We have never allowed third parties to have our code, despite what people say here, the AI from AFL Live one was made in conjunction with AFL assistant coaches and is significant IP.

Sidhe moved to making mobile games and so did a deal where the RC2 code was able to be used by WW for RC3.
Oh, that makes sense. I didn't know you guys maintained some intellectual property, I was thinking Tru Blu may have owned all of Live 1. And at first, I thought it may have been a technical reason Wicked Witch didn't use Live 1.

Not pre-release, but an early release, which most likely means we have a longer wait until any planned “day 1” patch. Had this been released as planned on the 23rd April, more than likely there would have been an auto-downloaded patch (like so many other games have), and many of these issues would have never been seen.

You have only assumed. They said a patch is still TBA with player rating and unknown fixes, no 'day 1 patch mentioned. Not every game gets a day one patch either.

Stop with the misinformation.

There was already a day one patch, started downloading as soon as I put the disk in.

FYI: PS4 patches are now released 24 hours after publisher submission, XBox One is up to 48 hours from submission.

Come on Ross do us the honours would you...after you put the disc in, allowed it to update and spent X amount of time, what would you grade the game? I promise I won’t run to Channel 9 with your response 🤭

As before, I'm not going to rate the game - there are independent reviews out there now from Metacritic rated reviewers Press Start "Into the woodwork", Stevivor "Improved, but doesn’t make the eight". I would say it is interesting to read the comments regarding "early release" for a game that's been delayed a couple of years - I might add the "early release" to our PR spin next time we're late on a game - well played :)

I'm answering where tagged/general information that maybe only Dev's know, or clearing up misinformation, trying to do nothing more than that.

Can anyone confirm this? I was only notified of the game install.

What, you don't believe me!? :)

If you go to the storage section you will see you are playing version 1.01

Ross what ever became of Gridiron champions? Somebody threw out Big Ants name about being a codeveloper?

I worked five years with 16 NFL teams doing real-time, game-time offensive game analysis to predict the next offensive play for defense, was really excited that we might have been to use that knowledge to make a game with those guys, but I think they fell short of their funding, we never reached an agreement on development.

The 2k devs are open with their process and often talk about how long they spend (time and money) on marginal or unimplemented concepts.

That you would spend 5 years is amazing commitment, for little return. Gamers are begging for a Madden competitor. Hopefully you guys are waiting for a spot in the market to open up.

How much of it can you go into? I was always interested to know what happened with the end of Big Ant's AFL gaming development and Wicked Witch complete take over. I think you said you couldn't get a deal done for a sequel, then in other interviews you mention the AFL have a budget sheet, looking for a profit instead of using the games as a marketing strategy. So I was under the assumption Tru Blu were lowering their budget substantially, presumably to pay for the AFL license and that was out of the question to continue development?

Apologies, should have been clearer - I worked for the actual NFL teams, I was contracted to do game analysis for them on game day - I worked for the coaches.

Step 1: Virtual Currency
Step 2: Profit

Getting tired of this contrived bullshit. Being in control of the game, then all of a sudden it switches and you may as well not even be playing. Can't mark, can't spoil, tackles are high or in the back, AI can goal from 60 out off one step. Then after a few minutes it changes again and they do random shit like kicking it out on the full under no pressure. Let the game be and if I'm winning comfortably I can up the difficulty.

Enjoying the rest of the game but finding that really frustrating. Sliders don't seem to affect this period.
Can’t say I’ve experienced this, sure I’ve had games where the ai comes from behind but I’m partly to blame for dropping off a little, even when the ai make a comeback like that, I don’t feel like I’m helpless to win, it actually feels quite realistic when a team is behind at 3/4 time and they lift in the 4th, I’ve gotta lift as well if I want to hold onto my lead

That's a discussion over a beer, and if you're ever at a Carlton game, I'm happy to have it :)

How about lacrosse ? (I’ve never really watched the sport but those games were good fun)

Also, would you ever consider more arcade sports titles ? (I’ve always been curious to see how AFL could translate into an NBA Jam or NFL tour type game)

Lol I'll try looking around the Big Ant sponsor sign for you at Princes Park. Could you say anything about when you got the chance to start developing an AFL game? How did that opportunity come about, since IR Gurus made them for years?

In terms of Arcade, we tried a little with BBL (BOOM) - big heads, etc. but it lacked depth. I think the market can only sustain one AFL game, arcade or otherwise.

You really have to have experts on the games to get that real, authentic feel to a sport. Lacrosse we knew little about, apart from liking it as spectators - the only reason we agreed to do the game was because of Carlo Sunseri, a mad keen Lacrosse player/coach/mentor based in Pittsburgh (which is where I spent a lot of time when working with the Steelers), without him we wouldn't have been able to do it justice.

IR Gurus changed name to Transmission and later went out of business - Craig who founded IR Gurus was a great guy, fun fact, IR Gurus stands for "industrial Relations Gurus", Craig was a lawyer in that space and just put the games through that company. Good name, better than Transmission for sure :)

Tru Blu recognised our passion for the game and sports pedigree, we did a deal to make the game, not much more to it than that.

Yeah, how's Princes Park, the home of AFLW looking in the game? :p
