Wouldn't awarding the World Cup to a country that doesn't have a homophobic culture send a better message?

The awarding of the tournament to Qatar can only be explained by massive corruption within FIFA. That has to be the main issue.

Russia is just as if not more Homophobic than Qatar under Putin. Do some research.

And FWIW, the world cup is for the world, it should be held in every continent of the world, aside from Europe and South/North America.

Theres plenty of far more suitable places in Asia to host a WC. Qatar has 50 degree temps in summer, not enough accommodation for fans, oppresive laws & and appalling human rights record to boot.

There is no positive aspect to the blatantly corrupt award of 2022 World Cup to Qatar which is clearly not a suitable host.

But the games will be held in fully air-conditioned stadiums 🤣

Well if heat wasn’t a factor why did they move it from June/July?

Fan comfort. While you can air condition a confined space like a stadium you can't air condition a whole outdoor fan zone. And the air conditioning in the stadium is mostly to keep players comfortable in the heat (you will notice all the vents are at pitch level). Temperatures in the stands would remain high. And thousands of fans partying together during the day in 45-50 degree heat is not a good idea.

The real shambolic aspect of it is FIFA accepted a bid based on the premise that Qatar could host the tournament safely in June/July which clearly was never ever going to be possible. They even promised at one stage to utilise artificial clouds for creation of shade.

Realise all that. I was responding to someone who laughed at your comment that high heat is a reason not to have given it to Qatar

thats one of many reasons it shouldnt be in qatar!

too hot for fans in june / july. but not too hot for the slaves who built the stadiums. qatar 22is a disgrace. i hope our fans display support for minorty groups at every game in large numbers and protest at slavery in large jumbers throughout the tournament.

Because they lied - and the process was corrupt so that their lies were overlooked. The bid was based on that the stadia could be air conned for a June'July tournament. After they won the bid it turned out the tournament was only feasible by holding it in Nov/Dec. Which totally f*cks up the regular football season.

Any player that has a deep run in the cups for his club, does well in the CL and goes most of the way in the world cup could be playing 75+ games next season.

And there's another AFCON in June 23 plus Asian Cup 23 in South Korea.

Say Spurs make the semis of the league and FA Cups plus make the quarters of the CL. Not unrealistic. South Korea make the quarters of the world cup and win Asian Cup 23 in June next year. That will see Son play over 80 games between August to June (assuming he stays fit). Even 70 + if he has a rest for earlier round cup matches.

That's madness. And the above scenario is not unrealistic in the slightest.

The other example much talked about was De Bruyne with City winning the quad and Belgium going all the way in Qatar. That would see De Bruyne playing up to 80 games just in the regular season.

This season's football calendar is going to be tough on players.

Agree with both of you. Problem with my original post was I failed to detect your sarcasm.

The only way to attend would be to purchase a package right ?

Seems like it would be around $7k AUD to attend 3 group stage matches over the course of a week.

Here’s SBS full schedule. The early games not great (8.30pm). Although our game against Tunisia is at 8pm.

Final is 1.30am aedt on Monday! Yuck!

Seems odd that there is two matches before the 'opening ceremony'/first match involving the host nation

Has been the case at the last few World Cups from memory
Russia played Saudi Arabia first match last time, and Brazil opened against Croatia in 14, South Africa vs Mexico in 10 and Germany vs Costa Rica in 06

Just have to respond at this point.

Now that's one of the best jokes I've read in a while.
