Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Pro
big difference
Demons were awesome on & off the field
Freo were a "wholesome" club on the rise
evils were into their second drug cheating phase and it was so out of hand, player health was secondary to ladder position
What I mean is that's why juddy stayed as long as he did. Until the issues you covered with the weagles and Bec prob no issue with moving.

Cerra on the other hand every intention to move home to be closer to family just like Jackson has

Cerra btw has now been subbed out with hamstring issues

We should be looking at Liam Ryan as a crumbing option.

Henry is not a major loss IMO. He’s just a fringe player in reality and nothing like Ed Langdon or Brad Hill.
Yeah he’s been decent enough recently but it’s from a low enough base. If we can get the dogs later first round pick in a trade of some sort and hold onto pick 21 too - it’s a massive win. I don’t think we will but if Bell can do so somehow it would compensate a bit for the Jackson trade debacle. Henry has a very questionable attitude, it’s a small thing but when I saw him running over to Walters to do some stupid handshandy celebration thing the other day after Walters kicked the goal when we were about 40 points down I thought to myself are you talking the piss mate?
We have been absolutely s**t in a home game against 14th placed side and you are running around trying to entertain the crowd with your nonsense celebration. As if we were 40 points ahead, not behind.
I'm annoyed about Liam leaving 'cos he's undercutting Freo's investment. But I watched that handshake with different eyes.

To me Sonny drove it equally. I interpreted it as keeping up spirits, effort etc. - and maybe emphasising connection with the team - at least from Sonny.

I’m in two minds about him.

He is actually the player we need.

His off field behaviour won’t have the protection of the Eagle network. Media will go after him.

He’d last two weeks at Freo.

West Coast and their buddies in the media have covered a lot of things up.

He’d be better off in Melbourne as long as he doesn’t do the same stuff again.

Having a go at Freo for selecting and losing Cerra. That’s a good one. He was a good selection at 5 (peeps argue should have selected Naughton but you can see the need for Cerra in the centre) and then losing him due to family and the pull to return home for pick 6 and F3. Pick 6 moved to 8 for Jye Amiss and F3 helped secure Jordan Clark. Same goes for Ed Langdon - he wanted to go home and part of that trade combined with part of the Brad Hill trade helped secure pick 8 for Serong ahead of a bid on Henry.

The club needs to be held accountable for losing Neale and then trying to turn that into a net positive by adding in a speculative/talented player with short term view in Hogan (that was after we already had a key forward in the same trade period - Lobb).

Also have a go at club for bringing in unnecessary depth players (like Matera, Corbett, Kersten, Conca etc.) whilst letting good b24/25 players go (via trade/Delistings).

We need to trade in a mature age KD as insurance for Pearce who is almost always injured and deteriorating rapidly as a player. Davies has shown small glimpses but is country miles away from AFL level and Draper hasn't shown much at all and is further away. Benning won't make it and Chapman is a third tall at best, so we're badly exposed in that part of the ground over the next 12 - 18 mths at the very least.

Does anyone know what the knock on Ethan Phillips is? He was talked up big time this time last year but went undrafted

It’s going to be very hard to move a KPD across the country on what is likely to be 2-3 year deal to essentially play WAFL until we get an injury. Anyone we’d give a longer deal to is probably an irresponsible use of the salary cap as we’d have to pay them best 22 money.

Best bet is to look at the state leagues and maybe delisted free agents imo. A lot of DFAs will probably take anything to stay in the system unless there’s a better offer available whilst mature aged draftees don’t have a say in who drafts them.

He’d be great in a team on the rise. Unfortunately his down hill skiing reflects
his persona.

Missing Cox and Chapman, hopefully they will be available next year.
But when the opposition are trouncing us in a quarter we need to
send Treacy down back.
Chapman needs to add some muscle to his frame, as do most of
the team.
No wonder we get bullied, physically we are off the pace.
Fix that and the attitude, belief will lift.

Absolutely should be. Pissed me off seeing Hawthorn are going to try and get him... He's exactly what we need and he's legit right up the road.

His off field shenanigan are an issue though.

A competent organisation would back itself in to get the best out. Let’s not forget all the off field shit Farmer did. He let his footy do the talking though and all the off field stuff is largely forgotten.

The difference isn't about which stories are forgotten, it's about which never get told in the first place.

I'm starting to come to the realisation that we will never win a flag.
Makes footy more appealing as we are s**t, and always will be s**t.
Bit like Norf, except they have flags
Bring in a better coach like we did after 2011 and the wins will come.

Serong, AB, Young, Amiss, Jaegar, Clark… the 🦄 for crying out loud!!!!! Talent is there. We just need a competent coaches box and style. Need someone to inspire.

We may never.

But it's been an incredible ride.

I actually think Sturt is the more vulnerable of the forwards. If we draft a player with the hintest of speed, similar size and some power Sturt is the one in the gun.

I like how his game is building and he makes us look a lot better when he is on the wing a bit, we need some kicking composure between the arcs to get those marks I rattle on about. He has that.

It would be a shame to lose him right as he blossoms into his next evolution of game.
