I'm keen to see how Caminiti goes in the ruck

If he can show he can compete it goes a long way to solving that forward/2nd ruck we've been looking for

I'm confident his follow up work in there would be up to standard
When Hayes is fit he's a lock I believe

I agree- surely cordy is just keeping Hayes' seat warm for now.

Speaking of locks when fit- coffield is faaaaaaar too good to play at sandy when fit- not matter how well the team are performing.

He's not a mid, not a fwd (probably) not a wingman.

Without sincs or nas being moved, and with stocker currently undroppable- where does he play?

I know we've already had a few cracks but I can't see Ben King signing another contract at the Suns if they continue to struggle

Does he take Paton/jwebs spot? Push one of them to sub. And the other to sandy?

Gonna be tricky.

If Coff is going to get a game he needs to start backing his pace so he can be used more as a rebounding defender

Battle is playing a similar role to Coffield when he was playing his best footy in 2020

He's one of the fastest players on the list but rarely have we seen him back his pace.

I think NWM will eventually be moved up the ground again which will open a spot for him, but our run out of defence has been our 1 wood this year so he'll have to show a bit of that in the VFL when he eventually plays

Barrels was always a big fan of Ainsworth I remember that much, couldn't stop talking about his quality of character....

But it's a nah from me, not that great at ground level, a small marking forward and as was pointed out above Higgins is basically a better version of him. If we're gonna poach from the Suns might as well poach someone good.

Sam Flanders.

And they are going to need to cull their list as well as in pretty sure the AFL made allowances for extra spots, but believe that ends this year. He looked very off on Saturday night that's for sure.

I'm not sure I'd want to pay his wage. He's going to have Collingwood and Essendon types offering him obscene money. I think I'd rather develop Hammer and try to find an absolutely elite mid with that money. A bit of variation in sizes isn't a bad thing these days.

We will always struggle to bring in big name players to our club so it's not just as easy as saying we will just bring in an elite mid by offering money.

We've done that time and time again over the last 10 years and none have said yes.

The draft is the best way to find one and we've been able to bolster our midfield over the last two drafts with Phillipou, Owens and Windhager.

I was against chasing him last time because we had too many other holes on the list that needing filling but I'm confident in what we have now

Having the two Kings in our forward 50 would be a nightmare for opposition clubs.

Anderson.

We should get Noah Anderson.

Ross loves aerobic players
He must absolutely love this group, 12 can run under 10 minute 3k time trials, another 10 just outside 10 minutes.
One thing this group does is run, run quick and run for 4 quarters.

Agreed.

Really like Hammer and can't see having all three of them (King twins + Hammer) in the one forward line working. Better of targeting another elite small forward.

I tend to agree. We need quality to fill obvious gaps and two Kings are a marking nightmare, one up the ground one forward, or swapping.
However would be at least 2 FRDP's. We also need to consolidate the good drafting over the past couple of years.
Really he saved us from ourselves by signing another contract, we could get Phillipou, and have next years ( maybe it was Nas and Pou can't remember).
When we are still obviously building, can we afford his contract AND the high dp's it costs?

We've been as exciting as herpes in that time. At least we look like a club on the up this season. We could only buy players who wanted money before. If we can sustain performance under Lyon we will get players for the right reasons.

King hasn't played yet under Lyon but what Hammer offers is an extra defensive forward. If we can turn Max into a defensive weapon I'd feel more confident in paying it. We'd want to ruck Ben as well I reckon.

I'd rather chase Ned Moyle after that game. You'd get him cheap and he looks like a ready made young ruck.

If he was at a big Melbourne club he'd be getting talked about as a star already. He had 38 disposals 1.1 and 159 AF score against us on Saturday. I don't know what he'd cost but apart from a bit of an average disposal efficiency which would improve in better system and less of a kick first game he's about as good as any young player in footy at the moment.

Right now I don't think Ben has the same sort of ceiling as Max.

But for the sake of argument, let's say that these identical twins have identical games... I'm not convinced that you want two of them.

There's the obvious concern that having two guys of that size will make us vulnerable to counter attacks once the ball hits the ground. Now these guys aren't Hipwood and Daniher, they could probably make it work, but not to the extent that we would see with a Caminiti type in there instead.

If we have both of them though, Max will get fewer opportunities and will likely not reach his maximum output. I think having two of them there limits both of their potential to about 80% of what it could be if they were the main man up front.

Personally, I just don't see the draft picks (two first rounders at minimum) and salary demands are worth it.

We are in a good position long term, just keep hitting the draft. I dont see any huge areas of concern on our list so I'd rather we just draft the best available.

The big question in my mind is are we a two or three tall forward line?

For me, given the game style of high pressure and our running our opposition into the ground, I’m for two talls.

Something like….

Owans Membrey Gresh
Butler King Higgins

7th as a rotating mid - Steele, windy ect.

Unlucky for Hammer and Hayes.

What do people think?? Two or three?

But membrey isn't a tall. He's not even 190 cms. You can still play king, Hayes and caminetti and Membrey. As they can all rotate through the f50 and you the wings as well

I don't see the point in chasing another ruck that isn't a genuine threat forward. He's just he coming as a back up for Marshall.

No reason why Ben couldn't pinch hit in the ruck to give a chop out

Membrey plays like a key tall despite his height

His strength has always been in his marking, not his ground ball stuff

Yeah, I’m not sure I agree with you re Membrey. Been talked about on here a few times but I’m in the camp that he plays like a tall so he is one.

Non the less, question I come to is who comes out to fit in the extra tall?

Probably the extra mid, but our extra mid rotations have been helping us grind down opponents mids.

Melbourne play that two main talls and a third tall set up. When Brown and McDonald are firing it looks great but when they are off their whole game plan seems to break down. They seem very vulnerable to bad games from them.

Collingwood with a range of smaller talls seem to be very hard to cut off because they stretch everyone with their mosquito fleet.

Geelong with Hawkins as the big crash through packs and Cameron as a more rangy running forward who can play tall or small and Stengle seemed to be a very nice range of types withe few more defensive options as the extras and Rohan as that mid sized marking option.
