Mentioned that he would've like to have Rankine there. Tried every possible trick to have his suspension reduce to 3 weeks so he would be playing tonight.

Sam Mitchell on the other hand never complained about Will Day been out, and with due respect to Rankine, Day is a better player and a more integral part to our team.

We had our best midfielder out too, it's a cop out to use that as an excuse. The reason our midfield is average is because we can't get Day fit and Newcombe has almost been going at it solo every week. He's had mates finally step up the last few weeks (Ward and Worpel) and we look much better for it. No reason Berry or Soligo couldn't do the same to support Dawson.

You have just proved my point which is that Adelaide were a false minor premier. They didn't finish top because they were the best side they finished top because their 2 A grade mids carried them similar to Sydney last year. When Gulden and Rankine weren't in the side the lesser players aren't good enough to step up. Hawthorn finished lower than they should have ability wise because they've had some of their players out of form or not performing to their potential. There's a reason I've been saying all year Adelaide weren't a flag threat, eventually you have to start winning as a team, not just because your stars are carrying you.

Doubtful Nicks would have coached differently with Rankine, he has stated that defence win Finals and gone to a slow game plan.

My point was more that Rankine in the team doesn't expose the lesser Adelaide midfielders as much. Adelaide were a false minor premier similar to Sydney last year. Going well when their elite players are playing well and taking the heat off the lesser skilled players. Lose one of those elite players and another gets more attention so his influence is lessened.

The 2 finals losses are nothing to do with Nicks and everything to do with Adelaide not being good enough to be a flag threat. This could change if players develop or Adelaide draft / trade well. I do agree that Nicks was outcoached by both Fly and Mitchell but the losses were more to do with both Collingwood and Hawthorn being better balanced teams and their coach and players taking advantage of that.

Crows panicked both finals didnt cope with finals pressure. I didnt think the hawks could play
so well against the crows after last weeks game with GWS, but they were ruthless. Mitchell
is a great coach to have a young team play so well already in finals, might win the flag!

He's just one player, though, they're still folding in finals even if he plays with the lack of finals experience and poor management. West Coast won a premiership in 2018 with a number of key All-Australians suspended/injured. I think even The Crows won a premiership in 1997 without key players like Ricciuto, Modra and some others key players I think were out.
