reel from playing reserves for West Adelaide this year. I think he's 19 from Northern Territory. Played a couple of league games. Great movement and disposal. He's got to be worth one of our hail mary picks.
