The same club that president is in charge of was talking top 4 8 months ago.

things happen. Things change.

if Dunstan goes you probably complain that the replacement is Matt Crouch or Brodie

the key thing is not reducing our options because we cut fat.
Billings and Dunstan are over paid fat. Ross craps on both with what he has achieved here and is the forum whipping boy. If Ross left most wouldn’t bat an eye lid.

So you are saying the President overrated us and now doesn't believe what he says?

I have no problem if you replace players with players but Brodie and Crouch would be on similar wages to Dunstan. Brodie would be at least young enough and has some scope to improve but we probably go backwards in the short term. If we rely on the forum for lists assessment we are in a lot of trouble.

I am saying what might have been relevant information then isn’t relevant now.

i.e Ross staying and nowtesting the market. Etc

This cutting the fat to create all these options in the future is just setting ourselves up to sit in no mans land for a few years and hope this fantasy world being created where Ben King spends all his time just pining to join St Kilda is actually real. It's better to have 1 strong, clear path that moves the list forward than constantly move backwards to create a lot of different paths of improvement that never actually eventuate.

We've spent the past 2 years committing to improving the list now and moving up the ladder now. You dont change that approach and blow everything up because of one underwhelming year.

If we replaced Dunstan and Ross and Billings with good players or high draft picks that are usable, then we've at least tried to improve the list and haven't just decided to go backwards again. What is not good list management is getting rid of them all then acting as if the picks in the 30s and 50s that would replace them are some amazing return thats going to set us up for the next 10 years.

Yeah , better than falling into the 8 and getting rolled thinking we will be better next year and it turns out like this year , Simple facts we are not good enough ATM , something has to change
Once you make the 8. Your generally rolling with that core group. Very hard to change that.
So instead of rolling the dice and taking a player like Schlensog in the MSD this year, we keep a list spot open for Gears?

Boo.
Yeah , makes perfect sense doesn't it , The club needs to grow a set
I don’t think Geary signing on effects what we do with the spot earmarked for a key back on the list.

Well if they grew a set and they took Schlong, they would have the complete package 😉

Dunstan Ross and Billings isn’t blowing up the list. They aren’t even in the core going forward.

May not but he is still taking a spot and cash , time for him to move on ,, sorry gears

We will already need to be replacing about 8 players from standard delistments. Letting 3 more walk for crap returns - 2 who are still clear best 22 - is blowing a pretty big hole in the list.

How are we replacing 11 players with 2 picks in the top 40?

They had better not **** this up or they'll make it so we don't need a core. If it's one asterisk finals series in 15 years there isn't going to be a club eventually. Covid will make the AFL a lot less sentimental. I just hope if they **** this up the AFL send in some external administrators to save us and not send us off to Tassie.

Retaining Geary is absolutely fine. We've got a lot of player movement anticipated as it, I'm fine with keeping him on the list for another 12 months and be a depth player for us. It's better than some of the alternatives we've had this
So long as we clean out the list otherwise (which I'm sure we'll do, despite needing to stick with Hanners), I'm with you. Stability (esp. if Ross/Bill/Dun leave), depth (lockdown smallish defenders aren't something we have a wealth of) and driving standards on the track, leading by example, taking a low salary so we can spend the money elsewhere. With Paton coming back and Sincs back there I can't imagine anyone has told him he'll be in the 22 going forward.

Speaking of down back, the move worked in terms of getting the ball into Hill's hands but with Paton coming back I wonder if that'll be about the end of it? No more cute/choke turnovers when the game's on the line? Other than that I thought Hill did well in the 2nd half of the year to turn things around. He clearly worked his arse off and was open to trying everything that the club asked him to do. Even his competitive work improved a bit, although he's possibly the worst player I've ever seen when the ball is in the air - my little cousins used to put up more of a contest playing kick to kick.

By what has happened at the Gold Coast losing all there players no one wants to play there , unless you are from there.
Just look at all there top draft picks , anyone that was any good left.
We have football states like WA and SA with 2 teams and then you give Queensland and NSW 2 teams and they are Rugby states , they would of be better pouring the money into NT or Tassie who follow the sport.
Thats correct, and one of the main reasons promoted by the AFL to keep spending huge amounts of money on the GC for 12 years is that the juniors program is brilliant and membership is up etc etc. This has given rise to local product although very few players of note. A few for their academy are on the list. Nearly all of their best footballers past and present are not local. If they could have kept a team together of players who have left over the years then it would have been a very good side. It is a party lifestyle although if you were an AFL footballer surely you would be beyond that type of activity.

I don't necessarily think Dunstan, Ross and Billings are easy to replace. I think Dunstan will leave because of what he will be offered, and I think Billings in particular is getting the Goddard/Dal Santo treatment. Ross is in the leadership group and has 2 B&Fs (and in 2017 he unequivocally deserved it). If Ross leaves and Steele wins the B&F like we all think he will do, Steele will be the only player on the list with a B&F at St Kilda (Crouch and Hill have won B&Fs elsewhere).

I think necessary efforts should be made to retain Ross. I think the club has made their minds up about the other two for better or worse.

This is one of the most dramatic posts I’ve read, even by your lofty standards.

Winning a B+F at St kilda between 2011-19 isn't a mark of success and shouldn't hold weight
