Mod notice after Mr Bob did a lot of annoying work in moving days of posts out of here. As we are heading into offseason, this thread is for 2023 list management only. Getting upset on previous trades can be taken to the vent thread. Lets keep this thread on track in the part of the year it's actually relevant

Sean Darcy is on 98 games.

Forget his importance to the side.

No way he should be traded on that alone.

If Fremantle can get St Kilda's first round pick for Henry because he said he wants to play in Melbourne so he can party with his friends and will accept a contract at whichever club will satisfy Fremantle in a trade then I'd be the crazy woman yelling at people at the ground when there is booing of him next year... but I don't think there would be, it's a public relations win.

The attitude towards him will flip with one interview and following through where his manager says his priority is getting a good deal for Freo so he can move to Melbourne.

The draft being unbelievably compromised and no one liking players past 50 is going to throw up some wacky trades
Yep, plus Dogs and Hawks needing points to match bids for Croft and McCabe means their picks 17 & 29 will be up for grabs along with GC picks 4 and 28 (potentially even 31 as well) and whatever they get for Hollands if he leaves.
The magic beans of picks in the 70s being worth something on the night could actually come into effect this year if GC trade in future picks to then retrade on the night

Getting a decent pick for Henry would REALLY open the door to that GC pick if we want it
I get the feeling we don’t want it.
My sense from listening to JL public comments recently is that he has just about zero interest in this years draft.
It’s almost like going to pick up new players in the draft is an irritant from our point of view.

I think that's reading a bit much into it. He's just been saying we'll have minimal turnover which is true regardless. We can have minimal turnover and have a top pick. If anything, minimal turnover indicates we want to get as high in the draft as possible.

I think we may want to hold the future pick to keep options open anyway just dont think whats been says indicates much

We should be indefatigably, indubitably and resolutely shooting for the stars in what we ask for Henry. Late teens absolutely realistic and on the cards (however unlikely for it to come to fruition). While obviously potential is the main feature, ceiling is huge, but his exposed form in the latter half of the year no small bikkies.

With his running patterns and work ethic he’s primed and ready to go and has the attributes to make a huge strategic impact on a side. As good as anyone with the one-touch pick-ups, highly effective in traffic, often sees the game in 4D and given time and space his repeated capacity to select the right channels to mainline into attack should have suitors fanging for it.

I'd still be hoping Melbourne is keen. They have the draft capital to splash around, especially around the key late teens-early 20's range. He'd fit in beautifully there...they have scope to cover any further development/adjustment with some established wings and is complimentary to their skillsets and his connection with Pickett gotta be a selling point too.

This is probably 1 of them situations where we're adding 2 and 2 and getting 5, but yeah the "list spot crunch" (to the extent that there is one) if anything adds credence to the idea that we'll go for the Gold Coast pick.

Tom Morris says we are pushing for a mid to late teens pick for Henry

Least we will want is late teens apparebtly

Current picks, which may change after finals:
Saints - 13
Melbourne - 15
North - 16
Dogs - 17
Collingwood - 18
Hawks - 29

I think it is clear why we will be posturing for mid/late teens. Might have to send 40 back the other way. If it is the Saints, 13 for Henry + 40 would value Henry at 25 in terms of points. Hawthorn is the worst case for us.

That's good. We're getting negotiations correct. Start high then settle for that pick in the 20s.

How? If he choose north or the hawks. He’s can almost walk for nothing if it’s gets to that point. A pick before 30 is a win
Henry is no ordinary want-away though. The history the club has with him, the well-above-standard contribution they've made to his career, supporting him through virtually a year of injury he brought into his initial year on top of that, should add to the sense of obligation to the club from Henry and Young.

Bell and Longmuir have both emphasised this line strongly. Hopefully, the fact there's no nominated club as yet would add to Young and Henry really trying to maximise the return for us (or maybe waiting for Melbourne to be done with finals). At the very least, for all his faults, Young seems to think that's what he does in these weaseling-out situations - orchestrate win-wins.

Assuming there's no other moving parts or players going the other way, I would have thought/hoped the ballpark is in the region of:

Norf: Henry and Pick 40 for Pick 16
Aints: Henry and Picks 21 and 52 for Picks 13 and 32
Hawks: Henry and Pick 52 for Pick 22
