A good win but...

He only played 74% of game time, which is terrible for #1 ruckman, in comparision Cloke played 88%.

Cloke had as many possessions as Hille and only 4 fewer hitouts. Cloke is a hack and for the sheer fact that you are comparing the two on ANY level speaks volumes to me.

Hille only played 74% of the game and it was the first game this season Essendon had won the hitouts (statistically speaking), an indictment on Hille perhaps?

And for all of you who are wondering... yes, Essendon didn't win the ruck hitouts (statistically speaking) against the Kangaroos. Why's that you say? Because when the team's winning most people don't take notice of the weaknesses, it's human nature!

Cloke is alright, most of his good work comes from around the ground. I dont understand why you are complaining all the time anyway, its not like anyone is expecting essendon to be a contender this year.

That's awesome! What else he say?

What a gun! Kudos Ryder!

He said he enjoyed getting back the MCG and beating an old rival
Loved the challenge being placed on Fev in the last quarter, said he is up for any challenge, him and Fev were sledging each other a bit.
Then talked about becoming a ruckman.
Then said we didn't play to our game plan in the 3rd term, but knights was still thinking positive at 3 quarter time.
Said Judd is a legend and Kruzer will be a champ aswell.
Spoke about Lovetts big return
Finished with saying Knights is much more involved with the playing group as opposed to Sheeds

It was a good win tonight. Any win is a good win but once again our midfield was very poor tonight. Got beaten in the stoppages & our ruckmen tonight were beaten imo. Laycock was poor but Hille was alot better in the 2nd half.
\

need to get rid of Laycock inconsistent! should get some talented ruckmen~ go the Bombers! McVeigh very very good!:thumbsu:

Hmmm, maybe I do complain a lot. I live with a woman and I have to listen to her complaints all the time, perhaps subconsciously this is my vent! :D:D:D

I'm not expecting them to be a contender, that's what my head tells me, unfortunately the passion of loving the club gets to me and I just want to force the issue that we should be a team to be reckoned with always.

"get out of my head!"

Enough of this psycho-anylysing mumbo jumbo... GO DONS!!!

Fair enough
My philosophy is credit where credits due, when the boys win praise them when they lose we see where we are going wrong.

i think your all overlooking that essendons midfield kicked a lot of goals. mcveigh 4 goals etc...

sure fev kicked 8 but did they have any other avenue to goal?

the side that played as a team won the contest. two individuals (judd, fev) don't win matches.

Mate obviously there weer other avenues to goal as we kicked 21 goals, not 8.

Good win by the Dons, but in reality both clubs are going to struggle as far as finals go in the short term as long as both clubs fail to close down the oposition. You lost to another team by 99 last week that also smashed you in the clearances, Geelong clearly look after the ball better, and are stronger defensively, therefore they managed a big win as opposed to a heartbreaking loss that we managed to conjure up.

it was an entertaining game, but entertainment wont help either of our clubs against the better teams IMO. Anyway, enjoy your win guys, see you later in the season.

You want stats, look at the paper. Hille - 17 hitouts, 29% to advantage. Kreuzer - 12 hitouts, 0% to advantage.

Kreuzer, 16 posessions and 2 goals in his fist (yep, first game). Hille was very average last night. Rucking is not just about getting the hitouts, they also need to be able to find the footy almost as an extra mid.

Another thing, what good is winning 17 hitouts, with 29% of them ging to advantage, when you get smashed at the stoppages? The Dons winning the game had absolutely nothing to do with either Hille, or to a lesser extent Laycock, who I thought was very serviceable.

Safe to say we would of lost it if we didn't have them though:p

Mate, they only played on a first gamer (albeit a super talent), a kid playing his fifth game, and stopgap, who is playing the position purely because of the inexperience of our other rucks. So you could also say that it is safe to say that you may have won the game easier had your rucks been of the ilk of a Cox or Lade.

The thing is, our rucks from last night are going to get better, in the case of Kreuzer a hell of a lot better. Cant say the same about Hille unfortunately.

But then again we can say the same thing about Laycock, who is still very inexperienced in the rucking sense.

Gee, im glad you mentioned it twice. You see, ive been living under a rock for the past year, and I had no idea who this Kreuzer kid was, or that it was his first game :cool:

Just looking over the champion data stats for the week, Hille was the 3rd highest ranked ruckman of the round. He was the highest of our game, and he was better than Cox, Lade and McIntosh this week just to name a few. I'm not saying this is the be all and end all of all statistics, but its pretty good evidence of how damaging Hille actually is.

I can't really pass judgement on our ruckman as I didn't see the game(I got to watch Brisbane Sydney..Yay ) but from I was reading during the game, Hille was playing pretty well in the first half and when he had the injury scare in the 3rd quarter, Laycock stepped up. So I'm not really worried about our ruckman...

Hille was ordinary

You have no idea about football.

Care to explain these plainly incorrect comments?

No problem.

Though he presents well, he has consistently dropped marks and demonstrated poor decision making ability. Evidence of this is the length of time it takes him to dispose of the ball when he's forward of centre.

Regarding the defence being a shambles, the worst side for the past 4 years was able to convert 21 goals against us. Yes much of this can be attributed to our midfield however too many times cheap goals were kicked.

Our midfield was killed at the stoppages. We ran over them around the ground but at stoppages it is undeniable that we were thumped. Judd Betts, Stevens, Carrazo and Murphy all winning the points at stoppages.

Just on that bolded bit, I think it comes down to not having a true small defender. We have Nash and Rama playing as small defenders, but they are very attacking for defenders. I think Slattery has the ability to play this role well, but not since Mark Johnson of the early 2000's have we had a true small shut down type defender.

Was Mcveighs role after Johnsons and he was very good at it but much more valuable as a midfielder.

Good point you make there. Forgot about him, dunno how. But the point still remains that we need another small defender.
