Zero chance of getting a first rounder back.

Lukosius on his own probably demands a top 10 pick, and Ballard is their first choice key defender.

Their first round picks this year will get burnt up with a bid on Leo Lombard.

It would make a lot of sense for them to get ahead of the bud to secure more top end talent.

Not sure Lukosius is worth of a top 10 pick. He doesn’t even have a best position at AFL level yet 6 years into his career.

Alternatively, his versatility strikes me as an attribute that Clarko would be pretty keen for, especially since his kicking is one of the best around, and he's an excellent runner.

Clarko seems to be going through a process of testing how many of our current players could become swiss army knife types.

I imagine your gameday tactical repertoire opens up a fair bit if you can have a couple like Lukosius, Blicavs, Mills or Baker on your list.

It not hard to imagine how he could fit into the broader plan if it ever looked like we were getting our s**t together.

Fair call. We could trade back for multiple picks and part with one of them.

He would be very handy for us.

Apparently Weagles are dragging their feet in giving Elliott Yeo a contract. Surely North gets in his ear, offers him a 2-year contract on big money and maybe a coaching role at the end of it. Great player when he's not injured, and even if he gets injured he can still drive some serious standards and leadership off-field.
I'd offer three years if triggers are met, and we're confident of his body holding up.

On SEN this morning there was talk about further assistance to North as raised by Luke Hodge, this was in the form of a further draft pick maybe toward the top end.

As clubs are already angry about constant draft assistance given to North, an alternative would be some extra salary cap allowances allowing for North Melbourne to entice experienced players over as well as absorb some heavy salary contracts from other clubs.

Examples can be

Jackson Macare (inside bull) Bulldogs might be looking to get his money off of the books in an arrangement that might see North only parting with a second-round pick since Macrae is out of favour at the dogs but still has a lot to offer as an inside bull to aid LDU, Wardlaw and the others. Assume the Bulldogs will use that extra salary space to retain Smith and English or offer Sanders something more.

Clayton Oliver (inside bull) this would be a harder trade, as would probably need to part with a pick maybe this year's 1st rounder with a pick coming back, or a second-round pick with a further first or second attached. Oliver's has declined over the past couple of years but may get back to his best, however, with Melbourne's midfield needing a top-up with young talent and a future star to hang their hat on maybe it would work out for both clubs. Considering this year the top-end draft options are young midfielders and we are stacked with talented under-20 midfielders. Like Macrae, Oliver offers an inside bull that the younger mids can trust and learn from.

Patrick Dangerfield (experienced midfielder) this would be more of a transition for Paddy out of Football, maybe allowing him to pass on knowledge and get into some coaching if he wants to. Hard to see him moving to North for a player-mentor role, but for the right money he might want to do a year or two to aid in the Kangaroo's journey as his final gift to Football. Scott Pendlebury also falls into this same boat here.

Adam Tomlinson (tall defender) this would more be a gap filler, as Tomilson struggles to get into the best 22 but still performs in the VFL and offers some depth and also maybe some more grit than Corr and Mcdonald. The extra salary cap would allow the extra depth in defenders while not impacting long-term on the ability to retain the younger players.

I'd be equally keen to get some assistance with the soft cap, to enable us to get another development coach, someone of the calibre of Mark Williams

Pendlebury - 36. Will retire 2024
Dangerfield - was 34 in early April. King of hamstrings
Tomlinson - 31 in August. Can't get a game
Mcrae - 30 in August ( see Tomlinson )
Oliver - 27 in July 🤣 Out Tarryn, In Clarry. Brilliant thinking.

See; Hall, Greenwood, Sheils, Walker et al.

No, no, no, no, no.

Love your thinking, you are right with your no no no no.
We should go to the draft and get some more 18-year-old midfielders because the 20-year-old midfielders will guide them?

Or should we be targeting some superstars? Maybe Matt Rowell? Nick Daicos? Tim English? Issac Heeney?

End of the day we are a developing and rebuilding team, we lack on-field leadership and we lack ready-to-go talent. Asking a player in their prime to leave their club and come to a rebuilding club is dreaming, maybe we can pull it off with some sweet talking but prying a 25-year-old who's club is probably closer to the Grand Final than us to leave their team will set us up like every year when we tried to get Martin, Kelly, De Goey, and Heeney in the past.

We have the talent, we just need to get competitive and also give the kids someone to look to on the field who isn't Corr or McDonald who hang their heads down.

Comparing Hall, Greenwood, Sheils, and Walker to Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Mcrae, and Clarry......not sure about that....

I think the assistance if we do end up getting some, will require some different approaches. More draft talent isn't going to cut it I think, as most of the teams we see now who successfully rebuilt had a paring of high-end draft talent and attracting experienced staff and players from other clubs.

Clarko needs another seasoned mind alongside him, as feels he is struggling to tailor game plans to this young troupe we have.

We also need some seasoned bodies and minds on the field to help the players read patterns and plays and guide them into the right positions.

We have already got our assistance for the 2024 draft. 3 end of 1st round picks that we traded for picks in last years draft.

Yeah, you are probably right, as I don't think any draft picks will be given to the Roos. However, without something changing on-field or off-field hard to see where we go.

If we can retain our talent such as what Carlton managed to do with Walsh, Cripps, De Koning, and Curnow through the dark times then we can pull it together. Fear is without a competitive turnaround or some hope put in front of the players then we will just be the feeding ground for other teams kicking bags against us and then luring away our talent.

Why not? The assistance package was for last year, if we are still this crap by the end of the year, then we need another assistance package or another version that doesn't just focus on draft selections.

It's actually in the AFL favour to use NMFC as a test case of modern team rebuilding from the ground up as we won't be last team to raze the list and perform a ground up rebuild.

l think after listening to that ,that l would go for Callan Ward. And if getting assistance from the AFL to get an experienced player like Ward then maybe a pick in the 6-10 range might do it...If we do get some help it must be to use on getting an experienced player from another club and not another young player..
