Autopsy 2025 Preliminary Final: Hawks get rolled

So did we. And we were miles more convincing too. They are completely fried…
Guess we'll see if that's the case or not in a few hours time. I went along to that Geel v Bris final and Cats did an absolute number on them. Cant see that changing, esp after last night, which is why i'm thinking Pies given they're more of an unknown. Anyway dont care who so long Geel lose!

Lesson everywhere - for players, coach and club. The question is how much is learnt.

Hopefully Sam learnt plenty. Scott did him over. No shame in that. Scott is currently the best coach in the game. He came in with clear plan to neutralise our advantages - clamped Newk, planned to concede the tap to Meek and made that ineffectual, hard tagged Weddle and stifled that run and then just went to town at the stoppages with Dangerfield and their bigger bodies; absorbed our best hits in the first half and then torched us with their superior run as the game wore on.

I feel the only real match up win we had was Gunston who looked dangerous all night. But otherwise Scott planned for everything and executed it. Mitch had no answers
Pretty spot on.

It's a bullshit call but they set the precedent with the Curtis suspension.

Our best chance is arguing that Butler contributed to the tackle, and that Chol didn't have a reasonable chance to adjust. Not expecting the AFL to show any common sense though.
Completely different, Stewart is already falling forward.

This is a public relations job, what are you and every other person going to talk about for the next 3-4 days?
By doing so, pushing the Tom Stewart, pre grand final bye discussion away from the back page.
Chol will get off, but all orchestrated to defelct from the AFL's stupidity and incompetence.

If Chol and his management had any power, I would sue the AFL for using him as a pawn.

3 things that hurt us again last night and i would really like to see us improve on next year:

1. Midfield obviously. Not just personnel, another A grader and Will Day back immediately improves it, but also general stoppage tactics and positioning. We need a better plan B when the other team is getting a run of clearances like a backup defensive set up to halt the avalanche of clearances that seem to happen against us at times against the better teams

2. No more stoppage goals please. Probably related to 1,, but we seem to leak so many more stoppage goals in our defensive 50 than other teams. Even happens to us against bad teams. im not sure whether this also being contributed to by positioning of our defenders as well as the midfield giving their opponents to too much space or not blocking properly in traffic.

3. Kick outs. We seem to go mainly left and long and rarely have any short options breaking through d50 or in different directions. This gets us locked down hard at times so we cant seem to get it moving easliy from kick ins like the other better sides

People always seem to get confused by the perspective with these calls. Just because from the angle of the vision you can see a gap between the ball and the line doesn't mean that it crossed it from an aerial perspective. the umpire was literally in the perfect position to make that call. I suspect that it was VERY tight and he erred on the side of a throw in.

Mate I get the point you are trying to make, it was close
But your red vertical line is at knee level
A vertical line at shoulder level would pass through his elbow

A week of hand wringing after the 'Rayner incident'. Page after page. Hot take after hot take. Outrage. Lawyers to AFL house. The umpire quietly dismissed. Foq Geelong and their strategic whinging. It all started with Steve Hocking and his micromanagement of umpiring. I hope they meet Brisbane next week and Rayner wins the Norm Smith

Pretty confident. The Pies are basically Hawthorn 2016 now. We've seen the signs...

Shout out to all the Hawk fans who attended the game. Proud to be a Hawk..
We were many and Loud...
Great atmosphere by all the fans..

We had the cats in the first half..
We had them on the ropes..
Umpire decisions swung the momentum in that second quarter...
The Gunston mark for one...clear mark without a doubt, horrible decision.
The Butler goal. Why was that goal disallowed. Ridiculous decision..
Could anyone shed some light, couldn't figure it out..
Throughout the game, you could see our players being held and blocked from running at the ball.
Weddle was continuously held by the arm...

We were cooked in the second half.
We had players literally couldn't run, yet we were still in it half way through the last quarter.
We were playing finals football since rd 22 in Adelaide.
We had to travel to Bribane, for the last round, Sydney and back to Adelaide...come preliminary final we were spent..
The cats were there for the taking...

We can name players who didn't perform...and there were a few...
Looking at the stats today, not good enough especially in finals...

What i will question is the coaching...
Throughout the year our midfield was thin... we have players in reserve who play half a decent game in the seniors and do not get a look in for the rest of year..
If we want to compete against Brisbane, Collingwood and Geelong, we need to bat deep in the middle...
Acquiring one player in Merret will not solve our clearance problems for the last 2 years...

Well, that's my armchair critique...
Otherwise, very proud of all our players and the Hawthorn football Club..

GO THE HAWKS

No it was very clear the umpires gave the cats the edge when they needed it multiple times, what about the Barass play on, resultednin geelong goal ? The umpire, Mr Magoo that clearly saw the ball marked over the boundary line?. All of these were easily the margin in the end and who knows if he would have won after that moment, probably yes. Watching the game tonight that game had none of those high bad calls it really leaves a bad taste in my mouth and it's happened multiple other games as well, we don't imagine this crap

Yes indeed, the Barass play on call....
Not to mention everytime "protected species" Dangerfield was breathed upon, automatic free kick...
Some of these umpires do not have a feel for the game...
They act as if they need to stamp their mark on the game, when they shouldn't be noticed at all...
Yet every game is a talking point on the decision or non decision by umpires...
It's a blight on our game..

The Barrass "play on" was flat out weird.

He never even moved, how the hell can you play on without moving???

Did the ump read Barrass's mind and pay a pre emptive play on?

Tbh I'm pretty much done with Cats v Hawks games. For all the media hype about the rivalry it is the most predictable game in football. We really need to turn the table on them and actually win an Easter Monday fixture for once…

I’ve had a shocking record at games v Geelong. Don’t really miss games against them, however besides the game against them in Geelong and Covid games, I’ve been to all bar 2. The 2 I missed were both wins (2022/2019).

Haven’t seen us beat them live since 2018. Cyril played that day. It’s getting tiring, so over hearing the shit trumpet as the siren goes every single time.

He is drawing a line a metre closer to the camera than where the ball actually is.

Has Chol been suspended for 3 weeks???
What a load of horseS*****,
It was a legitimate tackle...
Not even a free kick...
He got up and walked off the field without assistance...
Seriously, this is utter ******

The AFL has gone mad...
BullS****

Hawthorn football Club needs to challenge this decision...
