Rumour AFL 2nd trade period (soon)

It should only be for uncontracted guys (ie fringe players who their clubs werent offering deals to until list sizes were confirmed) as they were the ones most affected by the list sizes debacle. Everyone else already had their chance to move.
Kind of agree, but speaking for our club, fringe players like Dunstan and Webster might be elsewhere if the list sizes had been settled before trade week.

Part of me 100% Agee's with everything you have said. The other part thinks as a 1 off during these highly unprecedented times it isn't the worst idea as some teams may be left in the lurch because of the upcoming announcements.

What the AFL should have done is just wait until they have list sizes/salary cap and then started the trade period, even if it wasn't straight after the season.

Having the trade period with no confirmed salary cap was really poor by the AFL.

We’ll take Adams thanks Pies.
Pick 21 for Darcy Moore ok good job
62 gets us one of the Pies best players
We will take Grundy for pick 45 but Collingwood need to pay $500k per year for the next 6 years
Freo will take Quaynor and Mihocek for F4

ta

I don't mind this idea. I wonder if any big trades may happen. I could see Dodoro possibly trying to up his offer for Dunkley given how much Essendon desperately need a big bodied midfielder.
Nah, we can get Adams off Collingwood for pick 44 and get them to pay $300k of his wages for the next 5 years. Dunkley is so last week 😂

Blokes like Cedric Cox and Oscar McDonald would benefit. AFL not being able to confirm list sizes and cap has stuffed it up for some players. Having said that:
Ridiculous to consider having it for contracted guys like Josh Dunkley where offers were well and truly made.

My thoughts exactly. Narkle at our club is another example.

Should just be able to pick up these fringe players as DFA's.

No need for another trade period. The clubs had long enough.

DFA status is a great system for players that clubs don't want, but it doesn't solve the dilemma of guys like Luke Ball and Jack Martin.

By virtue of finishing last Adelaide can theoretically get any uncontracted player for nothing and the best kid in the draft. It's a double dip.

Somewhat offset by having to be the worst team in the league and the difficulty in getting an uncontracted player (particularly good ones that have options) to want to play for your club.

The pick that GWS wanted would’ve meant turning Crouch into Hately wouldn’t it?

Teams at the bottom should in theory have more cap space than teams at the top, so swings and roundabouts.

This is realistically for players like Narkle, Constable, Brodie, Dunstan and Webster who could have been impacted by list sizes and salary cap.

We all know the AFL media will be talking about Dunkley every hour though.

True, but I can't help thinking a big part of it is another hand for their media partners.

Never waste a crisis and all that. It allowed them to try the night grand final this year, this might be another one they can get through under the guise of 'special circumstances'.

Not many top players have moved from good teams to poor teams, despite the offer of huge bucks. Conversely, they have moved the other way or stayed.

When you are earning $800k, another $200k doesn't seem to be as important as a flag opportunity.

Martin (not to North)
Lynch
Grundy (not to Adel)
Neale

The average players have moved, but they don't generally have an immediate impact on the team's performance.

e.g.
Greenwood
Ellis
Martin
